UPDATE: If you’ve watched the episode already and wanna get our response to the PS3 region lock thingy-ma-bob, please take a second to check out this post on EpicBattleAxe.com. Thx!
Prepare the second wave and loose the beserkers, its time for another edition of EpicBattleCry! In this week’s Skirmish we try not laugh as Splinter Cell: Conviction is delayed again, contemplate non-HD streaming from Netflix on the Wii, revel around the rumor of a Tecmo Super Bowl remake, make the most of the news that Star Wars: The Old Republic is looking at a spring 2011 release window, and discuss the news that a new Zelda is on the way.
With our skepticism, facetiousness, and loathing of Project Natal firmly on the record we change gears this week. Since Microsoft has, thus far, failed to demonstrate how Natal could be not only workable, but even desirable as a controller for traditional games, we discuss some uses suggested by several forum members that may actually have merit for gamers.
Then, we take a look at some recent EBA Poll results and find out what gamers think about the recently released Army of Two: The 40th Day as well as the news that Splinter Cell: Conviction has been delayed once more.
The Battle Cry of the Week goes to the gang at ScrewAttack for their excellent parody of the Natal documentary screened at CES 2010, Out of this World and other under-the-radar classics, SCEE for region locking Demon’s Souls and refusing to sell it in all territories.
Remember to sound off below and each week will pick our favorite to become the next Member Battle Cry! Stay sharp.

sweet it’s up. Thanks for doing a kick ass show guy’s
yeahhhhh
i nearly jumped when i saw EBC 60!! this is what i wait all week for guys!!
tks for another episode
edit: 360 tatoo!!! aahahaha
my battlecry goes out the the weak-minded players that complain when a game doesn’t have multiplayer. Bioshock and Deadspace are two games that very good single player games that had very good atmospheric environments that can only be believed through the player’s feeling alone. Now these experiences are at risk due to developers spending more time on multiplayer. It happened to COD and it will happen again. Gamers should stop asking for multiplayer they won’t play cause every night ppl play MW2 or Uncharted2. Whats next Silent Hill prestige 8.
I absolutely love EBC and follow you since quite a while. However, this time you made “a little” mistake in the end
The PS3 is, in general, regionfree. Each game can be imported from anywhere, wether it’s from Asia, America or Europe and then be played on any system (there might be some exclusions that are regionlocked, but that is absolutely not the predominant case!). I for example live in Germany and imported Demon’s Souls directly after its release in NA and since then have a blast playing it.
However, this does apply to PS3 only! The 360 is regionlocked, so American games can only be played on American consoles – and I agree, this sucks.
ummm cant you just import demons souls?? im pretty sure all ps3 games are region free
you guys know that sonys motion controls are so much better then natal right? right?
The PS3 is region free for the most part, so you can import Demon’s Souls and play it on a European Playstation if you want. If you want to play online however you have to make a USA PSN account. Thats real easy as well.
im pretty sure ps3 is region free, seeing as im now gonna play my imported Demons souls on my non modified ps3 here in Norway – Europe ;P seems kinda silly to put those two battle cries next to eachother when the game’s ps3 exclusive and everybody CAN play it if they want. a ps3 game for me here costs 600 NOK (100 USD), importing the same game from the states is about 500 NOK. you should really clear that up for the confused European gamers who didnt know or was unsure if they would ever play Demons souls.
seeings as how you pretty much told them they cant. other than that, awesome skirmish as always
The PS3 is region free as far as games are concerned so if your in the uk you can import demon’s soul
natal feedback
given the movie and game industry use millions of dollars worth of equipment to accuratly motion track people into there games, using special camera’s and affixing guys with a few hundred balls
http://www.cybercollege.com/pix/actiontrack.jpg
how do microsoft plan to accuratly capture body movement with there proposed tech, when the wii controller an actual device is not accurate at all.
there is a similar cut down tech that was released on pc for flight sim and car sim buffs its called trackir which basically tracks a few balls mounted on a cap
http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/
, which is fairly accurate, and given the ps3 utilizes this method for there wand i presumme the playstation one will be more accurate.
my whole point is natal will not be nothing like there gimmick campaign ads and any one who knows better knows the wii device and its recent addon are far from accurate.
microsoft have no chance in hell in accuratly replicating those promo ads in real life and we will see what will become of the webcam with gimmick written all over it.
the key thing here is accuracy and how it will be implemented into games, flapping my arms around is something i am not keen on, the ps3 and trackir solutions are more bespoke and tailored for a certain way of play.
trackir- tracking head movement in game, looking around in cockpits of planes, looking around in cars.
the ps3 showcase of there wand is tailored to a certain play style.
natal has no speciality if it does what they proclaim to be and accuratly then good for them but i think its just media hype
“a family of 4 on a sofa a girl moving her arms in a circular motion while her tiny feeet operate make beleive pedals while her family sit beside her and it tracks only her moveent until her dipshit father gets up to replace a tire lol what a crock of shit”
and what kind of bespoke games will they come up with, hitting balls away with your arms and legs ,
all the videos i have seen with actors and staff have there arms and legs kicking hoping for somesort of effect in the game.
natal is a gimmick and is not tailor made for a certain style of play.
