Hey everyone, DK here wishing all of you well and kicking off this week’s Member Battle Cries here on EpicBattleAxe.com. As always, you can sound off on ANYTHING that you want here in the Member BattleCry section…You’re completely free to rant and rave as you see fit, but per the norm, I like to get things started by kicking off each week with a question.
Now, anyone who watches our video podcast knows how we feel about Microsoft’s Natal. Instead of remaining negative though, I think it’s in the best interest of gamers to be proactive and attempt to inspire the development community with our ideas. We discuss this very topic on Skirmish 060 of EpicBattleCry and now I pose this question to you as part of this week’s Member BattleCry:
WHAT ARE YOUR GAMING IDEAS FOR MICROSOFT’S NATAL?
I think most hardcore gamers would agree that, while somewhat exciting, Microsoft has thus far failed to inspire us by SHOWING US what Natal is capable of. Hopefully our ideas will feed off one another and help inspire Microsoft and the game devs themselves. After all, we are the intended audience (well, mostly) and the ones who can help shape the future of interactive entertainment. As always, We’ll be selecting one post each day to feature as the Member BattleCry and then highlighting the Member BattleCry of the Week, which will be featured on the next skirmish of the EpicBattleCry video podcast.
OK gang, that’s all for now…Put your thinking caps on and let us hear whatcha got!

My battle cry for the week goes to RTS-genre. I think with accurent and pin point ability to, well, poke at the camera you can send your army to the places you want to go perfectly and pan out and build up your army. Any RTS can then truelly be on the consoles. Dont get me wrong, Halo Wars did a nice job of getting an RTS to work on the console, but with NATAL it could really work flawless, maybe even more acurate then dare I say on the PC. NATAL can then work just like the RUSE table only then way cheaper
and even usable
(Do you see us gamers for the couple of years being able to pay that kind of money for that, though very cool looking, table)
Then the RTS also works on the console and maybe even better.
My Battle Cry, or Ideal game for Natal would be integration into the Star Wars IP, obviously using a lightsaber in some way. Using your hands as if you were swinging a lightsaber on the Wii was what made the game IMO more fun than on the other consoles at times. The game might have to be modified to a first person perspective, and movement put on rails for it to be fun, but actually being able to aim something like force lightning to take out a guy on the second level or throw a lightsaber with pinpoint accuracy would just be badass. What would be great here is if the Jedi Knight series returned to it’s FPS roots, just think Dark Forces 2 in 1080p. All in all, for Natal to be a success I think it needs to at least start in more esoteric or fantastical titles to be absorbed by the hardcore gamer.
My Battle Cry goes out to Angry Video Game Nerd. AVGN is one of the funniest videos i have ever seen. Just the way Mr. Rolfe rips into these old games is awesome. All of his reviews and points are right on the dot.I say this because i have actually experienced some of the games he has reviewed(batman forever is one) and ive had the same reaction when i decided to just play it again to see how bad it really was after seeing him review it. I know i didnt follow the Natal theme but i just couldnt think of anything at all that made sense. Which gave me an idea that once this comes out maybe AVGN could make a video on how terrible it is! He can finally show us some REAL ENTERTAINMENT Right guys?
[...] kicking off another week of Member BattleCries here on the ‘Axe. So, as you may have seen, this week’s topic starter is asking you to sound off on your ideas regarding Microsoft’s Natal. What would you like to [...]
My Epic Battle cry natal edition.
I think it would be a great idea to use natal in an RPG. Not for moving ur character around and waveing ur arm to throw a spell. But talking, yes we all know that the Milo demo was rigged. But it would be intresting to have conversations with the NPC in the games, atleast to some degree. It would kinda be like Mass Effect but u don’t pick from a dialouge tree. I personally would love to be able to talk to a character like Wrex. Witch is why I hope Bioware might consider useing Natal in the unforseen future (I know there is no way they will use it in Mass Effect 3 but if they made a new IP?).
Here is my Epic Battle cry. You want one game that Natal was created for? That one game (and it hurts my soul to say) is DDR, yes Dance Dance Revolution. Everything today is dancing, from american idol to dancing with the stars. Hell my mom loves dancing shows. Personally I wouldn’t buy it but it would be a hit because not only could it use upper body movements but it probably could teach people basically how to dance and proper dance moves. You want to sell a game to a legion of teeny boppers there it is, it is simple and it fully optimizes Natal. PS. It could be a REVOLUTION for Natal. Go Canada
My Battle cry for the Natal is this, I follow much of your guys thinking in that the Natal is going to bring down gaming as a whole if not be a drop in an ocean that goes entirely unnoticed. Alas it will come out, people will buy it, and I will hate them for a long time. However if Microsoft or a game developer, specifically Lionhead Studios, could do something to bring this massive critic to play on the natal, would be to build a new game of the same vein as Black & White, or Evil Genius the kind of games where I don’t have any real interaction with the world more of a vague manipulation (Less so with Evil Genius more to do with Black & White.) The mouse controls and other mechanics for Black & White were very frustrating for me to play with. Trying to make the symbols on the ground and such to cast a spell especially the more complicated ones was so annoying. I think that is where the Natal could come in and perhaps make the game better. THAT is something we should look to the Natal and other motion controls for. NOT a revolution in gaming. Motion controls and specifically the Natal should look to filling the gap where other controls have fallen short, and in doing so inspire people to create new, yes, NEW IPs and ideas. Don’t try to overthrow what already works.
As for something not to do don’t release a first person shooter for the Natal it I for one at least can’t wrap my mind around it. The only real thing I would ever want to take away from a game like that would be to feel like I’m holding a rifle or sword or whatever and if you were to implement the mechanics in such a way to be “holding” the weapon how then would you manage moving or anything like that? Rails? NO, as much as I enjoy a rail shooter at the arcade (which I do) keep them in the arcade, it’s what makes it still worth while to drop quarters in a machine at a movie theater.
In summary
The good: being god and casting fireballs on villages with your own hands not finicky mouse controls.
The bad: trying to take what already works perfectly fine and fuck it up.
P.S. If a company wants to earn my forever love an adoration (of which Bioware already has) bring Dungeons & Dragons to the gaming world. I would love to be able to hop onto Xbox live or on my PC and play the real pen and paper conversion of D&D with my friends or even some people I don’t know.
P.P.S. You guys rock.
My Battlecry for Natal is a game idea that doesn’t fall into a common genre in gaming. Natal games used for the superhero genre. With the release of Arkham Asylum last year, potential for superhero games is evident. Using the technology of Natal, you could be able to fight thugs and villains like you would in real life. Also, in order to use superpowers, like heat vision, physical actions such as putting fingers to your temple could cue the powers to work. It would overall allow comic book geeks everywhere to feel superhero without having to mash buttons.
My Epic Battle Cry, though it may not be of natal, it is in the same spirit of new gaming technologies, its the new income of gaming companies pushing 3D technology as the super “immersiveness” of the 3d enviornment. Im just saying that to be honest, do we really need 3D gaming, what can make gaming more immersive, 3D? Personally the immersiveness of the game depends on the story, characters, setting, and fun factor, making the game 3D through my television will not make me feel any more immersed in the world if the story sucks donkey ass and the gameplay eats Dk’s best friend, Reggies’ poo. so in summary until, like natal, 3D is shown to be intergrated into the experience, its just another gimmick
Epic Battle Cry for Natal:
Head Tracking. Sony has shown interest in pursuing 3D through stereoscopic emulation on the Playstation 3, Microsoft can answer by using Natal, not necessarily as an input device, but as a means to deliver 3D content, without the glasses to a single-player first-person audience.
