Japanese newspaper Nikkei is reporting that Nintendo will introduce a new version of its DSi later this year that replaces the system’s existing 3.25″ screens with glorious 4″ screens for gamers to point their peepers at. The new system will replace the current DSi and will retain the ¥18,900 ($205.50) price tag. According to the article, the screen increase is made with older gamers in mind. That’s right. You won’t need your reading glasses to play Shin Megami Tensei anymore, grandpa. The article also states that the new DSi will be out in Japan sometime later this year, but plans for other countries have yet to be made.
For those of you that get Nikkei (and can read Japanese apparently), you might remember that they’ve made some pretty bold statements in the past as well, such as a DS system with music capabilities and a camera, as well as a Nintendo video service…Ah, those wacky Japanese and their accurate predictions…
We’ll keep you posted when/if more details emerge.
