Spears to the front and march! Its time for another edition of EpicBattleCry! This week, we check on the new Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition, run down details on the new Matt Hazard title, sneak deets of Modern Warfare 2‘s first map pack and lack of a pre-release demo, and ponder the new Xbox 360 holiday bundles headed our way.
With Super Street Fighter IV announced, and Fable II now available as piecemeal downloads, we take a look at the reality of digital distribution and work over the pros and cons of this emerging business model. So the long-promised ‘Rocktober’ is here and its time to start figuring out what we’re gonna score this month and what we’re gonna pass. With titles like Demon’s Souls, Tekken 6, DJ Hero, Forza 3, Borderlands, Brutal Legend and Uncharted 2 headed our way, its going to be an expensive four weeks.
The Battle Cry of the Week goes to all the righteous souls who didn’t buy a PSPgo, the Brutal Legend demo going public, Alpha Protocol (now being delayed to 2010) in the hopes the extra time will make the game extra awesome, and seeing more developer tools and custom mods making their way to consoles.
Remember to sound off below or post a video comment to our Youtube channel and each week will pick our favorite to become the next Member Battle Cry! Stay sharp.

My battlecry goes to the guys at from software for the game demon’s souls. The game is not only a really good rpg, it is a challenging game as well. Also the way the online is set up is just awesome, being able to see other players fade in and out of your game, the way you can summon dead players into your game to help you out in 3 player coop and when you die (and you will die, alot) you can invade other peoples games for some pvp. In a gen full of shooters and more games for the causal audience its good to see devs making games that are hard and you cant tone down the difficulty you just have to suck it up and keep trying
My battlecry goes to someone you, just love to make fund with or about on EBC… And that is Blizzard.
The onley company in the world, for what i know… That HAVEN*T fuck’t there community ones ^^ You get what you pay fore… Plus Life time of FREE Patches & support. Or til no one are playing any more. Well maby 1 or 5. But who cares
Blizzard are close to be, the onley company on the planet… That are keeping there PC community, as it is now… Sad, stupid, but also true ^^

It suck many times, beaing a PC Gamer O_o
Great show guys, i would like to express i am pumped for uncharted as well, but borderlands and brutal legend are getting just as much love, regardless of the fact that i have no idea how i will be capable of playing all three during this month.
Also i want to add i have no interest in modern warfare currently, so there being no pre release demo is sort of a bummer for me. The thing is i want it to be a great game, but the last two have really let me down, and this is coming from a guy who used to love IW for everything they did with COD 1 and 2. Also with activisions shenanigans recently i have just been really turned off from this game, and a demo could have swayed me to their favor.
great show as usual guys, i am very excited about the Q4 season finally upon us. most of those games i paid off in full months ago just cant wait to get them. way to go brent nice job putting daniel in his place after trying to trump your uncharted 2 suggestion.
my battlecry goes out to the movie studio, developer and publisher of Saw: The Video Game, WAY TO FREAKIN GO!! saturate the market with more bullshit instead of making great games…oh wait hey i didnt know we still lived in 2004 when that crappy movie was popular
quite sure SSFIV is going to sell at $40
Capcom have said that SSF4 won’t be a full-priced game, but the changes they did couldn’t be packed as a DLC because there was no way they could incorporate it with the way SF4 was coded. Or something like that. Still, fuck ‘em for not announcing it for the PC.
again why do people forget about rachet and clank?
Capcom already said that SSFIV wont have a full retail price, also it will feature about 8+ new characters (there’s even a rumored lacked list of characters) with all the balances change that that would require and is set a couple of years after the SFIV tournament, plus new stages and music along with a revamped Online interface, so I don’t see why this cant be on a disc? I mean, I sure I don’t want to download a 5GB patch and then have the info split between the HD of my PS3 and my SFIV disc who already installed a couple of GB on it.
Call me old fashioned if you want but I’m glad we are getting all this stuff as a non full retail disc instead of DLC.
Also, no more freaking INDESTRUCTIBLE!!!
Great show, as always, keep up the good work
How da fuck forgot to mention R&C??????
