Those anxiously awaiting the opportunity to Monkey around with Ninja Theory’s latest action/adventure would probably like to know that Namco Bandai has announced that an exclusive European Collector’s Edition of Enslaved: Odyssey to the West will be available at launch – although no price point was specified.
The custom Collector’s Edition retail box of Enslaved contains a hard-backed high quality artbook featuring concept art and exclusive images documenting the development process of the game at the studios of Ninja Theory in Cambridge, UK. Music fans will be treated to a separate CD containing the original soundtrack from the game, written and produced by internationally renowned composer and musician Nitin Sawhney. Responsible for the music on more than 40 films, 8 studio albums, and with countless other projects and awards to his name, Nitin Sawhney is one of the busiest and most sought after talents working in music today, so I guess Enslaved fans should feel super special.
Inspired by the classic Chinese novel “Journey to the West,” Enslaved features Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings, King Kong) as dramatic co-director and lead character Monkey, a story co-written from the pen of Alex Garland (The Beach, 28 Days Later), and music by acclaimed composer Nitin Sawhney.
Both the standard and Collector’s Editions of the game will be available across Europe on October 8, 2010 for PS3 and 360. The game launches in the US on October 5, 2010.

Although I will buy this D.o.R an artbook doesn’t grab my attention. A collectors edition of an unproven franchise… I don’t know.
Can you imagine if you bought the collectors edition of
Clive Barker’s Jericho back in 2007, it would be a reminder of suckinness and fail don’t you think?
If the coverage turns me on a little bit more and the price difference isn’t bigger then 10€ I might be convident enougth for this one.
I am very sure though that the CE won’t sell out in the first month and will be available at least 20€ of the initial price.
So I will wait probably for this to happen and a good review. ^^
hey axe-holes!!
i’ve been keeping an eye on this for a while and i do hope it’s a good and successful game but ive’ got two reservations:
1: it’s a revision of an age old story and where as this in it’s self is never a bad thing (and done a million times with other titles and done well many times in every medium) i’m a bit disappointed that in a medium as young as gaming there is not more creativity with regards to plot. i think that could discussed at length but not right now and not by me lol
2: the game play trailer where Monkey is surfing around on the “cloud” frankly looked poor and would be more at home on Wii Sports Resort. early build i know but that was my assessment. it looked shit to me.
going back to what Brent said in FF003 about Dante’s Inferno, i was like “WTF RRRrreeeeaaaaaAAAAAAAALLLLY! BA thought that about DI?!!?” personally i thought it was a cash cow and when you consider that DMC was inspired by the same book and the creativity that has spawned, for me there is no comparison. inspiration is one thing and where as imitation may well be the highest form of flattery, it can often also be the highest form of exploitation.
anyway, i hope Enslaved can do justice to the story and i am intrigued and optimistic. what i think i’m trying to say is that if they use the story as a vehicle to show case the graphics and physics without making a fucking great story, i’ll be disappointed. especially given that we know how the story ends cos it’s been told for ever.
actually, i’m gonna retract that last comment about how it ends cos wtf do i know really. they could inject a huge amount of depth in to the plot by including sacrifice as a theme if one were to die to save the other at the end a la Argo in SotC, or indeed MGS1: save Meryl, don’t save Meryl. to do that thought they have to make me fall in love with the characters (yeah, i’m looking at you Trip;)
if there’s no emotional investment in either of them them who cares what happens to them?
top marks for character and environmental design so far, but i’ll say i know a lot of pretty people who are pretty fucking shallow, if you get my meaning.
i was so hoping for this.