You are right to a certain extend. As I also allready mentioned the PS3 is regionfree allowing everybody to experience the joy of Demon’s Souls
However, you do NOT have to create an American PSN-Account to play online. It works just as well with any european or “wherever else based” account.
Wait wait… what region lock? there hasn’t been any on the ps3 (expect a hand full)
My Battle Cry has to do with the common practice of games being delayed when they are already finished. As mentioned in the last EBC companies state that they are simply making the game “perfect” yet instead of delaying the game, why not release a complete game, and add on dlc afterwards. However instead of trying to milk profits out of DLC, why not be strategic with it. Release a game sooner, where the market is a little dry, and add on features for free that simply enhance the experience, such as extra game modes, new weapons, etc etc. That way the developers and publishers can make a profit and the gamers can have a game that evolves through the following months.
Complete and utter awesomeness.
I have some cool ideas for Natal I can brain storm and send your way.
Thanks for the awesome start to my week.
Stay heavy.

my battlecry goes out to sony
i must say i was once a very skeptical gamer when it came to motion controls especially seeing just how useless natal really is but sony on the other hand have created a very practical more advanced wii remote which not only tracks fully in 3d space but also uses a camera to capture yourself or scan images into the game your playing.
we have all seen how sonys tech can be applied and this year they will be releasing a psn title called “under siege” (RTS) which fully utilizes the motion controls and gamepad both are optional, esentially i would love to see more pc orientated gameplay brought to console, the wii has tried a few things but their audience is completely different from sonys and microsofts please bring some RTS MMO DIABLOesque style gameplay to console i know it can happen
ps im tired of upgrading my pc and i dont feel like sitting infront of a computer for hours the lazy boy feels so much better
Great show once again.
Hey Daniel, Mass Effect 2 comes next week
Tony… Seriously… That nail… Consider it hit… Right on the head.
I am totally fed up of having the next installment of “MyFavouriteGamingIP” announced before the one that’s in development is even released! And it just get’s worse when it happens with new IPs…
Cases in point;
- Of course I knew they were going to make another Zelda, I mean, why wouldn’t they? They have a core fanbase that will most likely enjoy the game or at least pick it up to check it’s still good fun and worth playing… No need to announce that you have no news at all then leave people waiting with nothing.
- I am alive… Oh dear… media blackout on this one since an intriguing trailer was released at E3… TWO THOUSAND AND EIGHT… and no official word on pretty much anything since then. Seriously, the forums are a joke, people have been scrabbling around to get any last scrap of information on this. No release date, no in game footage, nothing. Just a trailer. And a forum. WHY DID THEY BOTHER?
Show me something, when you’ve got something to show me, don’t just tap my shoulder then run away.
p.s. awesome show as usual guys
hey brent the game you were talking about right in the beginning i remember a game like that did the main character go through a lobotomy? and climbs out the window to escape to find some truth to his past or something i totally forget the name
might not be the right game lol but maybe someone might remember that
Great episode. I’m pretty sure the ps3 is region free though. Ive been considering importing demons souls and im probably gonna do it
screw this motion controller crap. unless we get virtual reality where i’m standing in the halo universe with a BR and running and diving and using my own movements to play the game. until then (which we are not close to btw) this motion controller stuff is just not worth it.
dk talks about the excitment for voice control in rainbow six vegas 2, did he ever play SOCOM? that had voice control way back when.
i think taking baby steps to something bigger is essential and what if sonys controls take shooters, puzzlers, mmos , rts all the good genres that take some real precision and bring them to the console why is that a bad thing? there are a lot of games that do not work well on consoles.
look at a game like dragon age it would have worked much better with some precision control just like the pc has, think of how much better they can make existing genres but still holding onto the gamepad for games like god of war or fable i think just having the option is the right direction
Yeah i was gonna say i live in Aus and every time they censor a game on the Ps3 (of which has been quite a few) I just get it from overseas. Got Silent Hill from Canada. Now, to all those who complain about delays, look at Darksiders. Looked pretty fuckin complete when i saw it at the start, of 2008, thats right FEB of 2008. But to see it now….And look at Borderlands. Coulda been just another game, instead it’s the fastest selling new IP or… something (who cares its just fucking awesome which is the point). I gotta admit, if SC and SWOTOR were out now, and looking like they did in those videos in this episode I’d buy em and be happy, but for the same price a year later but a much better game, well, Im willing to wait.
My EBC goes to TONY- you say if u can’t get a game in your country you should pirate it, and I agree whole heartedly. What if the game has been censored? Because i make a habit of getting games that Aus bans in all their glory. I could still buy the games, they are available and if its a PS3 game and i can get it overseas I’ll buy it but I’m mostly a PC gamer. Trying to get L4d2 and games like Postal is a pain in the ass. Amazon.com won’t mail games to Aus and there’s no assurance a game from Ebay will work when i buy it, especially online. And you can’t trade in a PC game. I personally am not a fan of piracy, I try hard to support companies that make great games, but our government gives me little choice.