Otherwise nice show
My battlecry goes out aimed at those developers lacking a single fiber of originality, developers that rider on the coat tails of others past success. Not to name names (Treyarch) but it pisses me off that a company can produce[cut & paste] and have published a glitchy sub-par product and make money[tons] off of said product. these companies are the scum of the development world and are poisoning it with idea that mediocrity[in games] is all that should be required of their respective developers.
I challenge anyone to look at the horror that is COD: WAW and, while it may be fun, find a single original thought that wasn’t derived from an earlier next-gen title.
Thank You
Knew SSFIV was coming months before it was announced because Gamestop sold brand new copies SSIV(X360/PS3) for $20 for a few days(maybe one day?). I forgot the exact date, but that’s when I got my copy. But yeah. Predicted. And I just want to clarify along with the other comments, Capcom stated with the announcement of SSFIV that it would not be priced at full retail. I’m hoping it will $29.99, but that’s extremely wishful thinking.
My battle cry goes out to the king of puns Daniel Kaiser….. your up….. really man…your down and the Europe…bravo… you really are the king my friend, some may call you a pun-isher but you will always be the king, keep it up you guys rock!!!!!! m/
CHEERS!!! KEEP THE GOBLETS HIGH AND AND SWORD IN HAND AND I WILL SEE YOU IN VALLHAAAAAALLLAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!
You guys always make me laugh. Especially Daniel, bringing the misery with the puns. You know they’re real friends when they can detect what you’re up to right from the get-go. “Did you know that, uh, Billy Graham came out with his own line of, uh, snack foods?” “This isn’t the time, Daniel.” LOL And he still he had to get it in! m/
I think you forgot Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time on the release-list. The games I’ll be picking up this month are Ratchet, Brutal Legend, Tekken 6 and Borderlands.
I swear your podcasts just get better and better. Thanks guys for always making great viewing/listening for gamers.
My BC goes out to PC gamers once again getting F*d in the A. I’m talking ofcourse about the delay of modern warfare 2 for PC, Europe *sigh*. Basically they gave no reason for the delay whatsoever, no physX addition, no we-want-the-money-from-the-console-versions-first since it’s coming to the USA in time (for now), what the hell!?
For all the shit that the PC gamers have gone trough this year, a major release like this will surely affect on people’s attitude towards the PC scene. Stuff like this only encourages people to pirate games that they would have otherwise bought and that on the other hand will make the developers “delay” their PC releases or completely stop making games for PC because of the bad market and the cycle continues…
I hope that a digital distribution service like steam will provide a simultaneous release worldwide.
My battle cry of the week goes to Project Nat(at)al. Granted, it doesn’t seem to be as sophisticated motion control scheme as PS3 “sphere” or Wii Motion+, but it does have the advantage of not needing a specific controller for it to work and that got me wondering.
Natal doesn’t really require you to lose the basic cotroller, but can actually add it’s tracking abilities to game as an added feature, i.e. head tracking.
For example. What if Natal could be used to peek behind corners in Call of duty? How about checking your side views by slightly turning your head on Forza, or keeping track of the enemy plane on Ace Combat?
As an independent controller device, I think Natal is pretty much hit or miss at this point, but I can’t help but to feel excited to think how it could benefit basic gaming as an added bonus, especially games using first person view. If it can help to add to “being there” -sensation in games, I’m sold.
This one’s dedicated to all the posts and comments here and on the Gametrailers page: Man you guys are so naive. Not until the ACTUAL price has been posted by retailers will we know if SSF4 is full price or not. Just because Capcom told you it wouldn’t be doesn’t mean they can’t change their mind or come up with a lame explanation for full price before the Spring 2010 release. Capcom already doesn’t have the best reputation this year with all their shennanigans, so what makes you guys think that they aren’t capable of doing it again? Stop bashing something that you can’t prove yourselves without a concrete price from any retailer.
Keep it up, been a fan since the first time I heard the show.
My Battle Cry goes to the game Mass Effect 2. This game is going to be a great RPG and the way it uses your choices from the first to develop the story in the second is very innovative. This however makes me feel like I will be missing at least half the game. I like most people, do not have the extra time to replay the first one making different decisions and then replay the second, specially with the flood of new games coming this holiday season and beginning of next year.
