WOW you guys missed a huge one on here and that is RTS lol not just MMOS and MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) games yeah they had starcraft on n64 and cnc on playstation but consoles plain suck for RTS and they dont even really have MOBA games so those should have been added with MMOS ps flight sims too though i know there not huge but cant forget to mention it.
at any rate though loved the show and I'm a life time pc gamer since zork lol and that beeing said till the wii the pc always lead inovation and the consoles have played catch up for example dreamcast had a 56k modem for quak 3 arena which they actually played with pc players thus starting the mouse and keyboard is better for fps, x box had lan for halo which lan partys on pc for starcraft and diablo where huge before so on and so on. Lets not forget that pc hardware is what drives the hardware that goes into consoles so you guys better hope pc gamming never dies lol or prepare for the worst gamming times ever lol

i think the prices will become close if not the same in the future lol when i bought my first packerd bell at wal-mart with a xsx cpu which is before the pentium 1 lol it cost 3 thousand dollars and only had 16mb of ram and 400mb hard drive now you can buy a pc for 500 dollars so in another 5 years i think they will be the same price or very close and i dont think price is what keeps it last you have to remember outside the US pc gamming kicks the shit out of consoles due to the fact there consoles do cost as much as pc's so in a global sense they are close to price lol

Are you sure you won't have to pay again when the final product is out? Also like Liyad says below this, we are not buying shares in a company. We are the consumers. We pay when there is something to pay for. On Luke's point, then art becomes what sells and if we truly believe games are something more, it should not be based upon the whims of the masses, but what the developer truly wants his game to be. Schafer is indeed an exception on the rule, but if this method would be some other company, don't think they will be making anything out of the ordenary. Just that which sells. That's the advantage of having the backing of a publisher. They are just one entity you need to court for money, while the gamers are a large group... And with large groups it tend to become the common demoninator, i.e. less artistic.

My interest went to zero the minute I read "fast paced". If anything a Multitonmech should not be that fast an agile. I like my mechs several storeys high with a movement rate like Godzilla in the old movies.
Aim, fire, obliterate! 8) Next! *g*

I actually agree with you. This is not supporting a non-profit. This is not gamers buying shares of a company.

And no, gamers don't have more choice to support games they want. They can already do that. By buying a finished product.

Hawken may look more realistic, but from gameplay it looks just as arcade style imo. It's also a FPS...but we don't honestly know that much about it. We're not sure if mechs will be fully customizable yet. I'm still excited for the Beta in December.

Reign of Thunder looks like an updated Mechassault. I played that game a lot on Xbox...it was fun but customization was pretty shallow.

Well, you're right Hawken looks boss. However, I think Day 1 is going for a different audience with ROT. Sure, we can have the realistic looking Hawken, but that doesn't mean we can't have an arcade-style mech game to go along with it. MechAssault never strived for realism, in all honesty. And if people were asking for a game from the MechAssault team, that's what Day 1 is delivering. Both are free-to-play, so it's not like you have to choose one over the other.

Go visit the kickstarter site, everything is explained there in detail. In short: no, anybody who contributed 15 dollars or more will get the final game for no extra charges. If you send more, you get additional bonuses, including dinner with the big wigs.

Am I missing something? I did pay money upfront and will NOT have to pay again for the final product. Yes, there's the risk of buying the game you don't even know what it will look like, but on the other hand you are helping to launch a title you might like, that wouldn't get made otherwise.

For me it works in this particular case, because I love so many of Tim Schafers games (Psychonauts, Day of the Tentacle and Monkey Fucking Island!!!).