Please see:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd3-eiid-Uw
Umm…Natal? i dunno, i can imagine a game where you conduct an orcherstra, but i can also see that sucking. TBH i really can’t imagine a decent application for Natal that can’t be done already by other means. the whole point is depth perception on the Z axis, where X/Y are traditionally catered for where we have a VDU which runs vertically and horizontally.
i know we have 3D in gaming already but it’s only synthasized in so much as it doesn’t extend beyond the screen and certainhly isn’t palpable.
OK now. Just putting this out there.
3D like Sony has spouted about in the last few wk/mnths is as much of a joke amongst core gamers as Natal but i can imagine both of these techs combining to offer the best of both worlds. that said, i’m still at a loss as to how this can create a truely meaningful and viseral experience. perhaps a game called Nuclear Rod Technician or some shit.
Seriously, it’s all a conspiracy. MS and Sony are going to offer this new tech in a few years and merge to become an even giant-er corporation that will topple Nintendo. Seriously.
incidentally, to one of the guys above, APPARENTLY (could be BS) the PSeye will get a software update in time round when the motion controllers will be released that will enable head tracking. i heard rumours that GT5 will incorporate it. it sounds crap anyway, but i think we’ll see that unless there is profound movement on the Z axis as I said above, most things can be done with a single lens camera. another thing to consider, if you can be fucked, is that the PSeye mics are actually pretty tight. it has a four-way array that can detect direction (to a degree) as well as sound.
People who think Natal is going to offer an entirely unique experience that no-one else can match are pretty far off the mark.
I’m pretty pissed at the ammount of publicity Natal is getting at the moment. if you think about it, Sony’s tech demo at E3 ’09 for the motion controller was better that Natal’s expo and has come in for far less derision and the fact they’re are (?) releasing it about 6 mnths before Natal shows they’re ready to go with this. that said, i think that’ll suck too.
I know it’s not wise to believe everything Wiki says but http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Eye
Well there are games that can be easily thought up with this device. A Lightsaber game among uses in card games and RTS are very obvious. I hope developers remember that consumers love content. A fighting game for example is about how many and how good characters, stages, moves, ect. are in the game and natal won’t change that.
My battle cry goes regards natal. While I think Natal is great for people that don’t have a Wii and want to the get their significant other/family into gaming. I think that Natal has to be really well integrated for the hardcore gamers. If I can’t sit on my couch with a controller and play games…then Natal can suck it. I have no problems holding my hand up to tell my squad in rainbow six to hold position like you guys mentioned in Skirmish 60. That’s cool. But if you have a girlfriend/wife/whatever that thinks gaming is stupid and would rather you not do it. Buy Natal. Show them that “hey I can do this type of game. Its fun.” Then sit and watch as she makes an ass out of herself playing ricochet. I think its an even better “gimmick” than the Wii in that regard. Just don’t f*** up the games I wanna play sitting on my couch, by making me stand up and pretend like I’m holding a gun.
Natal Idea: 3D TV a la headtracking.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd3-eiid-Uw
If its true Natal can tell the location of your eyes, (Which I think a lot of digital cameras can do now) It could change the perspective of the displayed image depending on from where your looking at the screen. No glasses needed but would only work for one person at a time. This potentially could turn any TV into a 3D TV.
They have to be already working on this, but I havent head anyone talk about it.
-Yup someone beat me to it
My Battle Cry goes out to developers out there who resist the temptation of mainstreaming games to appeal to a broader audience. Too many games with great potential are ruined these days because they fallen to popularity of the Action genre and tuned to a more casual market. One example of this is Resident Evil 5 which has great graphics, interesting story and coop gameplay but lost the survival horror vibe, the resource managing and practically everything that made the franchise unique. Another example would be Final Fantasy XIII, a graphically stunning could be fantastic sequel to a revered gaming legacy, but completely destroyed by action focused automated combat, limited character customization and the lack of party control, not even on a gambit level. It is times like this that Games like Dragon Age (PC Version), Batman: Arkham Asylum and Demon Souls who aren’t afraid of the niche market and the challenging and rewarding gameplay that really stands out.
My battle cry goes out to the ****storm that Natal might bring gaming-wise.
Every five seconds you hear how motion controls are the future of gaming, yet you never hear how they’re gonna make these games work for a system like Natal.
Sure, it has motion and vocal controls, but how do you translate pressing buttons and analog movements into wild ass waving and whacking of your arms and legs worthy of a YouTube video?
Infact, seeing as how Microsoft seems to be hellbent on making this Natal business huge; How long will it take before FOX News is reporting “Man found wounded in home with his leg impaled in his LCD TV while attempting to play Command & Conquer 3 on X360″?
I can tell you a very easy use. for Card games like Yu-Gi-Oh or Magic just let players draw cards and play them with their hands like they would in the tabletop game. I believe the best way to improve a game is by adding more content whether it be characters, areas, modes, ect. Developers sadly like to use this as DLC because they know its worth enough for people to pay for it.
Hey guys chicken here,
Just wanted to add my own thoughts to this conversation.
I just have to begin with saying that Natal is not the future of all video games. I have to agree with what the guys here on EBA are saying about how the controller is still the best way of playing games. As they and others have said, “If it ain’t broke, why change it?”
The controller is still the quickest and easiest way to communicate to our games, in the same way that the wheel is the best way to drive a car and a flight stick is to a fighter jet. (Although I’m sure Microsoft is trying to sell this same gimmick to the military… Every time i see a military commercial i see some kind of natal like toy in the commercial from maps to control panels.) I see a disturbing image of a jet fighter pilot trying to fly his jet with hand waving and voice commands.
Besides the point that waving your hands all the time to perform commands is annoying, it can also be very tiring. Natal and other Natal like technology is coming and there is nothing we can do to stop it but I can also see how it can be a good thing to have for some circumstances. Those circumstances should be integrated into short moments of communication.
I love the ideas that some of our other axeheads have brought to the table with ideas on how to use Natal. I love the lightsaber/star wars powers idea(that Moose0487 added) and I can see how that would be great. However, that game would still be best if it used a controller for most of the gameplay and then using the powers in short moments of gameplay. After watching that leaked video of the guy playing halo with natal. Just walking around would wear me out, imagine how much hand motions you would have to do to fight with your lightsaber, cast powers and make your chracter move. Unless this game is set on rails I would not enjoy that. The reasons why it worked on the Wii is because you still had that controller to use the joystick to move around, while freeing up a hand to wave around to use powers and the saber.
Another cool idea that an axehead (TimOverkleeft1986) brought up, was the its use on RTS games. I personally love this idea. I have been highly interested on the game ruse and have seen how great it can work using the Microsoft Surface. I can definitely see how this idea could work on a Natal.
(Bacbi’s) idea on how the voice application of Natal can work with NPC’s to communicate is by far my favorite idea I have read. He also pointed out how he hopes Bioware would use this on a future game. If anyone could turn this into a reality is Bioware, Although I am sure that Peter Molyneux will feature this on a future fable game that will be the bases for others to follow (It is his vision after all).
