So yesterday I had the chance to sit down with SEGA’s Matthew Hickman to check out some new gameplay from the upcoming espionage RPG Alpha Protocol by Obsidian. The walkthrough, which you can check out in full right here, showcased the game’s blend of action and RPG elements while highlighting a few specific ways that you’ll be able to grow your character’s skill set based on how you want to play.
All in all, the game is looking pretty sweet. IMO, the level of success it enjoys will be directly tied to the game’s story and the player’s ability to care about and be immersed in Alpha Protocol’s characters and world.
Anyway, check out the walkthrough and let us know how you’re feeling about Alpha Protocol as we near the game’s launch here in the states on June 1, 2010.

Ah, speak of the devil…
The customization options definitely have my nerd senses tingling.
But the combat looks clunky as hell. I got a feeling its going to end up being like Mass Effect 1′s combat. Unfortunately for AP, it doesn’t appear to have a great story, fleshed out characters, or fully realized universe to pick up the slack, like ME1 did.
I’m hyped for Alpha Protocol. It’s looking to be awesome.
The screen this was filmed off of, is really badly adjusted though. Even so, you can still see that some of the textures and graphics aren’t yet polished (and hopefully not final). The release is still two, three months away though, right? Chances are this segment they were showing is based on an earlier build, at least that’s usually how demos are done.
Most of the things this showed I already knew – but I like that there’s no regen health. Regen health sucks.
From what I know – this game will require a few run throughs just to experience the different results. Just hoping they’re not superficial like in most games.
Wakingeverygod said it all. The crouching also to me seems bad. The gameplay offered in a Splinter Cell game is uncomparable to this one and the concession it made to make it a RPG make it irrelevant to me.
Also, it tries to borrow the ideas of Mass Effect, but is won’t be able to do it as well as Bioware did.
Watch the walkthrough and at the dialogue part, see if you’re able to choose in the time allowed the answer you would really want to give out. I just didn’t have the time to evaluate all 4 responses… There should be a cinematic concession to gameplay like in Mass Effect.
I’m tempted to watch it but I don’t want to spoil anything for myself. A good story and fleshed out characters are pretty much expected in this game, given that Chris Avellone is in charge. I can guarantee that the writing will be on the same level as ME, if not better.
Also, people at Obsidian (not Obsidian itself yet) have been responsible for the best RPG ever made. All the nay-sayers should really look into it.
