Kinect is officially hitting North American shores November 4 this year with 15 launch titles including Harmonix’s Dance Central, Ubisoft’s MyShape Fitness Evolved and slew of Microsoft Kinect family-friendly games.
Kinect will require an additional power source for all 40 million 360 consoles currently in use, but the controller-free system is plug-in ready for the new Xbox 360 available for retail this week.
Kinect utilizes body motion and voice commands to control almost every aspect of the 360, including Zune, Netflix, social networking programs and user profiles as well as the new games. Microsoft’s Kinect demonstration flowed without any major hiccups in soft- or hardware, so we can hope to see the same level of quality in our homes when Kinect ships this holiday season.

I’m really not so sure about this. Watching it from the stream It seemed I couldn’t help but cringe every time someone on the stage said “removing the need for a controller”
Maybe its the 26+ years of playing games… and maybe like most humans I’m uncomfortable with change.. But I honestly just could not see how I would be able to play some of the games I have loved over the years sans controller.
I keep seeing the “Minority Report” style of interaction term getting tossed around, and I admit that does intrigue me especially for menu’s and guiding myself through certain aspects of gameplay… I’m still not totally sold yet.
spastic fantastic !!! XD
Guys, just wait till the tech develops more for the hard core gaming. That way you get to save your money and spend it when your sure it’s worth it. There’s no harm in seeing in where this is going.
Kinect has potential, just give them a chance and keep in mind they are trying to tap into the Wii’s casual market. If you don’t like it, just don’t buy it and keep playing the games we love, like Gears or Halo.
bleh, I’ll have to wait for the conference tomorrow but from what I have seen today at the Microsoft conference I was pretty damn disapointed.. it kind of felt like they were alienating their MAIN audience! which is us! lol the “hardcore” gamers.. Really sad that they are just going the whole “rip away Wii players” way.. Twas really hoping for them to show the TRUE potential of the Natal/KonWii as I like to call it now ahaha. Such as A RTS that is ACTUALY good on a console for once! lol or some other great ideas from 3rd party developers.. ah well As of right now if they continue on this gimmicky Wii sports/wiifit type root I would rather them just stay completely away from AAA titles.
Just have to wait until tomorrow to see if they change everyone’s opinion because as of right now I think everyone thinks Microsoft Flopped their Conference pretty damn bad xD..
Minus MGS for the 360!!! WOOT
The argument that Microsoft has abandoned the hard core gamer is laughable. I don’t see why it’s such a big deal that MS is wanting to tap another market. They aren’t going to tap a new market and just barely mention their intentions in that field. You want something like that to work you gotta go all the way with it. But that aside, you still got some games…my main gripe however is this.
Has everyone forgotten the third party developers? Seriously let them [MS] take on another type of market…hard core gamers are well taken care of by many many developers.
I’m skeptic about the kinect like everyone else but my gf is psyched…she doesn’t like the controller (too many buttons). So their big press conference showing the casual gamer what they can do must be working.
I guess since I’m a pc gamer at heart I really don’t look MS’s conference for the big titles like most people do. I’m usually paying attention to third party developers more then MS, Sony, or Nintendo. And I think everyone else should too.
A lot of “casuals” are sold on kinect. Us hardcore might cringe at this sort of thing, mostly because it has a massive amount of shovelware. But from watching the press conference there was some decent “shovelware”, this decent stuff will always outsell the crap.
Anyways I have the feeling that Microsoft is heavily relying on the third party support for there “hardcore gamers”, and need to push some new IP’s to keep us happy. I was very happy and excited that they showed the game by crytech, but I was expecting at least one more hardcore “IP”
What I also noticed was that the conference was that the games that were shown, are coming out in the fall, and the only two were in early 2011, which would suggest that Microsoft is holding some stuff back for X10 show in the fall.
Microsoft has managed to come up with something that looks and plays alot more absurdly than the Wii.
What is it with companies these days where they seem to be thinking up ways of making gamers look like total idiots while playing their favourite games.
Congrats on your Eye Toy, Xbox. You’re a couple years late.
You sure look silly dancing infron of Kinect the only purpose I see for this device is Fitness games and Dancing games, nothing else… And I am not sold at all I don’t like this change. The only thing appealing is that you don’t need a controller when you are watching a movie or something.
