Well that didn’t take long…after shutting down the open beta for Final Fantasy XIV on the day it was supposed to launch (as in…yesterday), Square Enix has now announced that the beta is all patched up and will now launch tomorrow, September 2.
As a freshly issued press release puts it:
We would like to take this opportunity to provide an update regarding FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test, which was announced to be postponed on Aug. 31, 2010.
Along with the completion on investigation and correction of the critical issue, we have decided to begin FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test on Sep. 2, 2010 at 02:00 (GMT).
Starting on Sep. 2, 2010 at 02:00 (GMT), acquisition of registration code required for FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test will become available on “FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test Application Site.” For more details, please refer to “FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test Application Site.
At this point, we’re thinking a link to said website is in order so, uh, here ya go…
Happy beta testing and be sure to let your fellow gamers know what you think about Final Fantasy XIV below!

Well, that’s great news! Although I’m still kind of curious of who would rate this news down, are we getting more and more trolls with the pass of time?
Cheers axeheads
The trolls are bound to come eventually. With more people knowing about EBA its only going to get worse.
As for the beta this is good news however is it going to be 2am? On the actual site it says it will be out Sept 1 at 19:00(PDT).
An “open” beta that requires an activation code?…… I do believe they are confused as to what an “open” beta is.
The activation code is like a Registration Code.
This is still an Open Beta, just go register on the SE website for “free”, and then get a code. You can’t blame a company for putting terms on their Beta application system.
Cheers axeheads.
server error. Just what I want!
I’m excited for this game quite a bit, mainly for the console version. Based on what I heard about someone in my town getting in on the closed PC beta, I’m play it safe, and play on a gaming set up that is more…standardized. One of my little brother’s friends got in on the beta, and ended up almost catching one of his graphics cards on fire. Luckly, the dude was a heavey PC gamer, and had 3 more cards installed into his comp. He did go back to play the game again, though.