Now Im heading over to GOG to see if they have Out of this world! That game was awesome and the sequel was just as good!
My battle cry goes to the third party developers for Natal, to make some not shit games. When I saw the announcement video for Natal, I thought it would be excellent if all of those ideas were implemented properly, but we all know Microsoft is going to fuck the pooch until it cries, so it’s up to the third party developers to make good games for it.
I would love to see games that you could use real items for. For example, If you played a real sport, it would be awesome to use your baseball bat, golf clubs, hockey stick, or whatever, instead of a useless hunk of plastic forged with the finest child labor china has to offer that I have to buy extra for 10-20-60 dollars. Or, for it to scan in my face, clothes, possessions, voice and nuances to be used in an game. This way, you could have controls that the Wii is supposed to have, except they would possibly work. And we know that the technology is there, because the Vision camera has quietly been on sale for years, and has done most of these things already.
In short, Use natal, don’t abuse it like a red headed step child. (I’m looking at you, Nintendo)
great episode had fun listening.
but what did you guy’s smoke lol?!?!
the ps3 is region free…
i live in europe and i’m playing demon souls every now and than
anyways keep up the good shows
As always, great show! But the PS3 is region free. I have a Euro PS3 and Demon Souls from Canada works perfectly!
The PS3 is not region free, the games are; but ultimately that doesn’t make a bit of difference in the matter at hand. You can buy a game from the US and it will play in your EU PS3, the same can’t be said about movies. Mind you the DLC for the games must be from the correct region/psn store else it will not work.
As stated by other members the PS3 is region free gaming, so he can import it and play it. Second Demon’s Soul is not a Sony game, it is by From Software, and we got it in the US because of Atlus. Talon should go write this complaint to all Localizing company for his area to get them to pull it for them, otherwise import it from the US
Here in Finland gamestores are actually selling US version of Demon’s Souls thanks to some really nice importer.
for the member battle cry of the week
you can get the asian version of the game, it’s completely in english.
btw most of the ps3 games are region free
great skirmish!!!
cheers
I’ve registered just for this show (coming from GT) and I found a lot more great stuff then I could imagine, I cannot NOT love you guys, thanks for all the hard work and “warm” lawl approach to us fans!
Keep it up!!
ok… about the usefulness and potential of motion controls like the Wii and natal (nobody mentions sony’s controller for “some” reason…). The only thing they should do is understand two gaming markets:
1. the casual market. Let’s face it, every motion controller available is there for the player to make a fool out of him/herself, and this can be huge fun: get drunk or get kids, and play some Wii sports or something like that. The people in this category play simple games that are mostly oriented toward all the family, and they play for short periods of time. Now imagine GoW with motion controls- would you play it all night ? NO!!! which brings me to…
2. The “hard-core” gamers’ market. These players are interested in gameplay, or story or something more than just flailing your arms around and making a fool out of yourself. These games are about the game, about being in a game, and not about playing a game (like knowing you’re near your couch or with friends).
If nintendo and Mirosoft would understand those two rudimentary markets, they’d understand that motion controls are viable for the casual market and are absolutely useless and even damaging to the hard-core market. let’s explore some of the things that were said in this podcast:
1. Comparing motion controls to voice controls. Voice controls have a distinct advantage over motion controls and merge with the “classic” controls (i.e. having a controller in your hands) because of one simple thing: YOU DON’T HAVE TO TAKE YOUR HANDS OFF THE CONTROLLER !!!!! now think of playing a game and having to put down the controller to make some obscure gesture (that’s assuming that natal recognizes the gesture the first time) and then picking up the controller again. The hard-core games tend to focus on the player’s ability to input commands rapidly and accurately, and introducing motion controls would be the same as introducing broken glass to a cake.
2. Utilizing motion controls to RTS (and maybe other) genres. That is a really cool idea, but at the current state of technology, completely unfeasible. Let’s recap Microsoft’s presentation of natal- did you notice how natal gathers information, how it only distinguishes BASIC HUMANOID SHAPES FROM THE BACKGROUND? So in it’s current state it is unable to recognize more acute motions like finger gestures to make natal of any use in the forementioned genres.
I won’t even go into detail over the notion of “more immersive gaming experience”, because it’s just a pile of putrid camel shit (Wii cycling with using your hands ?!?!?! driving a race car with natal without ANY physical feedback?!?!?!). Motion controls are a gimmick, a sales tactic that is of very little benefit to the gamer (and of no benefit to the hard-core gamer).
But here’s the real trouble with motion controls. THEY’RE HARD TO PROGRAM !!! More than half the Wii games don’t recognize half the inputs made by the player. The best utilization of controls on the Wii comes from Nintendo’s own games (with few exceptions). So in order for Microsoft to get enough money from natal, they’d have to back it up with a hefty catalogue of games that showcase all of natal’s capabilities. And one more thing: Wii’s games look like shit (old shit to be exact), and that was a deliberate move on Nintendo’s part to cut game development time, so the developers wouldn’t “waste” time on new graphics or AI or other tech, but to balance the controls. And still the games have horrid controls. Now take Xbox or PS3 games, that already require a lot of development time and resources to be a viable competitor in an already vast market. You think companies will try to forward gaming technology while trying to polish motion controls? Classic controllers are WAY easier.
