It's a topic that has been discussed everywhere on the internet but I think it would be a good start to the Culture section of the EBA forums.
I personally don't mind the term myself. I don't mind being classified as a gamer in most social circles unless it's said in an inflammatory way. I think it's a fitting term for someone who's primary hobby is playing games.
What do my fellow Axeheads have to say?

To me it seems that it depends on the social circles you hang around…
I have a group of friends who aren't gamers by definition, but definately don't think the term is derogatory in any way – they may not understand the infatuation, but they don't look down on me or anyone else for being a gamer…
Some may even surprise you, i have a friend – and she is what you would classify as a partier – very beautiful girl, goes clubbing, very social and outgoing… not someone i was typically guess to be gaming World of Warcraft on a VERY regular basis! – but i would definately call her a gamer of sorts.
However i do also know some people, who definately thinks that it's geeky, weird and a little "childish" – and i suspect they do look a little down on gamers.
Generally speaking though, gamer isn't a bad term anymore – that's at least not my understanding of it.
I agree with you guys, gamer is used in bad sense. The person who is clever, cunning and knows all tricks and mostly dirty tricks.