While thinking for my own ideas on how Natal should be used I started to see a a vision of some of the old school point and click adventure games, like Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, Space Quest could re-emerge using this technology. Using Natal as a means to point to where you want your character to move and using the voice application to communicate to NPC’s to investigate for clues. You could even use it to solve puzzles which brings me to my point on why it would be great to use Natal for short gameplay moments in other genres and games.
My very first thought on how I saw Natal working for games when I first heard of Natal was for puzzles. I instantly thought about games like Silent Hill, BioShock, Grand Theft Auto and some other games in where there are often awkward moments in gameplay where you are trying to figure out puzzles and wish you could just reach in and do it with your own hands. I could see how it would be great to have Natal as the application running that could help you solve the puzzles in the game. Puzzles could even evolve with Natal because they wont have to be confined by what a controller can or cannot do. In other words you don’t have to spin the joystick or tap a certain sequence of keys to solve the problem or even to open a door. Instead just reach out and quickly solve it with your hands and get back to the controller to continue gameplay.
As to what DK said on the show about how Voice commands were cool when it was first introduced is a very valid point to bring up. I think we have only scratched the surface of how voice can be implemented into a game to help enrich your experience. Again, I don’t think it should be the sole backbone on how you play the game but it should be implemented wisely, with the controller still being the backbone. As the Milo technology becomes a little more refined, I think we could possibly see a future in how voice is used in mostly every game. As a way to communicate with NPC’s and NPC communities.
Any feedback to this post would be greatly appreciated. I want to know what you guys think about what I have said. I am open to criticism so that I can possibly see how Natal will actually play out.
Thanks for reading,

Hello guys I have a question. I was not alive 20 years ago and I was not around to buy old PC games. They dont sell games such as fallout 1 and 2 anymore at my local bestbuy or anywhere. Where can i acquire these good old PC games?
My Epic battle cry concerns the possible dark side of natal. As we have seen throughout the history of gaming there comes along games that are questionable. One such example is Leisure Suit Larry. Imagine for one instance that it was to come out on project natal. Would this mean that we would be thrusting the air during explicit scenes…. Finally people would get to have virtual sex… I laugh at the thought of this. I know this is obsure but games have adapted sex into games (mass effect) as part of the story. Would they make the use of natal for this?
My battle cry goes to video games’ potential for deep involved experiences, and the potential that Natal has to greatly enhance such experiences.
Not too long ago I posted a BC about Persona 4, and further commented on the level of involvement P4 brought to the table with it’s approach to the RPG elements of the game.
I mention this because I truly believe that Natal would benefit from an experience of such an immersive nature.
By what I’ve seen it really looks like Microsoft is trying to turn Natal into some sort of a “living room family app” to rival the Wii. I hope I’m wrong T_T
The concept of Natal could catapult gaming into such a complete, well rounded experience that goes beyond the level of involvement you get from current consoles that it would be a shame to see Microsoft fuck it up.
I mean, it’s basically just another form of motion control. And that’s the crux of the matter. The success of Natal is not gonna be so much about how Natal is used, as much as how good the games made for it are.
If we see games of a seriously high caliber, from genres that could greatly benefit from this little gizmo, such as RPGs or FPSs, or even RTSs, Natal could very well revolutionize, or at least heavily influence which way tech development goes in the next few years, both for consoles and for games.
So to all prospective Natal game developers. For the love of god and all that’s holy, please, look past the gimmick of it, look past the fact that yes, it’s a fucking motion capturing/sensing camera, and instead of trying to find ridiculous ways to use it and building a shitty game around it, please, deliver us solid games. Because in the end, it doesn’t matter how you control the characters on the screen: No amount of motion sensing awesomeness will ever ever, ever make up for a piece of shit game built around it.
This could very well be our generation’s Power Glove.
My Battle Cry goes out to using natal to point out enemies, objectives, or key things in shooters. i mean how many times do your AI teammembers stand right next to enemies and do nothing? and yes you could blame that on poor AI but it’s an idea.one could also use natal for a paperweight or decoration, it’ll be like my wii racing wheel. yeah i got it but it just sits on my shelf…c’mon besides using your entire body, what else is there nobody will spend hours jumpin around lookin silly. i think natal is a good idea but it might be hard to satisfy gamers in casual use.
My EBC goes out to half working developers. The kind who do something stupid to piss off a fanbase. Anything from milking a series, to lousy cross-console ports, to just plain stupid thinking.
Specifically I’d like to point out NATAL. Yes, it COULD be a great thing for games, but only on the 360. If it’s integrated into games, it should only be for 360 exclusives. If webcams and the Playstation Eye aren’t capable of reading motions, then what happens when a game like Call of Duty or another major title uses Natal for some feature and it can’t be done on PC or PS3? It leaves non-360 gamers in the dust and most devs will be too lazy to map movements to a keyboard/controller button.
Natal Battle Cry: Natal is another controller targeted to the casual player. At the end it will come to the games, Im mostly sure that third party developers will try to make another boom bloxs or Wii sports game. People keep saying “I don’t wanna play Modern Ware fare with Natal” when the reality is that you will not. Nintendo saw the market(people that go to Dave and Busters)and then emulated that with a gimmicky controller. My arms get tired just for playing Wii boxing, now jumping like a monkey to touch virtual balls is just Epic Retardation! Once the hype is out of the way, hardcore gamers will play with something that enhances the experience, and your mom will play “Toss my Salad” for the Wii, Xbox 360 and ps3
My Battle Cry goes to using Natal sort of like Wii Sports at least for one sport and that is DODGEBALL! There are some dodgeball games out there and they are pretty fun but if you utilize the Natal with actually dodging the balls instead of kicking them like in the demo they should us. Add a little online play where you have a team and against another I personally think that would be fun. Another game that just popped into mind would be Road Rash. You bend your wrist back to make the bike go and lean left and right to make the bike go left and right and you have to do the swinging motions for the various weapons as if you were actually in the race.
Another EBC it actually has to do with the region lock. Ok what the FUCK is wrong with the people today thinking that the only fans of animes and gundam in peticular because Hey i like gundam (O hey! he said the title! [Family Guy joke, sorry]) anywho like Mobile Suit Gundam: Operation Troy i’ve been waiting for it since the trailer first came out on gametrailers.com and when it finally came out it was on in Japan. Not only does that wack but it’s unfair to the loyal fans across the world.
My Epic Battle Cry Goes out a game like Heavy Rain on Natal, Heavy Rain essentially is a long running quick-time event with some free roaming here and there, as far as I know and it seems like an extremely nice concept especially because of it being story driven. Although wouldn’t it be nice if instead of some stupid button press or an analog twirl, or even worse a waggle motion you move your head to avoid a swing from a crow bar or kick out you leg to push someone away or swing you fist to punch someone in the face and maybe since Natal has a mic, it’ll have like an option like an RPG, similar to Alpha Protocol where they have instead of a responce written out for you to choose it has three “types” or response I believe one is “aggressive” and I can’t remember the other two. But you can say “aggressive” after an NPC calls you a cunt and then your character will retort by with a threat or a gun to the face.
My Epic Battle Cry goes out to guitar hero and Resident evil games on the Natal, I think it would be awesome if the player could air guitar during the game with Natal and have every note hit like you have an invisible guitar in your hands just faming like most people do when they’re listening to badass music like enter the sandman. I also thing Resident evil games for the Natal would be epic as well, just the mere fact that you point your finger at a zombie and put the finger back and see the zombies head explode is awesome. Feeling like god and being able to snap your fingers and watching a guy’s head explode is awesomer. Even Final fantasy games would be cool on the Natal, hell swinging a pretend sword and seeing your guy in the game swing his makes you feel like you’re actually in the game. It’s like awesomeness between an epicenes sandwich.