So in my opinion, the only way to improve on the motion control technology, is to punch the people who propose the use of it straight in the face. The tech itself isn’t ready yet. It’s as simple as that. Don’t try to cram it up our throats, you cheap assholes !
Ouch, both Tony and the member missed a little with those battle cries.
- All PS3 games are region free. Not only can Europeans import Demon’s Souls, but it’s also actually often cheaper to import games to buy in Europe (because of taxes, each country handles import taxes a bit differently so I don’t know what the case is in UK).
- There is no way to play pirated games on the PS3. It’s the only current gaming system that can claim this.
- There are a lot of good RPGs coming soon to the PS3. White Knight Chronicles (which looks excellent), Star Ocean 4 Int. Edition and Yakuza 3, to name a few exclusives, and Resonance of Fate to name a multi-platform title. All of these are coming in February-March.
…and let’s not forget Final Fantasy versus XIII (PS3 exclusive), although that’s still some ways off.
My battle cry goes straight to Tecmo and their “innovation-based” strategy to make “brand new games”.
Quantum Theory doesen’t give a shit of international copyright laws, it reminds me at the time (’70/’80) when some videogames were the exact copy of another: same sound, same animations, same gameplay, just with different colours: different title, same game. But, you know, it was almost 40 years ago.
I mean, I don’t even have to mention wich game QT is attempting to clone… wait… to clone? no, to plagiarize, better. but, do they really have to copy every single little particular from that game to give birth to a similar one? Animations, chatacter “feel”, manouver icons, speed-run, aiming, atmosphere (ok, not exactly) and more, oh boy so much more (just look at the scene on the street). now, I know that a lot of devs out there take “inspiration” from other’s work, but geez, noone goes so far like Tecmo. It’s all of this even legal?
don’t get me wrong, I’m not pissed off, not at all, but I do love games a lot, and as a gamer I’m feeling unconfortable with this… there’s something wrong and maybe it’s a little bit our fault as a mass of mindless consumers.
And finally I’ve reached my point: do we really have to take responsability for this? yes, I think we should.
If even a dev like Tecmo, that should well know how much human work and creativity is needed to create a vg, doesen’t feel any kind of shame stealing heavily here and there (they actually admit it themselves) there must be a reason, so I feel guilty too. what do you think, guys?
However, it was always my dream to make a game ripping off Resident Evil… but instead of throwing granades, I imagine Chris and Jill fight against the “Brolly Corporation” throwing little farting garden-dwarfs at zombies. I’d like to call’it: The Hermeneutic Consistency.
Finally I know, Tecmo might be my chance.
Anyway, “That game” is Gears of War.
As alot of other Axe Heads have pointed out, the PS3 is region-free.
I’m in the UK and got my copy of Demon’s Souls from Hong Kong (via ebay)…it does indeed kick some serious tail.
Great show guys!
The game is Future Wars.
Thanks so much for another awesome episode. Can’t wait for the next one.
Another great EBC, thank you.
my battlecry is a followup on this weeks user battlecry. Publishers region locking games sucks! I am lucky enough to have an original 60gb UK ps3 which is region free so i can get games from where ever. When batman arkham asylum came out i wanted to preorder the collectors eddition but didnt have the money in my account, when i did the collectors eddition was sold out! so me being the silly fool that i am I went on Ebay and imported the US collectors edditon and payed for good postage and package insurance(dont want it going missing
). well i got it 2 weeks late as I had to pay for UK customs charges and overall with postage and such it cost me 120 pounds which was double the retail price… You can get it online from retailers for 36pounds collectors now… I did however get a better box than the pal collectors eddition. And wait for it wait for it, as its from the US DLC doesnt work
so no joker no collectors dlc no nothing!
I dont import games now…
my atctual shout out is to collectors edditions and limited edditions. I love it when a game that I know i am going to enjoy is coming out and they bring out a collectors eddition or any special eddition. I also love collectors statergy guides(I never buy normal statergy guides), hardback game guides with all the artworkk and themed pages rox. It is hard in the Uk to get collectors edditions as alot of the online retailers wont stock them or they are not even brought to the UK! For instance mass affect 2 collectors eddition is up on one site and then the guide is only up on another site! Also when they get the pricing wrong it is so anoying, when pc collectors edditions cost the same as a console one, i never know which one to get as the normal editions are priced differently per console/pc.
props to EBA
I live in france and I imported Demon’s Souls from the US and it runs perfectly on an european ps3. However, unlike other games I’ve imported from the US, it only displays on NTSC (50 Hz) and not in PAL (60 Hz). If you’ve got a TV set that supports both then you should have no prob, if you don’t (like me u__u) the game will run in black and white which sucks but it’s better than nothing.
