With the announcement of the PSP Go today Sony needed a flagship title to release alongside it and they have it in Gran Turismo PSP. Originally announced during the 2004 E3 Conference Gran Turismo PSP promises to be not just a port but a fully realized racing simulator. With over 800 cars and 35 tracks this title aims to offer an experience just as satisfying as a home console could provide. Add to the mix silky-smooth 60fps game play and the ability to race up to 4 friends via ad hoc and you have one impressive package. You’ll also have the option of trading cars with your buddies, making it easier to fill up that garage.
Also announced today was Gran Turismo 5 for the PS3 which was shown in video form only. No date was given for the PS3 title but we will be able to pick up Gran Turismo PSP alongside the new PSP Go on October 1st, 2009.
Check out the opening cinematic trailer:

Wow, 800 cars, that is damn impressive. I’m not much a racing fan and relegate myself to the likes of Burnout and NFS: Hot pursuit series, but I do like how there are different styles of racing. I couldn’t pick it out individually but i’m sure street racing would be there as well. Anyway good to know Polyphony haven’t been sitting under a rock twiddling their thumbs after completing GT for the next gens.
Wouldn’t make me get a PSP Go! but like I said, i’m not a racing fan.