My Epic Natal Cry goes to Star Wars force powers (and magic spells alike).
It would be awesome to play something like The Force Unleashed with both Natal and a normal controller. You would use the controller for all of the regular stuff like walking, jumping etc, but you could use Natal (optionaly) for force powers like push, pull and lightning. You could even make your own sound effects to create more powerfull attacks.
“oooOOOHHH *Thrusts hand towards screen* PPPFFFFOOOOOHHH”
My Epic Battlecry goes out to the Project Natal hardware itself.
We have all seen that Natal is able to use voice commands as well as the movement controls. But what I am curious about is whether or not gamers will be able to use this as a communications device in any game, meaning headsets becoming obsolete. This would save me a lot of hassle in broken mics and the need to charge my wireless mic way too often.
Hey Guys. My Battle Cry for NATAL goes out to RPGs. I believe that NATAL integration into RPGs would work. THe customization pages could use NATAL well. I also think the movie Gamer shows how things could work for a shooter game. If you guys saw the movie it was mostly about what the future of gaming could be(NATAL). So I think customization games like RPGs and RTSs could work.
My Battle Cry goes to Nolan North, and how I honestly believe 2010 is the year we as a gaming community slowly begin to turn on him. As made obvious by his work in the Uncharted games, he is a very talented man with a great voice, but talent must be in short supply these days because he’s in EVERYTHING. He’s in Assassin’s Creed, Prince of Persia, Halo Wars, Shadow Complex, Dark Void, Uncharted, Halo ODST,Alpha Protocol, etc, etc, all as leading roles and it is getting re-freakin-donkulous.
No offense to the fellow, but when I’m hearing the same voice in every game I play it breaks the 4th wall and yanks me right out of the experience. Developers need to take a step back and when it comes to picking their voice cast, instead of taking the “me too”, “hey it worked for them” approach, find some new talent to create the variety industry demands for survival.
(PS. Seriously, take a look at this guy’s IMDB profile, it’s ginormous)
I heard Rare was developing Natal games, so for my EPIC BATTLE CRY I thought of a way to add it into something like Banjo Kazooie. Basically the game controls like the traditional Banjo Kazooie games, you go from world to world doing platforming, puzzles, ect. to get jiggies. But every world uses Natal differently. So in one world there may be a jiggie mini game challenge that impliments Natal, in other worlds it could effect the entire area. Say one world takes place inside a giant box, at the click of a button the camera shifts to Natal mode where you can flip the box around, thus turning the world upside down or on it’s side. Or how about a world that is litterally broken up into puzzle peices, and before or during a level you can mix and match them to solve puzzles or set up platforming sections.
My Epic Battle Cry goes out to the developers making games for Natal. In all honesty, I don’t have much faith in it, but those companies willing to experiment and make games based on Microsoft’s new add-on are definitely devoted to video games, and as gamers, those are the companies that we should be paying attention to in the long run.
I personally think a fantasy MMORPG for Natal would be interesting to see, I always wondered how that would work, 2 years ago, i thought, Hmm probably it’ll work with the “Wii Suit!”. but then Natal came out, Like you could have a party, healer, DPS, Tank, Etc. And The Natal Camera could sense certain movements that you do and it appears on screen, and for special moves, the game could memorize certain moves to execute special attacks, For example, a mage casting their meteor storm special could perform 5 different moves and it triggers the special. The archer would sound fun, because the game has to represent how far and hard you shoot in real life, so you have to pay attention to wind direction, angle, and how hard to pull. And to Run, you run in place, the faster your leg movement, the faster you move,( sounds retarded, but it doesn’t look that retarded when i stood up and tried it
) This could be a step to really be a real ‘MMORPG” Also maybe a FPS as well, i saw your footage, on the Half life for Natal, I think it would be cool if the Natal Camera sense things more realistically, for example holding a shotgun, pistol, grenade launcher etc. And instead of using your hands to look around, the camera can sense the direction your head moves and the screen changes based on the position of your head.
I think a genre that Natal could REALLY flourish in is *gasp* the survival-horror genre. In a nutshell, Natal could make slower paced horror games based more on atmosphere than action great again.
Obviously, survival-horror games are only successful if they manage to immerse the player enough to where they feel like they’re actually in these terrifying situations and gain some sense of fear. I think Natal could bring this to another level where YOU are actually the character moving through the haunted house. Imagine having that classic Resident Evil or Fatal Frame sense of dread from slowly pushing the door open not knowing what’s waiting in the next room. Or shining your flashlight around the blood spattered walls to find the mangled body your alone in the room with slouched on the floor. “Did he just move?” Or having to shove your hand in that dirty toilet to retrieve the key to the next area (ahh Silent Hill 2). I’ve seen a little of this idea in “The Grudge” game coming out for the Wii, but I believe Natal could succeed even more so in this area.
My Battle Cry, like so many others I’ve talked to about is basically to integrate the natal with games, so even if you didn’t have the natal it wouldn’t restrict you from enjoying a game. An example of this and I’m going to take it from Mass Effect 2 is basically integrating things such as the galaxy map or the hacking mini game.
Basically I see a lot of potential with natal that has to do with the hud, like deciding on what equipment to wear, attachments in the game I am taking this from Conviction but like a gesture to bring your NV goggles on, throw a grenade or even put on a silencer for your pistol.
I believe motor function will always be best on a keyboard and mouse or joystick.
Full Natal integration would be impossible with games that people want it to be used with, flat out. There is simply no way you can incorporate movement, aiming of a gun, jumping and shooting onto your body without utilizing a holographic simulator room or a rolling pad of some sort for your feet. Call of Duty requires you aim a gun, shoot it, jump, reload, and MOVE. Two hands could accomplish all the things in any shooter except moving. Therefore, I have come to the conclusion that Natal would be best suited to revive the light gun shooter.
Time Crisis, House of the Dead, and even Jurassic Park were all simply phenomenal games in the arcade, incorporating fun mechanics and cover (and with newer games, unlock-ables). There is no reason why these same mechanics would not work with Natal. I can even bring up a game in the arcade, Police 911 I think it is called, which does exactly this, and it is fun. Natal would even make room for people to play in the same room in this manner. You could remain seated and fully enjoy the game. I feel that using Natal in this manner would be not only fun for consumers, but actually a rather easy thing for game developers to incorporate.
My battle cry goes out to the fact that there are no good ways to use project Natal. Most people play games to have fun, and nobody has fun coming home from eight hours at a dead-end job to stand in front of their TV and flail around like an epileptic in a lightning storm.
This also comes down to the major fundamental flaw with motion controls themselves, and that is that there’s no physical feedback. No matter how intuitive and creative they get with it, you’ll never feel your fist hit the guy’s face, you’ll never smell the gunpowder wafting from your sniper rifle after you made the perfect head shot, and you’ll never, EVER sample the sweet taste of victory while you’re subconsciously aware that you’re playing with something that’s basically a rip-off of someone else’s IP. Your actions in this world may be affecting what’s going on in theirs, but without any sort of response to your actions, the whole experience ultimately ends up feeling empty.