I’m confused by one of the Battle Crys this week, namely the region lock on Games, Demon’s Souls was used as an example. PS3 games are not region locked and Demon’s Souls can be purchased in the US and played on european PS3′s.
Great show guys!
Im just curious about something, you said Zelda spirit tracks hasn’t come out over the US?
Its already launched in EU, i held a copy in my hands just today
So its not in production, its finished and released.
Great episode.
It’s what i wait for every week!
yeah, he’s right: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Legend-Zelda-Spirit-Tracks-Nintendo/dp/B001TOQ8UW
Alright so you guys wanted Natal ideas. I guess my Battle Cry will go out to the more educational approach to the device instead of having it just as an entertainment product. I think the potential lies in expanding the concept of some of Nintendos past titles (Brain Age, Brain Training) but also in providing a more realistic take on actual scenarios that can occur in real life. For example first-aid simulations, self-defense exercises or why not driving lessions? I believe these are all things that Natal can expand on and at the same time be a helpful tool for people. There’s been huge debates over medical students here in Sweden that takes part in actual procedures and not being fully educated. Natal could be an optional tool for that too in which students could work without the risk of physically hurting someone in the process of educating themselves.
My firm belief is that the strenght of Natal lies in different app’s like the ones i mentioned above, and i bet we’ll see tons of small games like these on Xbox Live once it’s released. Thats my battle cry! cheers.
Hey everyone, DK here. Thx for all of the feedback, specifically regarding the Demon’s Souls thing. Please check the UPDATE on the post up top for a link to our official response and as always, thx for checking out the show!

Natal ideas.
Well one thing I want to see is a nice fighting game that involves your hole body. Every technique you can do, whether it is a superattack or blocking you will do it with your body. But the main question is, can they really do it?
Something i would like to see for natal is:
Ever since I saw Milo on E3, I have had a thought in my head, how awesome it would be if every character in a game would be like milo. Take games like Dragon Age, Oblivion and Fallout 3. There are alot of conversation with NPC’s in those games. What if instead of choosing a bunch of text, you actually had to speak to them.
Imagine this:
You just did something heroic in the game. The NPC’s in the game is starting to pay attention to what you’re doing, and many know who you are and what you have done. One day a dude comes and asks for your autograph. Now, what you do is up to you. What if you said “Get lost, you piece of shit” What would be the NPC’s reaction. When I think about it what would be milo’s reaction if you said the same to him. Anyway…
However, what if you actually agreed to give him your autograph, how would you give it? Write it on a piece of paper and scan it like they did with the fish drawing with milo? What if you wrote “you’re a piece of shit” on the paper? How would the NPC react? Wait a second, I’m going to far with this, aren’t I? And I forgot, Natal can’t read!
Hi Guys (Great Show)
My Battlecry this week is after a crap Christmas with very little new releases, especially if you are like me who bought Assissans Creed 2, Batman, NFS Shift, Forza 3 and a few more when they were first released had nothing at all for Christmas “only a promise of a realy good start to the new year”
Now we are listing to delay after delay Next we will hear of Mafia 2, Max Payne 2 from 2K Games been put back along with Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption etc, its the middle of January and we are facing untill the middle of 2010 before we see any of the highly anticipated games of 2010, I suppose we can forget about Batman 2 untill 2011/2012 now along with everything eles.
Not everyone is interseted in Dark Void, Just Cause & Mass Effect Id rather play with a Dirty Donkey’s Tail for a while than these games.
So Finally I suppose nearly everything shown at E3 last year will not hit the shelves untill 2011 /2012 so we should add a least a year to everything due for release now to be acurate….. Bloddy hell
My EpicBattleCry goes out to Bioware
- or who ever the FUCK decided its a good idea t completely fill the internet with shit teasers. Such as the one were the alien thing says “I didnt decide to fight b/c i love humans, i decided to fight b/c i love to fight” or what ever it is. i mean im on the fence of buying this game – and these crappy teasers that are fucking EVERYWHERE is a turn off. like aliens with shitty lines does not pose your game as being interesting like i dont understand how they think that would attract people. More crap trailers is worse than a few good trailers – MW2 shows that.
Who r these noob cakes. just import Demon Soul u fool. All PS3 games are Region FREE no need to Pirate the game btw U CAN’T. I’m sorry but the end of this show was a Epic Fail
[...] Assassin’s Creed Director’s Cut Announced EBC Skirmish 060: Grab and Pull »On Regions, Demons, Locks, and Love. Tuesday, January 19th, 2010 at 10:04 am | by [...]
you are totally right but some retailers have an embargo so even if they are region free they will not ship to europe. play-asia has alot of this crap. I bought demon souls from yes-asia and it cost a tone of money to import I think its lame that even with a region free system people that want to buy the game will be forced to wait or in some cases not be able to play it.
It is true, I have read up and you can import this game and it will work. However, my immediate concern about this is that the multiplayer functions (which sound awesome by the way, black phantoms, hastily scribbled notes in blood and the like) will either not work or be extremely laggy with only American players and servers, so invading another persons game or having mine invaded could be a totally shit experience compared to people on the forums saying it was scary/ exhilarating or whatever.
