While scoping out Invisible Wall’s, Marcus Beer’s blog today, I came across the weirdest video that he found on Vimeo. The title for the video is simply named, “Video Games”.
The animation and direction of this video was done by a gamer calling himself , “Musclebeaver” (draw your own conclusions as to what his name means). The video takes all our favorite games from each generation and mashes them up into a creative illustration that is suppose to be the prologue to a video game documentary he is making.
The end result for this creation? One very professional, odd, twisted and somehow amusing video. Some of the classics of each generation are portrayed and I enjoyed seeing how the characters at the end of their sequences merged into the next characters sequence, giving you the sense of evolution.
He explains the documentary itself saying, “it portrays the evolution of games and follows different characters based in Germany, describing their everyday lives and their addiction to the same specific, famous “MMORPG’s” like the W one.”
Again, this is only the prologue to that documentary, so don’t expect an actual representation of a documentary in this video. No sense explaining too much about it…it’s just one of those things you gotta see for yourself and then draw your own conclusions. There’s a long pong battle sequence at the start, but bare with it. I promise there’s more to it, once it switches to the next sequence, just remember… I did say it was odd and twisted, enjoy.

Ok I started watching that video and through the Pong bit I was thinking: hmmmmm. Then by the Mario bit I was thinking: Wow cool. By the time Lara hit the screen I was saying out loud ‘What the frack did I just miss?’
Cool vid and definitely right about the professional editing, those transitions were awesome. Especially liked the Mario bit, although I could never imagine Mario wearing that much bling.
Thats a hell of a video, I’d be interested in seing the whole documentary.

Nice piece of… ‘ART’ – of course!!!
Quote:
Every game character in this prologue was reinterpreted, redrawn (…one pixel at a time), and animated frame by frame!
I bet the sound + music editing was not a walk in the park either – all those SID-files…!
Damn, he seriously put some effort in this vid and therefore I’d like to say:
!”RESPECT”!
