Ms. Splosion Man coming to PC and Mobile Devices

Kiss your idle free time goodbye! Twisted Pixel in conjuncture with Iron Galaxy, Fire Hose and Panic Button studios will be releasing Ms. Splosion Man this summer on Steam, Games For Windows LIVE, Windows Phone 7, iPhone and iPad.

The PC version will include everything from the XBLA version including the devious ’2 Girls 1 Controller Mode’. The mobile versions will be something completely different yet familiar to their console counterparts with all new features, objectives and gameplay modes.

Microsoft Launches ‘My Xbox Live’ on Apple’s iOS Devices

In a move that will, no doubt, have many dusting off their best ‘Dogs and cats living together…’ Bill Murray impression, Microsoft, today, released My Xbox Live for Apple‘s iOS platform.

The app brings many features of Xbox Live to your iOS device. You can message with friends, tweak your Avatar’s appearance, check out Achievements, and get news and videos. Be aware when you install the App, you may get an error trying to sign in. If so, you probably just need to open the Xbox Live website and agree to the new TOS and try again.

Mirror’s Edge Free on iOS Today

Mirror’s Edge for iOS is free today on the App Store. The third-person-platforming spin-off title is available as a separate app for iPhone and iPad, so you’ll need to ‘purchase’ it on each, if you want it on both devices.

Superman – iOS Game by Chillingo

So, I just (as in 12 min ago) dropped 1$ on this iOS Superman game from Chillingo. I like the stripped-down style and the 2D animation is pretty good. I like that Supes is invulnerable and the ‘health meter’ is how much destruction Metropolis has taken.

Least favorite part is contextual super power button. I know its probably the only way to go for a touch-screen device but I think this kind of game could have worked well on a console. More buttons would allow for more depth and more fun scenarios.

As it stands now, the game decides the super-power for you depending on the scenario. If you’re near a burning building, its super-breath, if your close to a robber its a punch, if your farther away from the robber, its heat-vision. If I could choose to use super-breath I could freeze the robber in his tracks or hit the punch button to clap and extinguish the flames, etc.

So, its actually not that bad (based on my ten minutes of play), but it still feels like there’s unexploited potential. Will you be sorry you spent a buck? Probably not. Can you tell your friends, ‘They finally got a Superman game perfect?’ No.

But its totally worth it to actually have a pocket full of Kyrponite.

R.I.P GamePro

EBA Keith just pinged me with a reminder that as of noon today GamePro will be no more. In case you didn’t know, the once industry-dominating-mag and associated website that has managed to hold on all of these years is officially shutting down.

Here’s what the special message at the top of the official GamePro site reads at the moment:

“Thank you for your loyalty, support, and participation in the GamePro.com community. At noon on December 5, 2011, the U.S. version of GamePro online will shut down as an independent site. GamePro will become part of PCWorld.com (http://www.pcworld.com/gamepro) offering gaming news, reviews, and how-tos from the PCWorld team. Thank you to the entire GamePro staff for their hard work and dedication.”

Obviously, this is a sad day for anyone (like me) who valued GamePro at any point in their lives. I fondly remember getting each edition of the mag back in the day and even watching that amazingly goofy television show hosted by J.D Roth. Anyway, this is a great time to discuss your GamePro memories with your fellow gamers as we remember one of the longest-running and most influential brands in the industry.

Black Ops Zombies now on iOS Devices

It’s that time of year again: no, not the shopping part, the family traveling part! In due time you will be stuck for hours on end in a car, train, plane, or possibly even a boat with your family, and that can be rough. Fortunately, Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies released on the App Store this week, and for $6.99 you can grab yourself “a Zombies experience never experience never before seen on mobile platforms,” which should hopefully make this year’s travelling less painful…and dull.

Black Ops Zombies comes with “Kino der Toten,” the first Zombies level in the console iteration, as well as 50-levels of “Dead Ops Arcade.” Co-operative play can take place with up to three others, and you can even utilize the new voice chat feature.

Activision notes that, as with the prior Zombies iOS game, more content will arrive in the future.

VGA GOTY Nominees Announced

In addition to announcing that Mark Burnett, the producer of “Survivor,” “The Voice,” “The Apprentice,” the “63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards,” the “MTV Movie Awards” and the “People’s Choice Awards,” will serve as executive producer of the 2011 Video Game Awards, Spike TV today announced the nominees for two of the event’s most prestigious categories, Game of the Year and Most Anticipated Game, with a list of nominees in other categories to be revealed in the coming weeks.

They are as follows:

• Portal 2
• The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
• The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
• Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception

The Dark Meadow on Sale This Weekend, Update Details

Y’know that whole ‘digital distro is great because it connects players directly to developers’ thing? Well, Phosphor Games is making good on that with their ambitious new iOS title The Dark Meadow. We’ve got details on the first update to the game and, oh yeah, its on sale for $2.99 this weekend.

The devs have been pouring through all the feedback and they have the first update for the game underway; here’s the list of planned fixes and enhancements:

Optimizations for iPhone 4s
Lower creature spawn rate to allow for more exploration of the beautiful and haunting Montclair Hospital
Removed ‘Combat Summary Screen’ to improve pacing
Increased level cap from 40 to 50
Added ‘Save Slots’ under options for different play-throughs
Added ‘New Game +’ to start a new game at increased difficulty after completing a play-through
bug & crash fixes

Phosphor has also announced that The Dark Meadow will be on sale this weekend (through Oct 31st) for $2.99 on the iOS App Store. If you’ve been curious about this one, seems like now might be the perfect time to pick it up.