I’ve had this question on my mind for awhile looking for other perspectives on it.
Thanks again
My Battle Cry goes to Slightly Mad Studios(and possibly Microsoft, read further) because they excluded the genre defining feature that belong in every arcade racing game – the split-screen.
I pre-ordered Need for Speed: Shift right after E3, with not much information except it looked really nice and I had no racing games to my beloved Xbox 360, yet. I checked up more information on xbox.com that still declares co-op 1-2 (though originally 1-2 players).
At first I swallowed my pride thinking that it was kind of foolish to me to not check up what’s the standard in racing games these days. Then I looked up some more “hardcore” racing games, like Forza 3 and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.
Both have split-screen support. I mean WTF?!
My battlecry goes to Steam and how they (and I guess publishers in general) treat Europeans. this has been talked about a lot, I hear you mention Europeans getting the short end of the stick every couple of weeks. Anyways, today I’m browsing the Codemasters forum, anticipating the release of Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising on Steam. News come out that the game is available in North America, and they even dropped the price from the original $50 to $40. Sounds great, right? Not quite. In the Eurozone it’s still priced at Fifty. Fifty what? Fifty dollars? No. Fifty Pound Sterling? No. Fifty god damn Euros. okay, I’m exaggerating. It’s not €50. It’s €48.99. Do you know how much that is? That’s $72US. I’ll let you figure out how many percent difference that is. It’s quite shocking. But you know what, it’s not fair to compare the EU market directly to the US market. Everything is priced differently. So lets compare against local retailers. €37. That’s what the Steam price has to compete with: €37 vs €48.99. That’s still a pretty hefty mark-up on the price, especially considering that there are less expenses involved for the Publisher (no printing disc and boxes and no shipping costs), so the profit per sold unit is much much higher than Retail.
My battle cry goes out to ignorant gamers who refuse to buy great games like Bioshock, Batman: Arkham Asylum, and Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, to name a few, just because they don’t feature an online component. It’s because of this that developers feel forced to add multiplayer for fear of poor sales, resulting nearly always in a game with two half-assed components. People with this mindset are a cancer in the gaming industry. -Great show as always!-
My Battlecry goes out to the folks at Lionhead Studios. It’s taken them about a year to do it, but they’ve released the demo from Fable II and hopefully set the standard the gaming industry will follow from here on out (with the exception of waiting a year AFTER your title has been released.) It seems the gaming industry has forgotten how to promote a product. Lionhead studios returns to the tried and true method of releasing a demo for free to the public so that fans and possible fans alike, can experience a good chunk of what a game has to offer before committing to a purchase. You’d think that with the advances in digital media, that these downloadable demos would be the norm. It’s more cost effective than putting out demo discs. I’d even be willing to shell out a couple of DLC points, so that if I don’t purchase the final product, they still get a few bucks out of it. I’d even be down for finding DLC codes in my (shameless endorsement removed) packages or with every trip I make to Pizza Hut. Yes, I dropped Pizza Hut’s name, because without them, I’d have never enjoyed a demo for Metal Gear Solid or Medievil. Thanks again Lionhead studios for doing things right. Thanks Guys…love the show…keep it up…(shameless asskissery removed)
My Battle Cry goes to the gaming press. I thnk critics are unwillingly holding back new types of games or any type of inovation in gaming.
I’ll elaborate, when a game tries something new, something never seen before, but somehow the game doesn’t come to the same level a Halo or an Uncharted.
The press do their job and tell people “this game is a 4/10, not worth your money”. Which is fine, nobody of the internet age is going to buy a game without reading atleast one review.
You risk ending up with a Superman64 on your hands.
The press has the power to influence us, gamers, I just imported Demon’s Souls (I’m from Europe, not out yet) because of Ign and Gametrailers’s opinions.
Why do they reward games that do nothing to push the industry foward ? GTA4, great game, but it’s just like GTA3, Vice City, San Andreas, etc with better graphics and a pain in the ass of a cousin.