Seriously: screw the Wii, screw project Natal, and tell Sony to take their motion controller and shove it. Let’s forget this whole “motion controller” thing ever happened so we can move on to the next amazing innovation like virtual reality, or…………………………………………………..edible controllers?
One place you can find those two games is the site that EBA pimps out at the end of every EBC podcast http://www.gog.com. I just searched those games on there and they have them for 5.99 each. If you dont like gog, im sure you can find it on other sites like steam or fileplanet.
My Battle Cry goes out to Black 2 which according to a Criterion developer, was going to be their next project after they finished Burnout Paradise. With Paradise now finished for about 2 years, Black 2 seems nowhere to be found. I hope they don’t decide to ditch Black, as a sequel has great potential to do well. The first Black was a blast and one of my favorite games; it was also quite unique and groundbreaking for a last-gen game. I keep hoping to see it at the next E3 and each year its not there.
My battle cry for Natal is I understand that M.S. wants to start off with the training wheels on, but Gamers want something worthy for us to sink our teeth in…. So I say a Tron game, a new movie around the corner and that would be a cool to see a good Tron game adding the fact you’ll able to totally immerse yourself in the Tron universe??
Another cool was to show Natal would be to see a net-surfing game? Something along the lines of a Natal version of Rez or like all those cybe -movies Johnny Pneumonic for example the control would be simple hand gestures and if done people would play.
My Battle Cry goes out against Natal and the hype that will follow it launch.
We all know the media will go crazy about it but must we games fall for the hype as well?
Why don’t we appreciate the games we play first?
Sony has done so much this generation yet we all seem to ignore it
Did you ever stop to think of it? LBP created a new genre in gaming which Sony continues with ModNation Racers, Uncharted 2 created a cinematic experience like no other before, MAG with 256 online players!
Demon’s Souls, Heavy Rain and The Last Guardian are so unique each in their own way, but we all know will sell no more then 1-1.5 million copies which is a shame
My Battle Cry is for anyone who will be eventually disappointed by Natal. I hate to say it, but motion capture technology isn’t good enough for what most people think it can do. My friend as part of her PhD she used the latest in motion capture to study the movements of a elephant, which cost thousands and needed a hell of a lot more than just three cameras. Now unless Microsoft have completely revolutionized the field of motion capture I’m afraid all the ball bouncing “tech demos” might be close to the best you can get. Once again sorry everyone for being a killjoy.
See her work on this “delightful” TV show where they cut up an elephant:
[1/5] The Elephant: Inside Nature’s Giants HD
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kLavc70zBc
Oh and if it was good enough then I would want some sort of game where you get to control the mech-suit in District 9.
My Battle cry is for Natal idea I had as a game designer. Just a few brain storms. If in a RPG using the Natal solution, In order to walk, run, sidestep etc, do the following: Walking forward, assuming the camera has to scan you and get your default position. Standing straight is still. A slight lean forward is walking, a deeper lean forward is run, lean slightly backward is walk backwards etc. To sidestep is lean your body slight left or right. Spells can be cast buy a hand motion or voice activation/ both at once. Map or menus by voice. This way a person isnt physically running in their living room. If needed armor can be picked by picking with hands pointing at screen or by choosing with your voice. You could have characters pick up on tone of voice and phrases in conversations to have them react to it AKA like in the Milo vids if it worked based on emotional tone and not actually understanding what was being said in conversation minus pre-programed responses. Shooters could have the same commands for movement and have the hand gestures of holding a gun and shaking it like your firing to fire a gun. (imaging holding a tommy gun and making that movement, snipers take a sniper’s position and make the kickback movement with their body for the firing of the gun) For fighters like BlazBlue, or Tekken, Street Fighter… Im at a complete loss… LOL! Sorry, but natal will collect dust for those games. That’s what I came up with when it was first announced and hadnt gave Natal much thought since. Im more worried about the mountain of shovelware that will hit once it’s out.
My battlecry for the Natal goes to head tracking. I’ve had a chance to try a Freetrack device on the PC and, while not making a world of difference to mouse+keyboard only control scheme, it added a significant amount of comfort. If Natal was able to do this (to track the tip of the player’s nose, to be precise), it would make the FPS experience on Xbox better just enough so that every journalist that does a review of the next Call of Duty game points out that the experience on Microsoft’s console is superior to that on the PS3. And, let’s face it, that’s what Microsoft really wants.
Other than that, I’m pretty sure EA is going to put out a dozen workout games (compared to wiimote, Natal seems to be able to really give developers a sense of how hard a gamer is really working).
The thing that is going to sell this product, in my opinion, is Netflix. Seeing someone control their media with their hands, Minority Report style, just makes you (you the consumer, not you the gamer) want the same thing in your home. If they can detect when I’ve fallen asleep and turn the TV off a few minutes after, they’ve sold that thing to me.
Cry Havoc
My battlecry… where do I begin
They should fucking stop trying to move me irl, thats not gaming to me, just some way to push me to the gym.
When I come home from work/school, the last thing I would want to do is jumping and running in front of my tv. They already tried this with the WII and now they are taking it to the next level with Natal? Its pure fail waiting to happen. At least Sony knew when they needed to remove that SIXAXIS shit from the early PS3 games.
I would say, start moving things out of the screen instead of trying to move me into my screen. It doesn’t say WII-controller on my forehead.
Natal -> Trash can
My Epic Battle Cry goes to this Motion Sensing (NATAL) commercial wave hitting us as well as all these 3D TVs coming our way. The last thing I want to do after having worked 9 hours during the day is to come back home to play CoD: MW “whatever version it’s gonna be” and have to jump, crouch, prone, move my arms all over the place and jump behind my fricking couch to evade incoming fire! The idea of having 3D included where you could see RPGs coming at you and all is awesome but it should be optional. I mean, you’re gonna need to go for some Commando training at the local Army base 6 months before the games come out to be physically fit to play the game more than 2 hours and you might get bloody shellshocked and needing post traumatic stress counselling afterwards, this is getting real guys!
Although I like where the technology is going with NATAL and 3D, I feel that the days of being able to sit on a couch to relax and play 2-4 hours straight of a game are gone and possibly will alienate some gamers. Very Casual gamers who had no idea about gaming before the Wii and its innovation are gonna love it for the sake of it being new tech, but true gamers who look for more than new technology will be disappointed or hard to please.
Like playing as a Jedi with NATAL would be awesome or even Army of Two with a friend where you could cover each other with a sofa pillow as a shield would be brilliant but we should be given options not obligated. I’m still excited about where this new tech can take us but throwing paint in the TV is just not cutting it for me right now.
PS: I blame Tom Cruise and Spielberg in Minority Report for all this motion sensing and 3D evangelism.
Heres my Natal Battle cry,
I think it would be best if the games released supporting natal aren’t totally dependant on natal, but are natal enhanced. An example can be taken from the latest battle cry, with the hand signals for Rainbow six.
I think it would be awesome if you could talk during the conversations in Mass Effect instead of moving the thumbstick to the response you want to say.
With some rpgs, instead of switching to magic, you could use your arms, whatever to cast spells (if it was that type of rpg) instead of going through a million submenus to equip it and all that.
You can go the GT5 route (not sure if it was confirmed or bs) and have head tracking in racing games, while using a wheel controller (which in my opinion is more immersive than pretending one is there)
Basically don’t make a game where its either use natal or you cant play it (unless its the mini games like the painting or ball game)
Sorry if i want clear enough, its 1:35 am XD
Ps. Is it just me, or does anyone else think that Natal guy who wears glasses/hasbeard/long hair who tries to look hip, think he looks ridiculous?
