THQ has announced that those of you still on the fence about Vigil’s Darksiders will soon get the chance to try that bad boy out via a lengthy demo coming to both PSN and XBL on February 25.
The demo, which packs in 90-minutes of gameplay (WHOA!), contains the entire first dungeon encounter from the game known as the Twilight Cathedral. Described as both “engaging and challenging”, the level contains dozens of puzzles for players to solve, new pieces of equipment to discover and epic boss battles against the monstrous demon Jailer and the savage bat-winged Tiamat.
David Adams, General Manager of Vigil Games commented, “We are really pumped to be bringing a playable demo for Darksiders to Xbox 360 and PlayStation3. We really wanted to give gamers a true idea of the variety of gameplay that the game offers and so rather than just making a standard 20-minute demo version of the first few levels, we decided to give away this massive level and reveal the true essence of the game.”
The full game itself is of course already out for both PS3 and 360.

People had spoken good things about this game but not perfect in the matter. A demo of this size would be perfect to see the game running since I was skeptical to buy this past month. Maybe after the demo I could consider buying this and perhaps on wait for a pricedrop.
This is an awesome example of how to handle a demo: the product is out already and the people that KNEW they wanted it have gotten it already and this is there for the people that want to make sure that this is the game for them before the spend money on it. Pre-release demos at 20 or 30 minutes are acceptable because they give you a flavor of the game that can sate you until it comes out but post-release demos really need to push the interest level just because, after a month of being out, people just aren’t going to be that curious about it. Especially not if all they get is a Whitman’s Sampler instead of the full chocolate-box. Kudos to Vigil for making a worthwhile demo and I hope that other companies follow suit in this.