Halo 3: ODST, every gaming site I go to, I see great scores, some of them 9/10. Yet I listen to a podcast or read an article and they all say “same old shit” or “not worth the full price tag”. Then why would you praise it?
At the end of the day, developers that play it safe get rewarded with reviews and sales. While the pioneers and inovaters of the industry are forgotten, left behind, ignored … eventually they’ll just say “fuck it” and we the gamers will be getting a clone of a clone of a clone, based on a clone, inspired by, guess what? …. a clone of some game that got a review of 9 or a 99% and sold over 8 million copies.
That’s my Battle Cry, not directed at you guys, you know at who this is directed.
Keep on rockin’ Gods of Thunder!
Hey Guys,
I have been playing games for 2o years and i live in germany. my Battlecry is more a Battleshout by the god thor. We europeans and especially we germans are getting f***ed by the gameing industry and the laws of our country. We pay 70 EUROS for a new PS3 or 360 game, but worse than that is our games have to be cut ,because of the german version of the PEGI, in a way that a lot of games are getting crippled. So we allways pay more for games and get less for our money. I work at gamestop in germany, boo me if you must but gamestop just plays a very little role in the german retail market, so i get a lot of feedback by my customers and most of them are angry because of priceing and the laws over here. The only way for us to get fully uncut games is ordering them via internet and then haveing to pay shipping which makes the games even more expensive. And we get the worst “special editions” if you even can call them that. Our special edition of Resi 5 was a steelbook case and a makeing of dvd and that was it.
My battlecry goes to Obsidian Entertainment, or to the modding community.
(I don’t know exactly to who should I thank, for fucks sake).Because they are finally going to finish the Star Wars Knights Of The Old Repulic 2 – The Sith Lords! with the new The Restored Content mod. The Sith Lords in some ways managed to overcome its predecessor, developed by Bioware. But,everyone knows how hugely this game sucked, cause it wasn’t finished. This mod gives back the original, full game contents, what hopefully will make the whole game experience way better, than the original ever was.
Of course it’s not out already, but I can’t wait to re-install the game to my old, completely hopeless PC, cause let me be honest, PC games sucks a BIG time. Perhaps the only refreshing to the platform will be Starcraft 2 or the fucking Old Republic! But that’s for another topic.
My battlecry goes to Naughty Dogg, with Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune they made an awsome game and within one week Uncharted 2: Among thieves comes out. I have played both the closed and the open beta and I loved them, It’s very addictive and dude…its only the fucking MultiPlayer, we all know how the singelplayer is going to make us go wild like fu*king monkeys!?! I think Naughty Dogg is one of the best Developer out there and Uncharted 2 is for me already the game of the year! And I dont care about other ppls opinions, well exctually I do, because they probably all think the same as me about this one;) anyway Triple A title right here!
OEEEhaAA!!
[...] that is, at the very least, intriguing. The tried and true trio of talk show hosts brought it up on this week’s episode of EBC during a conversation relating to the state of digital distribution. It was offered up for [...]
My Battlecry goes out to Warhammer 40000,
The most awesome space fantasy-franchise ever made of pure man-sauce! I remember seeing the God of War-esque game, WH40K: Space Marine, that is going to be made, and it looked grand beyond measures. And with Chaos being added to game next , DoW2 is only getting better, and with an upcoming Ultramarines Movie it looks like the Spess mehreens can reach out to more of the masses!
FOR THE EMPEROR!
Where have you heard about an upcoming W40K movie?
My Battlecry goes out to Infinity Ward, for making Modern Warfare 1 and 2 and giving Activision the finger!
Hell Yes To Infinity Ward, and fuck Activision!
Im so Fuckng Glad that they made a game not set in WW2.
and i hope Infinity Ward jumps off the Activision ship that holds them back, and finds a new haven! Like Sony!
Good Show and Keep em` Coming!
I wouldn’t mind seeing GameStop close down… lol.
Every time I watch shows that mention buying games from a physical store, I always wonder: who the crap actually does that anymore?
I’ve been to GameStop, the prices are absurd. If you go on Amazon or any other online shop, prices on average are $10 to $20 cheaper. What kind of naive person goes to stores anymore?