That and have you ever imported a game to the UK? It costs like £70, which is like $120 right now!
I can see where your coming from with the Darksiders being fun and that’s where you leave it, if its fun to play it a good game. Although where people are coming from when they saying its a copycat, they aren’t saying it isn’t fun to play, but what they are saying is can you get the same amount of fun from a game that already has already come out? The game that actually took the initiative to make the innovation that inspire the game your playing and from what I hear Darksiders takes components God of war and Zelda and puts them together. So if you don’t want to play God of War for 5 hours then play Zelda for another 5 hours, just play Darksiders 10 hours of!
my battlecry goes out to all gamecompanys including natal come whit a release date whit your frist trailer so’the watcher know whats comming
my idea 4 natal is reloading your guns whit natal and sniper lvl like cod4 whit the 50cal. natal base but not that you need natal 4 that its need 2 be a option
sorry 4 my bad english and keep it up guys

One thing about another world, there’s video commentary on a certain Japanese streaming site in which the player gets his ass kicked over and over again while playing it.
And about region coding, as far as I know Europe is the only region in which Sony has region differences; I can play Japanese games fine on my US PS3 (hooray for NTSC), I never understood why they made a PAL version, to be honest.
My battlecry is in fact about that, I brought Final Fantasy 13 recently, and ignoring all the issues I have with the game itself, I am extremely pleased with the synchronization between my US-brought PS3 and my imported copy of FF13. All the trophies are in English, and they even maintained the US-button layout instead of switching to the Japanese one without telling me. I am pleased indeed.
A use for Natal:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-zxi_Y4Xu8
what the fuck are you talking about bayonetta, darksiders, army of 2 40th day, MW2 multiplayer, those are all very fresh in my mind just this month still hey do yourself a favor open up that palette a little bit you wont be disappointed
My battlecry goes to Microsoft and Natal. For the love of of mankind, please cancel that project, (what they surely won’t do, because the money they invested in it so far…) or at least rethink it.
As far as I know, there are some really good gaming devices for example the steering wheel. Now, how the fuck can Microsoft make a Forza like game to be a more realistic “driving experience” without a steering wheel? Now anyone who has a valid driving license, and has any sense of logical thinking knows, that it simply cannot be done in any different way. Steering the air? WTF! OK, i admit that it’s new and innovative but it’s just not the right choice for these type of games.
Still I could imagine it, as you guys said, in a Rainbow Six type of game as hand gestures, like hold, or breach, that would be really awesome, but still it adds as a plus maybe 5-10% of the whole gaming experience.
And how you gonna play fighting games with Natal, shit i have to learn Taekwondo, or what? From now on only a real life Sam Fisher will be able to play Splinter Cell 6???
From my experience the majority who own some kind of console (my friends and relatives), they just don’t have enough room in front of they’re TV to start breakdancing.
To sum up my thoughts, I think that Microsoft has to rethink their strategy on Natal and NOT building up the entire xbox360 console around it. For example SONY is doing it just right, they have full body motion sensor (or WTF are they called), and A CONTROLLER!
I didn’t think PS3s were region locked. I know people that imported FF13 from Japan and are playing it fine on their PS3s
I believe we would all agree (once you see the videos) when I say that this weeks member battle Cry should go out to Natural Point and specifically the Track IR5. These days motion controls are all the craze and I think that what the TrackIR brings to the table is most definitely a huge step into complete immersion. It has been mostly appreciated in Sims for some time now, but with the tech today it is so intuitive that anyone can handle the learning curve in just a few minutes. Its also unintrusive to classic control schemes so we dont have to give up our mouse&keyboards and gamepad set ups that we have become so attached to.
We need more developers supporting device. Arma2 is a great game that has expanded my perspective of what gaming is and when I saw it play with TrackIR I was sold…see for your self:
http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/02-products/product-videos.html
I’ve heard no complaints about the multiplayer functions from other people who have imported. Also, it doesn’t cost that much to import. axelmusic.com has it for £40.37 including delivery, (http://www.axelmusic.com/productDetails/730865001323) there are a few decent prices on ebay and if you’re in the north Grainger Games have it instore for £40 (where I got mine yesterday). http://www.graingergames.co.uk/default.asp?showpage=branches
All in all, it’s a little annoying that the guys were complaining about something on the one console where it isn’t an issue.
If only my Wii would connect to the damn internet.
As a frequent user of Netflix streaming, I can comfortably say it has almost no HD, so I think it’s a perfectly valid argument.
“As long as this thing is going to be in our living room”
See, that’s where you’re wrong. Natal doesn’t HAVE to be in our living room. If nobody buys it, we can stop worry about bullshit motion controls being forced on us and screwing up our games.
Ok, yeah seriously, where the FLYING SHIT are all the RPGs for PS3?
PS1 and 2 had a fantastic plethora of RPG’s and were pretty much the leaders for that genre during their times. Come on already Sony.

