It’s always fun to be the good guys, hunting the killer down and being the hero of the hour. Sometimes though it’s nice to see the world through the a different perspective (like that of a calculating killer) and that’s exactly what an episode of the Heavy Rain Chronicles will allow you to do.
David Cage, founder of developer Quantic Dream, told Gameblog.fr that players will control the “Origami Killer” in one of the DLC episodes. This episode will be the only episode that isn’t a prequel to the main story and will explain the killer’s origins.
Cage also revealed some details on those prequel episodes, saying that the “taxidermist episode” (and probably the others) will be about an hour long and explain why Madison Paige suffers from insomnia and another one will show the origins of Norman Jayden’s drug addiction.
More good news is that the Heavy Rain Chronicles might not be the end of Heavy Rain. Cage said the studio would be interested in making more prequel episodes for Heavy Rain depending on the success of the episodes.
Considering there might not be a sequel, this seems like a great method of fleshing out the game’s characters and story and can only add to the unique experience the game looks to give.
Heavy Rain ships exclusively on the PlayStation 3 in late February.

I really want Heavy Rain to do well. It’s mature narrative is exactly what adult gamers need. Publishers need to WAKE UP – there are a lot of 30 something gamers these days that are not being catered for.
have to agree. although the game is unproven i’d like to see a lot more devs going for artistic integrity rather than quick-buck band-wagon-jumping a la MOH:Afghanistan.
Flower: ace
Braid: ace
and although neither of those is necessarily rated as mature, the content is intellectually and emotionally mature.
i hate when people use “mature” to refer to violence in games. HR and GOW3 are my 2 most anticipated titles this year (PS3 much? lol) but GOW is certainly not a mature game. Yes it’s an awesome jerk-fest of bloody violence, and that’s cool and for grown ups, but in the same breath it’s still pretty immature. Farting makes me laugh, so i’m cool with it.
i really hope HR can deliver some mature content as in social commentary, philosophy and explores the psychology behind the characters actions (as well as a little T&A, maybe), and i don’t mind if it’s a little pretentious as there has to be a pretence in any artform to contextualize the work.
i just hope it doesn’t fail cos if it does we’re stuck with FPS ‘nade fests and the Wii cos no-one else will take a similar gamble in future.
