Fallout fans rejoice as the first in-game images of the upcoming Fallout: New Vegas have hit the net. The screens showcase everything from characters, to enemies, to menus, while showcasing the atmosphere that makes the series so unique. And by “atmosphere”, I mean “crazy-ass-awesomeness!”
For those that missed the initial announcement, here’s a description of the game:
Experience all the sights and sounds of fabulous New Vegas, brought to you by Vault-Tec, America’s First Choice in Post Nuclear Simulation. Explore the treacherous wastes of the Great Southwest from the safety and comfort of your very own vault: Meet new people, confront terrifying creatures, and arm yourself with the latest high-tech weaponry as you make a name for yourself on a thrilling new journey across the Mojave wasteland. A word of warning, however – while Vault-Tec engineers have prepared for every contingency,* in Vegas, fortunes can change in an instant. Enjoy your stay.
* Should not be construed as a legally-binding claim.
Awesome.
You can check out the new screens right here. Fallout: New Vegas is expected to release this fall.

Looks more like a mega mod.
Get rid of that goddamn stupid Gamebryo engine!
It hasn’t been 2 years since the release of Fallout 3, so it’s unsurprising that New Vegas looks so similar.
Creating a new engine for the game would’ve taken a prohibitively long period of time, and Bethesda wants to release a new Fallout outside of the typical 4 year deveolpment cycle.
Speed is the reason why they tapped Obsidian for the job. Obsidian simply uses the tools already set up for them, which frees up Bethesda’s hands and allows them to go full steam ahead on their current, long-term project (presumably the next Elder Scrolls game).
Considering how Obsidian has handled Bioware’s properties (KotOR 2, Neverwinter Nights 2), it’ll be a great game, but don’t expect it to knock your socks off. If the past is any indication, Obsidian is going to throw in a lot more customization options.
I just hope Bethesda isn’t doing any “under the table” business with neither Microsoft or SONY in regards to DLC. What they did with the original Fallout 3 was a royal kick in the testicles to their PS3 fans.
Cheers Axe heads.
I wouldn’t go so far as to say “under the table.” That suggests shady or outright illegal dealings. Timed exclusivity deals are perfectly legitimate, I just question their effectiveness.
Take a look at GTA IV sales. They were practically split down the middle between both platforms. The only difference was MS shelled out a boatload of cash for the timed exclusivity rights to the DLC episodes. I doubt many people went out and purchased an Xbox 360 just so they could get a hold of GTA IV and the exclusive DLC.
As for the case with Fallout 3, it’s not like PS3 owners, myself included, never got access to the DLC. If anything, they got a better deal because of the discounted package deals that only became available when the DLC launched for the PS3. It made me wish I’d waited instead of paying full price for the content on my 360.
I just hope they release a nearly bugfree title for once. I loved Fallout 3, but in some parts, especially when it comes to the DLC it was nearly unplayable on the PS3 (I guess on other systems too).
@ WakingEveryGod:
My frustration comes from being treated by Bethesda (and Rockstar) as a second class citizen for owning a PS3.
I understand they made an “exclusivity” deal with MS, but the fact that they made that choice is what really infuriates me.
Now, we get this old DLC which is not bug free for a cheaper price, well, let’s say that is the minimum they could have done, but the fact that they chose to shun away their fans in exchange for a “buck” just leaves a lot to be desired.
Cheers axe heads.
I loved the whole fallout universe and letting it back into the basically the original team behind the masterpiece of Fallout 2 I believe they will do alright.
Although the the engine might be dated in some of your books WakingEveryGod had a point, Bethesda could be working on their next Elder scrolls while this is being made. That is another series I want to continue.
@Raisins:
I completely agree. I just felt it necessary to point out that developers and publishers don’t make these deals to screw anyone. If you see a potentially good business deal, you’re probably going to take it.
However, I personally believe exclusivity deals don’t foster good business for the same reasons you listed in your last post. It is, indeed, a lame practice.
@Bouncy:
A nearly bug free game of Fallout’s size is currently impossible. The number of variables that exist in the game world are staggering. Changing the position of a rock on one side of the game world could cause any number of problems on the other side of it.
Let me put it into perspective: Some 40,000 hours of debug testing (cumulated between multiple testers) was done on Fallout 3 throughout its 4 year development cycle, and it still had numerous bugs.
Anyone who says, “These guys don’t work hard enough to get bugs out of games,” is just plain ignorant.
Expecting large scale games to be bug free, current technology considered, is unreasonable.
i’m really looking forward for this
ahaha really looking forward to this especially since its the older team doing it
and gives bioware a chance to make another elder scrolls game which I’d also love!(reading the book atm & loving it too) As for some previous comments, this game doesn’t look like that drastic of a change because it has not been long at all. Also they are keeping it safe since its not their engine and all that really needs to be done to make this succesful is make it have the atmosphere more like Fallout 2 & add a couple more convenient features & maybe a party/ a better companion system which it seems like they are doing; which is great! Also personally I hardly ever experienced bugs with the past title but considering how huuge it is you have to give them credit they spent countless hours on that past title & it was a huge success in my opinion both business & game play wise
. Really hoping they make the main storyline more appealing with this new one. Personally didn’t like F3′s too much :.. Mainly only enjoyed the side quests as in Oblivion
