BioWare’ s weekly updates leading up to the launch of its latest RPG Dragon Age: Origins are pretty much over seeing as the game has been released, but alas, it doesn’t mean the end of videos delivering insight into the project. Case in point, today’s new video showcasing the combat system in the game. Here’s how BioWare puts it:
The team at BioWare is quite pleased to have welcomed you into the world of Dragon Age: Origins! Grey Warden Initiation rites having been administered, we’re now revealing even more about the creation of this land which you now inhabit.
This video details the design of the combat system in the game – one that allows you to be both the wise Commander setting the strategy, as well as the leader of the battle charge. Lead Designer Mike Laidlaw also discusses the philosophy of making a combat scheme that accounts for all factors, including armor weight, field position and character attributes. Learn how movie lore influenced the game combat as Laidlaw outlines some of the key movie influences including Conan the Barbarian and 300 (key reveal: stunt actors from 300 were brought in to perform cool swings and death blow moves which were captured for in-game animations!). Lastly, the team gives their final thoughts on creating this epic, with a nod to future adventures to come in the world of Ferelden and beyond.
Check out the final behind the scenes video after the jump.