1. Show my a Natal game where I DONT have to stand up and wave my arms around.
2. Show me a Natal game where I can sit on my couch and still play with my controller.
And I might be interested.
MY NATAL BATTLECRY:
I think it’s this kind of implementation which will get REAL gamers interested
It could be interesting play games like Bionic Commando or Spiderman with Natal…things like stop bullets with just a raise of your hand; or a game where you are a characther with some pseudo telekinesis power could be fun to. Sorry the bad English
My battlecry goes to the often overlooked Natal’s ability to pick up feedback from what the players are doing at the moment. Imagine how it could improve Horror/Adventure experience just with the simple fact that the software can establish which part of the screen you are looking at at any given moment. Huge potential for scaring a living shit out of you, or feeding you subliminal images, for example a shadow appears for a second on the part of a screen you are not looking at, and some weird sound comes from the speaker. Natal should be looked at as something more than just a motion control. It’s a piece of the hardware/software that can establish what position you are and what you are doing at any given moment, it can probably detect the light in the room. First time that a game can know what you are doing outside the game world – Imagine a game dynamically adapting to that.
My Battlecry goes out to Rockstar Games and the Grand Theft Auto series. I think GTA could be the ideal Natal game. A completely “Natally” game could never work, but if used just for the mini games and some special missions, I think it could turn out well. I recently played Chinatown Wars on my sisters DS, and I was stunned how the small minigames really added to the depth of the overall experience!I think R* definitely put this into consideration, when they start to develop the next game. But they should make the minigames optional, to please a larger audience.
Hi mate i know were you can get both off the “Fallout” games.
Fallout -http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/fallout
Fallout 2-http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/fallout_2
My battlecry goes out to Microsoft. As exciting as throwing paint onto a wall sounds, I thought I’d come up with a suggestion or two, ideas that aren’t as shit.
Let me play the lead role in an action game influenced by action movies of the 80′s and 90′s. I want to be able to do commando rolls and shoot bad guys with my finger pistols while yelling “pew! pew!”. Maybe even add a bullet time system that triggers when you let out a manly scream.
Let me also take the lead role in a dubbed martial arts film. I want the ability to scream unnecessarily and dub my lines as poorly as possible while pretending I know how to fight.
There you have it, the greatest idea ever conceived hands down, it is the ultimate gaming experience. What would you rather do with other people? Throw paint onto walls? Watch someone race a car and change their tires in the pit stop? Or…would you rather kick the motherlovin shit out of bad guys?
Idea for natal/PS3 wand…
simple, but effective…
MAKE MADDEN FUN AGAIN!
Why not use natal/wand to control the football in game, throwing, catching and movement can be picked up via the camera (and hand movement closely mimicked with the wand).
This will FINALLY add something different to the franchise and make it worthy of another release…not just a re-skin and TV camera angles
My battle cry goes to the developers of “army of two”. Its about damn time someone attempts to grab at the reigns of a sold co-op game on the current consoles, i think that the co-op idea is currently not taken seriously enough and that most game developers look at competitive multiplay as the only real form on online gaming.
A large number of games have some serious potential of co-op but it is left in the dark. Games like metal gear, splinter cell, all the way to dead space and aliens vs predator could support story based co-op, but no one cares to think of story based gaming for more than one person.
Army of two takes this a little further by trying something different with having the whole campaign be a possible co-op game. While it might not be the perfect game, i will buy this game simply based on the fact that i can play with a mate over the net and have a good time working together.
My Epicbattlecry goes out to identical protagonists in gaming.
I’ve just been watching reviews of Dark Void and couldn’t help noticing that Nolan North voices the lead character…again.
It made me aware that Will of Dark Void looks and acts exactly like the hero of every other third person action game around bar God of War and Bayonetta. It’s gotten to the point that you no longer feel like you’re playing as Salem/Rios in Army of Two or Nathan in Uncharted or Jason in Shadow Complex; instead you’re just playing as Nolan North the intergalactic adventurer.
Just gimme something original. Please.
My Epic Battle Cry concerns one of my very first thoughts when i first saw coverage about that NATAL. Although I have not seen anything serious like what you guys have been saying I think it has a ton of potential & Microsoft just needs to give devs all access to it. The First thing I thought of was how fun a first person RPG would be with this type of tech such as Fallout 3 or Oblivion. I especially think slashing up orcs or goblins with your own hands would be pretty sick if done well.
My Natal themed Battle Cry ponders on the love child of Natal and Heavy Rain. Having played Indigo Prophecy; which Heavy Rain looks identical to game play wise; I thought it was an interesting idea, but the one crutch of an interactive game-movie hybrid is the controller since quick-time events just make me feel like i should be playing Parapper the rapper. With Natal you could take that barrier away, you could even release content in small episodic chunks so you dont have to stand around like an arse for too long. How cool would it be that instead of just hammering buttons you had to quickly reach out and grab something or jump like a loon out of the way.
Ok its only one good use in an admittedly obscure genre, but its better than interfering with a little boy by a pond.
I’ve watched the last skirmish and the whole idea of implementing Natal into games like Rainbow6 sounds cool, but I don’t see how it can work in conjunction with a standard controller.
Raising ones hand to say “halt!” to members of your team is great insofar as Natal is the only controller you’re using. I don’t see myself letting go of the standard controller just to give some tacked on Natal command to the AI. This would be really uncomfortable. Putting a controller down to raise your hand is like standing in the open with your pants down… You can’t play like that.
I think it’s either 100% Natal support in a game or none at all. Gimmicks like standard controller + some Natal gestures just won’t work.
It would be uncomfortable to use Natal in this manner. Not fun and so much easier to push a button on a controller…
My battlecry of the week goes to the movie Gamer. Beacuse Porject Natal is trying to imitate the gamplay of the game played in the movie. For everyone that has watched this movie think about Microsoft, you know with a big boss that only wants money and mind control. I kinda think that this movie is an angainst Microsoft and Project Natal and I love that… Of course it wasn’t a great movie but who cares… Oh, I almost forget Natal sucks balls!!
My Epic battle cry concerns one of the first thoughts I had when I saw coverage for the Natal & all the potential it has if microsoft lets devs have all access to this piece of equipment. The first type of game I thought would be amazing to play with the NATAL would be 4sho a first person RPG such as fallout 3, Oblivion etc or any rpg for that matter.. that could have an option which puts you in third person lets you use the NATAL, otherwise you can just use a controller.
In thanks to recognizing my previous battle cry about the Legend of Dragoon.. Wouldn’t a sequel with a NATAL first person option make you lose your life for a couple weeks?! you are lying if you say you wouldn’t
ahah thanks again guys for noticing my previous battle Cry LONG LIVE THE LEGEND OF DRAGOON! need to get on ..what was it.. SCEI’s asses!!
also please disregard my last post, didn’t register before i posted it.. : also did i miss out on any gifts/rewards for the featured battlecry about the Legend of Dragoon because I didn’t register for that one?
My Epic Cry goes to Project Natal IDEA.
I think they should develop a game on how to teach users how to use the remote control and the xbox 360 game pad. Also a bonus mission mode with a mission to go in a virtual GameStop store and picking up a more superior PlayStation motion controller.