Just watched show, and for people that should know about games, dont even know the ps3 is region free. I’m in the uk and i have final fantasy xii, demon souls, god of war collection and blazblue ohh and about 30+ NA blu rays (some blu rays our region locked, it’s up to the company eg fox blu ray’s arnt region free)plus the 360 is region free i have a NA ghostbusters for it (same as the blu rays the console is region free but the companys can region lock the disc, so thats why i have blazblue for PS3 not 360)
hope they adrres this and say something about it on there website or in next weeks show, and tell the guy that sent in his battle cry, to just go import demons souls
!!NATAL FEEDBACK!!
I had an idea that would be nice to see on both NATAL and the PS3 EYE. I actually started thinking about this when I saw the Step Backwards taken with the fighting in Final Fantasy 13.
It would be nice if they took a more Devil May Cry’ish approach to Final fantasy. Using natal or the PS3 Eye you could expand the fighting experience by having the EYE or NATAL trigger spells and summons by our actual body movements. At the same time allowing the actual controller buttons to be used for different attacks. Heavy, Weak, Pop-up. It would improve upon the battle systems and make the games more interactive and in depth.
My EpicBatlleCry goes out to Natal
I think we already have enough stuff to track body movements (Wii,PS2 Eye Toy, PS3 Eye) I think microsoft should invest in something BIGGER.
A good exemple of this would be the The Virtusphere
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzZeeWk0S7M&feature=related)
cos if microsoft would bring a first-person shooter where the player can “move” tro the virtaul world and also play ing it (in this cause shoot people (you can never go wrong with that)) and even play online with his buddies, now that would be something awesome and mind blowing(and not to forgot who would like to be IN a game).
PS3 games are REGION FREE !!! I’m from Eastern Europe, and bought my PS3 in the US, when I was living there few years back. Now I live in Bulgaria, and I buy games from here … don’t get any problems with them – they all work just fine … so UK gamer – just order Deamon’s Soul from ebgames / gamestop / bestbuy or whatever, and play it … don’t worry … IT WILL WORK
If the games on blueray disc it is region protected….
My Battle cry:
I’ve got 3 words for you epic battle axe: SONY MOTION CONTROLLER
”well have to see if [Natal] can distinguish the nuisances of hand motions versus the full body motions they’ve demonstrated thus far.”- Brent
This is why I firmly believe Sony’s motion controller will IMPROVE hardcore gaming rather than hinder it. The tech demo they showed was flabbergasting! It was able to track the movement of the controller with 1/1 speed and accuracy. The applications for all genres of games is limitless. The main problem with the wii-mote is it dose not track the position of the mote in 1/1; the wii mote dose not record angle(without the wii motion plus) nor relative position to the sensor bar. Natal is a silly gimmick that will hinder games, Its just poorly thought out, WTF are you supposed to do to shoot a gun? wave your finger? We all know partial integration would be cool, but that’s not going to revolutionize gaming. To be honest, we all know they won’t get it right, Microsoft will want to push the technology and showcase it to justify the price tag; which will inevitably yield a bunch of ‘motion only’ shity games. I think it will be a long while before we see well implemented partial integration, especially from third parties. Plus do really want to pay $100 for a natal upgrade just so you can wave your hand to give orders in rainbow 6!?. That seems like a bad deal to me! Sony’s motion controller will let us play the games we like to play and Instead of removing functionality It will add a entirely new layer of tangibility to the game world. I will succeed natal will fail. I’m calling it right now.

My Battlecry goes to Bioware for the launch trailer of Mass Effect 2. I already was really into this game, but this trailer is simply EPIC, this is how a trailer must be done and I think it deserves a congratulation.
The PS3 is region free. Iv imported the God of War collection & Demon Souls.
Face it, today’s most successfull games are FPSs and TPSs, and there’s no way that Natal, like it is right now, will effectively implement movement controls with only motion detection. Microsoft needs to develop some sort of hardware that players can hold with their left hand for character movement (like a simple analog stick) and probably some other hardware on the right hand for fire commands (like a simple trigger). This does not take the sense out of the motion detection which can still be used for aiming, reloading, leaning, covering, melee, issue commands, etc. But at it is right now, there is no way that a FPS / TPS can be played effectively in Natal.
BATTLECRY
I have a battle cry for a suggestion for Rock Band. With the addition of the Rock Band Network, smaller artists will be able to give fans the chance to rock out to their music. I think it would be a cool idea to add a new game feature. Instead of showing the created band performing, let the player run a slide show or a background image off the hard drive.
Album cover art would go well with the new tracks made available through the network. Maybe a slide show of the last family gathering. Even better, use the Playstation Eye or X-Box’s Natal to have a 3 second delayed slide show of you and your friends currently rocking out.
My battle cry goes out to Microsoft and How there not giving us the info on Natal. I’m sick of the stupid pre-made shit videos that are just retarded and Have nothing of interest of what we want. Just like Daniel said, I want to see them on stage to show us how it works. At this year’s E3, they need to show gameplay of them fighting demons on Dante’s Inferno, Sniping Jackels on Halo Reach, or Throwing a Hadoken in Super Street Fighter 4. If they want to impress me with Natal and its motion controls, then they should stop being pretentious assholes and Show how the hardcore games are gonna work on the Natal like Halo or even Modern Warfare 2. I’m not saying I hate Microsoft or anything because I love the 360 and I think its a fantastic console, but I think if Microsoft really wants some hype for this thing, they need to prove this thing is good for the hardcore gamer and not just for the families that only touch the damn thing like once a month.
