EpicBattleCry – Show Notes

Greetings, Children of the Axe! Did you know that each week we receive a blistering horde of questions pertaining to our podcast, our website, and our personal hygiene? Normally, answering these questions would cut into our drinking time, but we’ve decided to bail on the ale just long enough to get you some answers.

So, uh, here ya go…

Q: Who writes EpicBattleCry? Is the show scripted or do you guys improvise everything?

A: EBC is recorded on-the-fly, completely off the cuff. The three of us have always had very dynamic conversations, particularly when it comes to gaming. One day, we decided to record ourselves and see what happened and that’s how EpicBattleCry was born.

Q: Are you together in the same room when you record?

A: No. We record the show as a double-ender, or triple-ender in our case, where the three of us are talking over Skype and we’re each recording ourselves on our own computer. The three tracks are then combined during editing.

Q: What sort of tasty beverages do you enjoy during the recording process?

A: Over the many episodes, we’ve consumed a host of liquid refreshment including but not limited to: Blue Moon, Fat Tire, Newcastle, Killian’s, Julius Echter, Wittekerke, Rogue’s Hazulnut, Guiness, Leinenkugel’s Red, Tanqueray and Tonic, Dan Akroyd Crystal Skull Vodka, and Green Tea.

Q: Why is the show so long/why is the show so short?

A: The running time is intended to be 30 mins. Some weeks we run long; some we run short. We think a running time of 30 mins strikes the best balance between being short enough that we can keep the energy level high while still giving us sufficient time to discuss the gaming topics of the day. Also, since the show transitioned to a video-podcast with Skirmish 019 there’s a lot more involved in the editing process and the 30 min run time keeps the post production process more manageable.

Q: Who edits the show?

A: Video & Audio editing duties fall to our resident production warlord Brent Adams. Brent’s background as a film maker and musician have given him plenty of experience cutting picture and sound.

Q: I love the pictures that pop up on-screen while you guys are talking. Where do you find all those insane images?

A: Daniel Kayser gets all the credit (or blame) for hunting down the eclectic photos that appear each week. Where does he find them? Some say they’re from his personal collection and that he has very poor taste in friends, others say he has access to a Google Image search page that was never intended for humanity to see.

Q: You guys misspelled a word…you suck.

A: Brent is a terrible speller and unfortunately Daniel, who servers as the unofficial Ombudsman of EBC, is just as bad. Even more bizarre, it appears the the two people most involved in the post-production process misspell the same words the same way. Science has not yet gotten back to us with a solution, until then we wait on out video editing software to implement spell-check.

Q: I love the music in EpicBattleCry, who is it and where can I find it?

A: The various bits of music in EBC all come from the seminal Swedish death metal band Entombed. The songs (in the order they occur in the show) and albums they appear on are: I for an Eye (Morning Star), Insanity’s Contagious (Uprising), Something out of Nothing (Uprising), Year One Now (Morning Star), Scottish Hell (Uprising), and Young and Dead (Inferno). During the older audio-only shows as well as some On Tap episodes we’ve also used Say it in Slugs (Uprising) and Amok (Serpent Saints). Links point to the iTunes Store.

Q: How do you come up with the topics you discuss each week?

A: Each week, before we record, we go over the gaming news stories from that week and find the topics that we feel most passionate about discussing. It could be a news item that has gamers everywhere talking or something we feel the gaming community needs to know about. Then, we throw together an outline with bullet points for each of our stories and its time to hit record.

Alright, that’s all for now, but stay tuned as we update this page with insanely unuseful information pertaining to the show, and always, if you’ve got a question of your own, feel free to leave a comment on the latest edition of EpicBattleCry. Cheers and THX FOR WATCHING!
