After countless amounts of rumors and speculation, Microsoft has today confirmed that the Kinect motion-sensing camera will retail for $149.99 when it ships to retailers this fall. A copy of Kinect Adventures, the casual mini-game collection which was demoed during MSoft’s E3 Press Conference, will be included with the hardware.
In addition, Microsoft also announced a new Xbox 360 “S” Model that includes 4GB or internal storage, but is capable of using up to 32GB of USB storage. You’ll be able to pick up this Xbox 360-Arcade-like unit for $200 by itself when it goes on sale in North America on August 3, 2010 or for $300 bundled with Kinect when it launches November 4th.
Lastly, according to Aaron Greenberg of Microsoft (via Joystiq), pricing on first-party Kinect software will be $50 while retailers are listing third-party games a bit higher at $60.
Oh, and if you pre-order Kinect in any form “today”, Microsoft has stated that you’ll earn a token good for three exclusive levels of the included Kinect Adventures.
Have an opinion on the pricing? What about the new “S” model? Plan on picking this thing up?!?!? Connect with your fellow gamers and share your thoughts below!

Oh god…WWWHHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Price is way to high and the games way to boring, Won’t be kinected any time soon.
So now the waiting for the killer game bundle begins.
i think its time microsoft listened to their consumers. i propose noone on this site buys the kinect, and spreads the word, we need kinect to flop in its opening if we are to change microsoft prices, they’re extortionate.
I kinda want Kinect to succeed, so I can pick up the actually usable Kinect 2 in the future.
Microsoft might get some people buying it who don’t own consoles, the $300 price for the bundle isn’t that bad, although the $150 price is way too expensive for the standalone.
I wont buy Kinect till there are some decent hardcore games for it. Plain and simple. Its even in a way cheaper then Sony’s Move if you want the full package.
and especially with the heat here, its even better for the console that its cooler
The Xbox S model however does look good. I think its now out in the Netherlands aswell and in a while Ill pick it up so I wont have to use my brothers version haha
omfg… really 150€, kinda thought the price will be that high but i had the hopes up…
well my problem is that i HAVE to get it… I’m not into that casual stuff but i just NEED TO HAVE it, i don’t know why… arrrg!
well… lets see if i still NEED TO HAVE it when it releases… hehe
All that is needed is a whinny kid and the mother’s/grandmother’s will be flocking to the stores this holiday season to get them the “new hot thing” that I’m sure will be advertised like crazy.
This is crazy if Microsoft thinks that people are going to trade in their Wii for this. Most of the casual gamers don’t own and Xbox 360 so they have to buy the system with Kinect and thats $300 + games (not very likely). The Xbox 360 for casual gamers is a very hard sell because Xbox 360 is know for online hardcore gaming not casual gaming, is like trying to make a strip club a family friendly environment, reputation wise is not going to happen may be not from Wii owners and financially ether because they have a system for games and they are going to ask themselves Why do I need another??.
I think its overpriced, you will also have to buy some games for it. Considering it will cost you ~200-250 for the entire deal i would spend that money on 4 other proper games.
Still its better than the PS3 equivalent for a 2 ppl play solution might end up costing you over 250 for just the hardware and around 500 for 4 ppl solution.
Sent from my HTC Desire
Microsoft would have a great deal with the bundle of “S” and Kinect if the price was lower (maybe around 200-220).
I think that bundle is perfect for the audience they like to ‘connect’ with.
That said, I don’t think Microsoft will be able to convince people (most of them have probably a wii already) to buy it.
I think Sony is doing a better job to promote the Move to the ‘hardcore’ gamer. Then only one question pops up: Do they want this? (My anwser till now: Nope )
But I give them props for trying it.
Don’t want any of the games it offers at this point, so I am more or less paying $150 to use my hands to move the dash and talk to my Xbox, which I already do (on account of the crazy) so I don’t see any point of owning this yet.
So… i like the idee of kinect but i hate what they offer for it
even though i think my mother would love them… maybe even my dog would like to play with that tiger
(does kinect “see”dogs ?). Anyway to answer you’re question… no, i will not buy this until they give us something better … they said “a new way to play games” well i want to see that, i don’t want “a new way to make yoga and to pet tigers”
I wasn’t expecting a lower price.. so no surprise for me here…and i won’t complain because the price is kind of the same with ps Move (and you only have to buy one pice of hardware not 3 or how many does the move need – the camera, and the two controllers-) but i was expecting some better games for it… i mean what they have so far sucks
ok lets list what it has first
- 1 webcam (hq i believe) 640×480 (30)
- 1 web cam (again hq) 320×240 (>30)
- 1 microphone (assumeing hq) (>30)
- a third thing (dont know what it is) (?)
now add up the prices of comparable thing pc wise
- hd webcam (1280×720) (50$)
- shit but useable cam (640×480) (30$)
- ok mic (30$)
ok, cant get excited about it on speca alone. lets see here
games?
they are all party crap
features?
shit i can do with a controller faster, only slower
its cheap?
i have droped 150$ on useless shit before, but this is worse than them.
hope?
i have no hope this will be anything more than a waste of time money and resourses and will bite them in the ass.
