Zipper Interactive have been busy trying to add the finishing touches to its next game, MAG, but they recently took the time to reveal the game’s box art and some impressive stats from the beta.

First, the cover itself… become mesmerized with all the pretty explosions coming from every possible direction, that may or may not play in slow motion when you play the game, due to your faulty internet connection.

MAG_CoverSheet_BWS_FINAL

What do you think? Pretty explosive art, eh? Now, check out the sweet stats that came from the beta via the Official PlayStation blog.

  • More than 42,000 matches were played over the course of the full public beta (August 17 – December 5).
  • During October’s beta period alone nearly 534,000+ miles were traveled in-game by MAG players each week.
  • During the final month of the Beta 4 and 4.5 periods (November 9 – December 5):
    • Of the more than 65,000 players that logged on, 17,000 of them qualified for Squad Leader, 3500 people qualified for Platoon Leader, 1100 folks made it all the way to OIC, and 206 dedicated warriors made it all the way to the level 60 experience cap.
    • Nearly 18 million kills were made and an excess of 700 million shots were fired.
  • The Top 3 most played maps all belonged to the Sabotage mode. They were, in order, Syr Darya Uplink, Darien Network, and Copper Hills Relay.

Interesting.. There are no statistics on the amount of teabags or friendly fire kills.

MAG is slated to release in North America on January 26, 2010, exclusively on the PlayStation 3.

Sony wants you to celebrate the holidays at “home” this year in a big way and will be unlocking some surprises around PlayStation Home to not only bring holiday cheer but to give away some free stuff.

That’s right folks, not only are they hanging Christmas lights and decorating a tree in the Central Plaza but the Home community has a chance to get a free copy of Diner Dash!!!  Not quite what you had in mind? Well, you can also enjoy a ton of new content being released in the most festive of ways.

You can collect several free items to celebrate Chanukah, Christmas, or Kwanzaa. These items are available through the mall in Home.

Also available in the mall is a miner outfit that you can purchase to celebrate the announcement of Dead Space 2. Nice.

Fans of MotorStorm can also purchase a sweet new MotorSport:  Pacific Rift beach locale to call home and impress all your online home friends with. You can then purchase some MotorStorm themed furniture and items from the Furniture store to decorate your new place.

For those of you interested in a free copy of Diner Dash, the developers plan to host an event today for your chance to snag 1 of 50 copies. As pointed out by the US PlayStation Official Blog:

This Friday, December 11th, we will be throwing a scavenger hunt event to celebrate the release of Diner Dash. Those of you that log in between the hours of 12:00pm and 5:00pm PST (3:00pm and 8:00pm EST) will find segments of a voucher code scattered throughout PlayStation Home. The first 50 users that assemble and redeem the code will receive one free download of Diner Dash on the PlayStation Network. So if you’re reading this now, it’s time you get into PlayStation Home and start searching high and low. These codes are guaranteed to go fast!

Next week on home, PixelJunk also plans to reveal a new space for there new game PixelJunk Shooter so stay tuned for that.

DantesDivineEditionPS3
We’re getting fairly close to the release of EA’s Dante’s Inferno, and as a result, the game is making some headlines around the webz…GameTrailers has posted a video interview with Visceral Games in anticipation for the Dante’s Inferno demo release. In it, Jonathan Knight from Visceral Games and Executive Producer for Dante’s Inferno, fills us in on more of the game’s story and gameplay aspects. He goes into great detail on these subjects and also reveals a ton of cool clips from the game. It’s pretty insightful, so check out the video links below to get the full scoop.

As for the demo, Visceral Games is ready to let you open the gates of hell…on the PS3 at least…The “Gates of Hell” demo is now available via PSN and allows you to:

Discover an epic adventure based on the first part of Dante Alighieri’s masterpiece, “The Divine Comedy”. Playing as Dante, you must defeat Death and arm yourself with his scythe as you prepare to descend into the nine circles of Hell and rescue the soul of your beloved Beatrice from Lucifer himself.

Lovely. The demo is available today to play for Playstation 3 owners and will be available in two weeks for those of you that prefer to rock the Xbox 360. And speaking of PS3-exclusive goodness surrounding the game, today we get word of the newly revealed Divine Edition of Dante’s Infernro.

According to Kotaku:

The Divine Edition of Dante’s Inferno comes with developer commentaries, a Wayne Barlow digital art book, the game’s soundtrack, and a digital copy of the complete Longfellow translation of Dante Alighieri’s Inferno.

Even though it’s divine, it won’t cost you any extra dime…The Divine Edition will be the only copy you get if you buy it for PS3 for no additional price ($59.99). Pretty nice grab for PS3 owners looking to get the ultimate version of the game and a nice “screw you” to 360 owners out there…

“We are thrilled to offer an exclusive game pack for PlayStation 3 gamers,” said Jonathan Knight, Executive Producer for Dante’s Inferno. “The PlayStation platform has a long history of delivering AAA action/adventure games. Adding Dante’s Inferno to that rich catalogue is very exciting for the team. And with the demo now available on the PlayStation Network, players can finally get a taste of what awaits them in the full game on Feb 9th.”

As noted by Mr. Knight, you can get your hands on the hellacious Dante’s Inferno when it is released in North America on February 9th for both the 360 and PS3.

prince-of-persia-movie-thumb
It seems that it’s time once again for the movie industry to try and tackle another flick based on one of our beloved video game franchises. Next in the line up (awaiting a 2010 memorial weekend release date) is the onscreen movie representation of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

For those that don’t know, the movie is being developed by the same team that brought you Pirates of the Caribbean. Upon hearing that, one might think that it has loads of potential, but then the eerie reminder of the past video game movies come to mind and you’re left wondering if this will also be a disappointment.

Last week, Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films released the first official trailer for the film. After watching it you can tell that this film is being done by the Pirates of the Caribbean team as it closely resembles the same style of action and visuals. Some might even say that it is Pirates of the Caribbean but with sand instead of water.

The trailer is packed with epic moments and has me anticipating it’s release. However, how will you treat this film from just watching the trailer? Will the past movie disasters stop you from checking it out? Will Jake’s sweaty half naked body turn you off (or on…), or will this eye candy filled trailer lure you in?

Watch the trailer after the jump and decide for yourself, then let us know what you think below.

zelda-with-lyrics-eba
Fellow gamer Brent (better known as Brentalfloss), is famous for his ‘With Lyrics’ series, where he adds rather creative lyrics to the theme songs from video games. His most famous video thus far was his “Mega Man 2 with lyrics” video, but in his latest effort, he tackles the job of adding lyrics to one of the most beloved franchises of all time, The Legend of Zelda.

We all know the Legend of Zelda song by heart and most of us love humming the catchy tune from time to time…let’s face it, we all have probably made our own lyrics to the melody in the past.

So, check out his work on this ambitious project below and hit up his youtube page to see the other offerings. Who knows…You might even be singing his song in future Zelda games, instead of just humming along.