My point, is that Project Nata really needs some kind of a controller, since 360 controller is motion less, its pointless to put your hand in the air, (meaning your character in game will stop moving) and waving your arm around hoping for the best, while you might get killed in game because of these stupid actions. Like in the show mentioned, how the hell a person will play a HL2 game with hands in the air for many hours?
So PS3 motion wand is going in right direction, similar to wii, where you still have controlls by motion, but you can slack it a bit by having hands close to your body, or lowering them.
My battle cry goes to Microsoft and taking that extra step to market Natal in film. After watching the leaked HL2/Natal video I saw a very strong resemblance to the controls of future FPS games as was shown in the film “Gamer”, which, if I’m not mistaken, was produced by Microsoft’s Xbox. Despite if it’s a smart control mechanism or not, having that much belief in their system is a move that should be noted.
My Battle Cry goes out to Ubisoft Shanghai for Tom Clancy’s EndWar as an example that Microsoft’s Natal Developers should look to for smoothly integrating a new way of playing the game as opposed to replacing it. Voice control alone was considered too slow and the controller alone was considered too clumsy and unwieldy. Microsoft’s devs could try to use motion and/or voice controls to give 360 players a smoother RTS experience while allowing RTS’s on the 360 to be deeper and more complex. That way RTS players don’t ask “why not play a PC version?” and won’t need superhuman dexterity to effectively play.
my battle cry goes out tho young gamers.
a few episodes back you spoke about little kids playing voilent games.i as a little kid only playd learning games (yea i now that sukt)but i greatful for that.i have no kids myself but my sister has 2 of them.one 12 and one 19.at christmas the youngest got freaking cod:mw2.i was like “what hes way tho young for that”and my sister said he was playing those al the time.i was schoked(not from elecktricitie:)
it seems his brother traind him(he is a game reviewer)but he schoud now that it coud be bad for the kid.
i spouk with the little 1 and i recommended some better games for his age.
now my sis is gratful for that so thanks EBA
that is wai i ask for the game age raters to inform parents and other poeple how it coud influence kids lives
sorry for not stiking tho the natal thing but i wanted tho write this earlyer but my computer crahed.so thanks for reading and greets from belguim
My BattleCry about Project Natal is if developers can simply implement something along the lines of the technology in the film Minority Report with menus, HUD displays, and even inventory. How cool would it be to play a game like Dead Space which already had the cool idea of making pretty much the entire menu/inventory appear 3-D, and to be able to cycle through it with your hands like Minority Report. It could be fun as hell while still using the controller for normal gaming.
My battle cry for the week goes out to the smaller things in life. The things that sit back in the dark and make you feel better about yourself, like air conditioning. I think Natal should be used for small things, once in a while. I can’t imagine having fun for any period of time by kicking balls and, as stated on EpicBattleCry, “slapping paint on an elephant’s ass.” I think Microsoft should do us all a favor and have motion controls take a backseat to traditional controllers and use Natal to improve a game, not to have games lean on the gimmick.
My battlecry goes out to genre that in recent times has seen some great games, that could be made better if they were Natal-ised. What first came to mind for me when Microsoft revealed Natal was that using it with different comic book games would be amazing. X-men Origins: Wolverine was a great game, but imagine if it was in first person with you controlling his claws, ripping some poor family mans face away from his skull. Imagine grabbing out towards a building as Spiderman, then seeing him swing towards it, or sneaking up towards an Arkham inmate as Batman and bat-chopping his lights out, or even mincing your way into a gay nightclub as Robin,if you were so inclined.
My battlecry is to any motion system that can create a more immersive feeling to a game. The Natal has been paraded around showing video of possible games that run completely off the Natal. I think that some of the best ideas have already been done but with poor reception because of the technology, the idea of putting yourself in a game still appeals to people it just hasn’t been done right. Another idea is immersive controls to games, I’ll mention Mass Effect 2 for a current title, what if with a slight wave to the Natal you could make your Biotic throw go up and then crash on your enemies head just by waving up and then down. But these examples are to enhance a title that can stand on its own without the Natal. The Natal may have a larger audience in the Future but as I see it now the Technology could be used to enhance the experience that we know.
HEAD TRACKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!
Head Tracking is that idea that Johnny Lee came up with by using the wii to create a 3D environment by moving your head. I believe that the natal is capable of determining which part of your body is your head and creating the “Head Tracking” effect. I think this could be big.
Like any good cry to battle, my epic battle cry is short and to the point, What the hell happened to Dead Rising 2?
My battlecry goes to sport games especially fighting games and natal. A game i think should use natal is fight night and maybe ufc. If they managed to do it right then the game would be more fun. They should make it like wii boxing but more fun and be able to punch more freely. Not only will it be fun, you would learn have to box. The best thing about this is if you knock him out then you can teabagg without pressing a button EPIC WIN!!!
My member battle cry of the week goes out to microsoft and there fucking natal. How about instead of showing us tech demos of future pedafile games like that milo shit, why dont they show us more stuff like that half life 2 video that got leaked. I dont own a 360 and if theyre trying to get people like me to want to buy a 360 because of that natal crap theyre doing a really bad job.
My Battle Cry of the Week goes out to the possibilities for the rail shooter genre (is that a genre?). A time crisis or house of the dead with project natal could actually be really cool and fairly simple to implement easy use with natal. The best part about this would be how you switch weapons, instead of waving your arm around you actually change hand positions to how you would hold said weapon, and you would reload how the guns would reload as well. I believe this would be a lot more fun than say Half Life 2 without a controller.
Here’s the link for the Head Tracking Video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd3-eiid-Uw
Natal yadayadayada. OK. We need to talk Track IR5.
I believe we would all agree (once you see the videos) when I say that this weeks member battle Cry should go out to Natural Point and specifically the Track IR5. These days motion controls are all the craze and I think that what the TrackIR brings to the table is most definitely a huge step into complete immersion. It has been mostly appreciated in Sims for some time now, but with the tech today it is so intuitive that anyone can handle the learning curve in just a few minutes. Its also unintrusive to classic control schemes so we dont have to give up our mouse&keyboards and gamepad set ups that we have become so attached to.
We need more developers supporting this device. Arma2 is a great game that has expanded my perspective of what gaming is and when I saw it play with TrackIR I was sold…see for your self:
http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/02-products/product-videos.html
My battlecry goes out to Rare announcing that they will probibly continue to remake older games for XBLA. What a great way for their old franchises to make a reappearance in this gen of consoles…
In case you didn’t pick it up, that was sarcasm. How can a developer really kick themselves in the nuts and say, “You guys are right, we sucked ever since getting bought out by MS, so why not remake all the old games we were famous for in the past.” Listen, remakes of classic games is great and all, but Rare needs a big game they can call their own after the shitstorm they delivered so far. There is really no excuse for making shitty games, and remakes are not going to give them any credit.
It will be a sad day when 2 generations after MS bought Rare, that their best games were remakes, cause as you all expect Rare is probibly the main MS developer behind Natal, and I don’t think they can make shit for Natal if they can’t make shit for 360 as it is.
My Natal idea is to somehow get ATLUS to implement Natal controls to their trauma center games. The audio recognition feature can be used to tell the nurses which tool to give them, calling ‘clear!’ when using the defibrillator, which is kind of childish but cool, if Natal advances and the technology in Milo can be implemented anywhere, there could be a sequence where you tell patients if they are going to die or not, kind of harsh, I know, but it’s better than nothing. If they can incorporate Natal in the new upcoming Trauma team where they have 6 different types of medical team gameplay including driving an ambulance, there’s various possibilities where Natal can be used. It doesn’t have to be the trauma center games, just performing surgery with Natal seems possible and fun.