You guys (most) don’t know know what your talking about! This thing is going to sell. Sell. and SELL. no question. The bundle in my opinion is underpriced! and the camera is cheaper than i orginally thought it was going to be, 200+. I have a bunch of media networked, and just to have the ability to come home and have it recognize me, and then by me saying xbox on or something is going to be SWEET! that means nomore wasting batteries, like before you would just turn on your xbox find your show and throw the controller to the side. Not anymore!!! I wish they added a onboard processor, but would of had a way higher price tag. Honestly the games is the last thing on my mind. You know xbox will rival wii games in everyway, one being kinect sports. Sure it will be buggy and lag every so often but its a start. I just want xbox to put this behind them are start focusing on the next xbox. IMO its overdue. Ive got my kinect on preorder!!!
@Rosco
So you are saying that you like to pay for something that is: “Sure it will be buggy and lag every so often”.
Another flaw in your argument is the fact you say that microsoft will rival wii games. This fact alone will keep the people who already have a wii ( and also the customer who microsoft think will buy kinect) away from Kinect:
“why would you buy a game twice?”, will they think.
The only benefit I see then in Kinect is your argument about media network, but then this question pops up: ” Is the purpose of the X-box 360 a hardcore game console with media options or a media console for the casual gamer?”
Let see what you guys think.
No I dont want something buggy, but when was the last time you got some new piece of technology that was pushing the box, that wasn’t buggy? Most of the people I know, don’t just have a wii, they have other systems. To me the wii doesnt even compute. No hd and the contollers suck if you are using them without the add on precision thing.(sorry Im not as versed with the wii lingo). The games for xbox will eventullly have some badass hd games that will look great. Which the wii could never have unless they start from scratch.
Well I think the xbox 360 has already taken the gold for hardcore gameing console with awesome media options. I convert all my blurays to wmv and stream them to my xboxs with very little loss of quality. Think if they use the kinect in conjuction with the controller. Say im playing COD and I want to reload, I could be using the controller, and just throw my elbow up and it reloads. or instead of pushing the left stick down to run you just move your feet up and down a couple times and it runs for a certain amount of time. It sounds dumb, but how i look at it is the more buttons the better! even if u look a little stupid doing it lol
on the issue of buying a game twice, i.e. you already have wii and wii sports. I think people will just put away the wii if they already have an xbox. If you cant tell by how ive been talking i dont own an wii, but my roommate does. At first we played it alot, then it just got old. We would always be like alright, same stuff. Lets play COD or BF2 or even forza. When it came down to it. The only games we played were wii sports and mario cart. Eventually it just never got played bc we are hardcore gamers if you want to call it that. Now if xbox had the same thing as wii sports, which we played more than any other game, I would (if I owned one) be more than happy to sell it. IMO the wii takes up space and inputs on my tv. If I could get the best things from the wii (wii sports and motion controlers) in the xbox 360, Why have the wii. Other than wii sports and the motion controller what does the wii offer that xbox doesnt?
I am more pointing out that the target audience of Kinect is not the hardcore gamer, but the people who already have a wii. I don’t say the hardcore gamer won’t buy Kinect but that is not their target audience. And here comes the problem for Microsoft: that audience will see the wii games (they own them) and the kinect games ( yeah i know better graphics) and what do they conclude: ” I already have that game, why should i spend 300 dollars on the same thing”.
Ofcourse I am now looking more at the business perspective, most hardcore gamers don’t see nothing at all in Kinect and Move, but I think Sony is more focussing on the hardcore gamer with the Move, what I think is the best option because, like I said, the other market has already a wii.
very true, Ill like to see how sony takes this “Move”. btw very good argument, I was really surprised that some immature guy didnt leave some hateful comment. Not saying this site has any, just that when someone comes into a forum and disagrees, usually somebody will hate. Thanks forthe debate and smart responses. You know this debate really reminds me of 3d, with people already owning nice flat screens and now they are trying to push 3d flat screens. Its sort of similar. Some people think they are to expensive and wont catch on and then the other side people saying it will. who knows all in all I think everything weve talked about should be cheaper, I’m betting there will be a sale somewhere when the kinect comes out but it will still probably be 150 with tax.
In the spirit of DK I’d like to say that this price just doesn’t Kinect with me. It’s way too much for a product so many people are unsure about.
Fuck no!!!!!!! Maybe if the price was something that I could just jump in I might of been able to convince myself enough to try it but for 150 dollars I’m staying away like it had the plague I’ve already got the Wii, it’s the only thing I can get my girlfriend to play and I am content with that.
if they had some freaking good games it would be better than sonys
Really?

The fact that it is 100% impossible to have reliable and decent 3D support for this (the kinect is only 1 camera, not 2) compared to the PS Move (which is the same/similar price) makes this a fail.
you should really start looking things up before you emberras yourself.
and on the other hand, i’m probably going to buy it at that moment that they release an actual core-title. no party, no minigames, something real to work with. maybe that REZ-followup. looks nice.
The price is like a kick in the balls, so the experience has to be like a sexy female nurse for it to work for me.
