So this thread is dedicated to Natural Selection 2.
What is Natural Selection 2?
Natural Selection 2 (or NS2) is a FPS/RTS Multiplayer Only for the PC developed by an Indie Studio called Unknown Worlds. You can think of it as a mashup between Counter-strike and StarCraft. Here is a brief explenation of the game:
And here is a review of the game. DISCLAIMER: The game has been rigoursly patched since release so most of the performance hickups has been solved. The game has also been substantly rebalanced since release so the review is not a 100% accurate. It is however a good representation of the game.
The game is asymmetrical which means that the 2 teams play completely different. Even though they share some of the same strategies and have the same goal the way you play it is different depending on which team you choose. Which means that if you get bored with one team you could switch to the other for a different experience. I myself likes to play Aliens because I like to bite marines in the face! :)
Since the offical release one year ago the game has gotten about 30 patches (which is about 1 patch every 2 weeks) so Unknown Worlds (or UWE for short) is dedicated to this game. To be honest the game was a bit buggy on release and had problem with performance but that has been fixed since then. They have also released 2 DLCs for free which have included new alien abilities, new weapons, new maps and more.
The first DLC was called Gorgeous
And the Second DLC was called Reinforced
What is the purpose of this thread?
The purpose is to get the Axe-community engaged in this, in my opinion, great game and hopefully play it together :) Also, I want this game to get more well known in the gaming populace because I think it deserves more attention than it is getting.
If it is so great, why are so few playing it?
A lot of it has to do with the fact that it has a pretty steep learning curve. You have to invest at least 4 - 6 hours into it before you start to get a grasp of it. If you get over that hump you will have a blast. For my part it has become my Teamwork multiplayer-game of choice. That crown belonged earlier to Battlefield 2 and 3. I am skipping Battlefield 4 this year because NS2 better delivers my "fix".
Why do you like it?
I like it because it has a strong focus on Teamwork. You HAVE to work as a team to win. A mic is more or less mandatory to get the most out of this game. The community is also generally really friendly and helpful to newcomers, explaining how stuff works and so forth. The game is patched regularly and gets a lot of love from the developers. The game has a strong mod support and it is just awesome!
I usually play at 20.00 (GMT +1) on Sundays with some people from the Rock, Paper, Shotgun-forum. They are a great and friendly bunch who also have their own server as well as their own Mumble-server. If you want to play just let me know and add me on Steam (Steam nickname: best_jeppe) and also send me a message here on EBA saying what your Steamname is or I wont add you :)
The game is at the moment 75% off until November 4th on Steam so you can get it for about $/€6 on Steam which is a no brainer to me :)
Rock, Paper, Shotguns Steamgroup for the game: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/rpskulk
I hope I see you guys :)
I should say that tomorrow the 3rd of November I won't be able to play because I am working. The sunday after that I should be able to though :)
You can get the game for about $6 at the Humble Bundle Store for the next 12 hours. https://www.humblebundle.com/store
You're welcome :) Feel free to play with us this coming sunday :)