Well, a lot of smaller companies probably release game info early to secure a publisher. They want to generate some excitement and use that to get funding and a go ahead.
Others maybe test the waters and see if people are interested enough to see the game made. Now, I really don’t know how it works, I’m just speculating here, armed with no understanding of the business whatsoever.
My BattleCry goes out to an Elephant’s Ass also known as Microsoft’s Natal.
The current flavor of Natal is like taking a trip through a warped version of Candyland. However, the insight involved within EpicBattleCry and the perspective through the EBA polls has allowed for gamers devoted to the true nature of gaming to find the potential in developers, just like that of Interplay when they made Out of this World. On the other hand, the future of Natal stems beyond all the tech demos to allow you as a player to progressively output your emotions through that of controlling characters in RTS games with the included aspect of voice recognition. The current nature of Natal is becoming more focused on casual gamers, the future of Natal in 2011 and beyond will focus on Hardcore gaming like Gears of War and Halo, but the future I see through Natal would be games like Alan Wake and Heavy Rain having a child to create an experience only a tool like Natal may provide in the future, but until 3D becomes more mainstream will the aspect of extension come to gamers across the globe to find the potential in Natal and maybe the ability to create a Tron MMO through a 3-D device called Natal Plus.
Like always stay to the High Ground and Keep Breaking Down Digital Walls.
I have a Battle Cry, Capcom vs Tatsunoko needs to be released on the PSN and XBOX LIVE. I want to fight as Blade from the Tekkaman series and Ken the Eagle. Honestly of all the consoles to release this game stateside on they picked the Wii. I don’t care about the graphics, the game play just looks sick.
Yo. My BattleCry goes out to No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle. Finally! A reason for me to pick up and play with my Wii again! NMH2 is one of the most stylized and over the top games I’ve played since the original NMH. And looking at it, I feel almost ashamed at the gaming industry. Why is it that we, as consumers, have to play through all the lousy, generic sequels and re-hashes of the same games in order to be given a fantastic pot of gold? Why don’t game developers take more risks to develop new and interesting games? I understand the risks, but done right, the reward could be phenomenal!
P.S. As far as Natal ideas go, I’d like to see something with giant robots. You get to build and operate your own virtual giant robot, and then take it online and battle with thousands of other virtual giant robots!
My EpicBattleCry goes to a new Natal Idea: I just finished playing Darksiders which was awesome by the way but I was thinking that when I transformed in to the giant chaos mode, it would have been cool to actually swing. Now this would be an ability that would complement a controller based game, not replace it. If the player was able to control when they were able to use Natal in the game and be able to turn it off and on then it would be cool for those times when the character gets really powerful and doesn’t really need to have precision. For example, Darksiders Chaos mode, God of war Strength of the Titans, Devil May Cry Demon mode etc. Also, for FPSs during those mech scenes like in Killzone 2 or F.E.A.R. 2. Either way, having that ability to choose when to activate Natal during a game when precision takes a back seat to power could be a cool implementation.
My Battlecry goes out to misinformed individuals. I love this podcast and others like it (IW and such) and I’m really starting to get tired of the ignorance I see in some of these. 4 or so minutes of the end of this podcast about region coding was so terrible to listen to. I don’t understand how I don’t have your job seeing how none of you even no that Blu-Ray disc are free of the problem of region coding. Really, I would love to work for a site like this, why can’t I have your job if I know more about the industry and it is just a hobby for me? This of course goes out to most of you ‘professionals’, not just this cast and crew.
Good day sir…
I SAID GOOD DAY SIR!
It’s been said but a correction, the ps3 is region free when it comes to games and a few bluray movies, I live in EU and got the US version of demon’s souls and blazeblue for example.
Great ep! I just have to give a shoutout to screwattack’s latest top ten, “Top ten headlines of 2010″, it is one of the funniest things i’ve seen in a long time. check it out
My Battlecry this week goes out to Bioware. I really hope the devs over there get to read this because error they’ve made has occured more than once.
It all started with Masseffect (the first one). The characterbuild was awesome, and then came the lovescene! Neat! They are now pleasing the majority of the gamers.
Then came Dragonage, even better. Now you could gay it up a bit if that’s what floats your boat. They are now pleasing an even larger chunk of gamers and the Canadians.
Now with Masseffect 2 I had hopes, I dared to dream that they would include the possibillity of a freaking THREESOME. I mean seriously isn’t gaming a way for us to escape into a world where the most awesome things are possible?
Many of us will never in our lives experience an actual threesome. Our hopes and dreams lies with you!
Please Bioware, I will continue to have hopes about SWOTOR.
Ps. I’m talking about the good kind of threesome here. Ds.
