1Up reports that Bethesda officially has “no plans” for another iteration of the Elder Scrolls franchise anytime soon. After finishing up with the success that was Fallout 3, you’d think that they’d be back to what they know, right? Wrong.
Bethesda game director Todd Howard revealed during his QuakeCon 2009 keynote that the respected RPG maker was working on its next big game but “not talking about it” at the moment. Of course, many probably envision a revitalized trip through the land of Tamriel, but unfortunately, those people would be mistaken, as Howard went on to squash all hopes of another sequel in the storied Elder Scrolls franchise by stating that there are “no current plans” for another game in the series…At least as of yet…
So, nobody outside of Bethesda knows exactly what Bethesda has up its sleeve, but it’s hard to imagine another Elder Scrolls title won’t come our way at SOME POINT. When/if we find out any more on the matter, we’ll let you know firsthand. Now, be sure to share your thoughts, comments, speculations in the comments section below.
UPDATE: We now have a response from Bethesda, and it pretty much makes the above worthless:) Which is a good thing. Check it out here.

Well, this was half-written by me…Edited quite a bit. For the better, of course.
Well – considering the direction the series was heading in I can’t honestly say I’m particularly sad by this announcement. I found Oblivion to be an utter disappointment.
I think somewhere out there a star just died, I feel that Bethesda is moving in a new direction and instead of fixing what was wrong in Oblivion and going a little more old school they are taking up new IP’s. Good to keep their games fresh (although not necessarily original), but what of us who love TES why must you abandon us Bethesda?
The die-hard fans will be outraged…again.
As much as i love the ES series, i cant say im disappointed. I am very happy with how they did fallout 3, and i believe they can do some great new stuff, instead of sticking with the same franchise.
No fear all you down hearted Bethie fans, a new Elderscrolls is in the plans as you read this. Pete Hines confirmed this today plus some possible MMO goodness to boot.
