Mario Kart, that would be the first i would get. Then Advance Wars and New Super Mario Bros.

Thats the 3 best ones, then go after Puzzle/ Logic games like Picross and Layton, those always work the best on handhelds.

It depends what kind of games you like, I'll just talk about a few games you might want to check out if you like that genre of games.

-Mario Kart DS. Though to be fair, I've played the Wii version much more often, but if you travel regularly this is nice to play when you have a few minutes.
- Super Mario 64 is a remake of the original N64 game, I bought this game because I never got a chance to play the original but I've only played it a bit. So far though I like it but if you don't like Mario then you'll probably not like it :P.
- Professor Layton & The Curious Village (I haven't bought the other one yet). This is a nice little game if you like puzzling. The story adds some incentive and the puzzles are varied (although there are quite some that go back to the same theme). I haven't finished this game personally, if you like puzzling you might want to check it out.
- Final Fantasy III and IV (I haven't played IV yet but III is quite difficult, so you're warned in advance. If you like difficult RPGs with some grinding, you might like it)
- Pokémon Platinum (the one DS game I have actually finished)
And if you like Zelda you might want to check out the Spirit Tracks Zelda game or the older one, I don't have this game as I haven't finished Twilight Princess. I don't know if the Zelda DS games are good or not from a personal experience but thought I'd mention them.

That's all I can think of right now.

I've never been on DSIware but there might be some nice titles there, I have no idea.

Its a turn-based strategy game, very addictive. The first game is better and is one of the best reviewed games on the system.

Get Contra 4, that game is badass.
That's one of the three games out of like ten that I haven't traded in.