In regards to Natal I’m going to quote one of our forums members on what he said, which is both pretty close to a realization of the Natal potential and at the same time one of the most hilarious applications I could ever think of…here it goes:
Liquid said:
“I’m sure all those hentai game developers see a huge potential for Natal.”
Hands down bro, so true and hilarious at the same time. You deserve a gold medal for this.
My battlecry goes to non direct game contact with natal for serious gaming, but some great indirect contact.for example: the “SLAP” option to be unlocked after you complete MASS EFFECT 2 for the 1st time-from now on,every dialog that you find TOO LONG and annoying(about 89%) just wave your hand real quick to a direction of your choise and slap that asshole who thinks you care about him losing his parents and growing up as a lost child on the planet ZONG.
for even more advance users of ME2-the:”I dare anyone brake silence on the elevator” option, everytime someone starts small-talking about shit you dont care in the elevator make a quick mini “beat them the hell up” game with the henchmen of your choise.
even in other games the options are endless – suck on that microsoft.
Sup FooL
For my epic natal battlecry. After i have see the skirmish 60 when we see a guy playing halflife 2 i guest theres gona be no hardcore shoother like COD mw2 or *others* for natal but maybe some game like portal can be realy good, but there is no very need for natal because you can play this game with a standar controler. But a game like Rabbids form Ubisoft or wii sport i think is a very game for natal because u cant play this kind of game whith a controler .
but anyway we gona see in the future what they are gona do but for now totalCRAP.
and sorry my english if its not right =)
My battlecry goes to non-gaming application of Natal.
It’s obvious that it could potentially turn your Xbox a little bit more into a PC. And considering the huge deal they made with Facebook and Twitter arriving on the box, I guess the biggest new addition will probably be the arrival of Skype on the Xbox. after party chat, here come party video conference.
Appart from that, RTS and Star Wars put aside, Natal has NO gaming application that appeals to me. None. That my battlecry actually.
While NotAtAll interested in NATAL, I’d say it’s got a HUGE HIDDEN POTENTIAL: we’ve always been interacting with the games, but now we have the chance of a GAME INTERACTING WITH US. As the overpriced camera DETECTS where we are, where are we looking, the colours of our room, lights, et cetera, it’ll be able to adapt and surprise us with artificial intelligence feel-like. And no, I’m not saying being pedophile-ish with Milo.
Facial expression in some Fable III, maybe a gun with an analog stick where the hammer, and for God’s sake, implement a head movement in some car game to look to the side ‘cos every time I wanna’ do that it sucks.
OK, I realise I’m deliberately subverting the point here, but I have to get this off my chest. I believe the only USE Project Natal has for gaming is as an example of how commercialism is taking gaming out of the hands of gamers. Proof positive of that is Robert Bach’s “real entertainment” bullshit. That comment is the inevitable outcome when businessmen get involved, and through their arrogance, take a dollar intensive media they know nothing about objectively, and try to dictate its next “revolutionary” step, in accordance with what they believe is profitable rather than what their end user desires. Sure we can come up with great ideas for the implimentation of Natal, but thats because we ARE gamers, however, the disturbing truth behind all of this, is that actual developers aren’t creating anything that shows promise. Remember when Nintendo were working under the title “revolution” for the Wii? Well what we’ll end up with here is another ‘revolution’ that ends up more interested in getting you to go on a fucking diet than an adventure
My battle cry goes out to how the potential gaming leaping forward is high but what direction would they leap forward. One worry I have for it is that this could be heading towards controversy. This stems from the fact that the piece of hardware will be available to the independent developers to make games for but what games will some of them create action, racing or strategy games. No I feel that many will make interactive PORN games.
Since these games are available to everyone a twelve year old will download interactive kamasutra and play it. Then his/her mum will come in and see them “play” it. Once this happens all hell will break loose and we cannot defend ourselves against it as it is readily available.
Another problem I can see to it is nintendo syndrome where every game has to implement natal into their games. this could affect the quality of games as there would be stupid use of the natal support.
The final problem i will mention is that it could remove the controller from our hands and that would ruin gaming as it does not have any force feed back.
My Battle Cry goes to 2 things )) Pick any one you like, I just experienced both of them today.
Anyways my first Battle Cry goes out to fu$%ing GameStop… To make the story short, I will NOT be getting my PC beta for Bad Company 2 because of their stupid ass f%@ing policy of pre-ordering the game.
The story: I went ahead in December to pre-order the game (Limited Edition) for PC in the store, actually went to the store, made sure they reseved the right copy and left to wait the whole month for beta. At that time there was no official information HOW excacly beta keys will be given but it was said that GameStop will be giving them for sure to whoever preordered the game. So I did.
Comes today, I go to the DICE official website to check on news about BETA (8 days left) and whooila, people from all over the world posting the names of stores who provide Beta keys (just with preordering) and no sight of US GameStop or any other retailer…
SO I go ahead to the GS fucking website to read there, and I read about the PC version.. and it says ‘ Beta vailable for Online Customers only…’ and blah blah blah …
wtf.. I even decide to call to Customer Service to clarify that I do NOT have access to beta, and the chick on the phone sounded like she had no fucking clue what is going on, she just read from the web site. She sounded like someone from the fast food reading out the menu((
I mean, are you fucking kidding me? Why do people who spend time going to the actual store and ordering a game from the physical location have to get less advantage, not more, for doing so? This is soo retarded, and now I want to go to that store and smack the guy who told me everything is fine and i wil be getting beta.. Now I will have to spend gas again, go back, get my money back (hopefully those retards will give them to me), regsiter online on their stupid website, order it online, and freaking waste the whole day. awesome
My Second Battle Cry goes out to the topic of NATAL )) I have watched a movie with my gf called “The Gamer”. It was weird, but it seemed like people in the game there, one called “Slayers” and another called “Society” actually were using excact the same motion controller as NATAL, I wonder if that was on purpose, maybe they got some funds from Microsoft or accident, but it was the same engine.
The guys who were playing either shooter or Society were using their hands to move characters and shoot and do stuff. I think it was pretty cool. Go chekc the movie out and you will see what Im talking about))
My battle cry of the week, is supported by a furious battle-pose made possible in games by Natal.
This idea is probably outdated among the newer gamers, but imagine how freakin’ awesome Natal would work (assuming it picks up finger-movements) would work for a Myst-type game. You walk along, say, a bridge and you need to grip the ropes and sway along with the bridge to make it steady for you to walk. It gives some interactivity rather than pointing at the screen and going “hurr i shoot”. And imagine the depth in puzzles that could be done with using finger-movement and such.
Maybe, imagine an old-school phone. The one you spin. Still, assuming the Natal picks up finger-movements, you have to spin wheels like the phone-rings and spin them in a specific manner. Maybe it’s just me, but Natal gives alot of ideas to work with the Myst-series. But then again, I have no hopes whatsoever for Natal.
My battle cry of the week, is that the Natal is only limited to some games and are not supposed to be played ONLY by the natal controller on other games. The Natal is suitable for games such as, RTS games, sport games (tennis snooker etc) and random ball throwing at things games. My point is that it’s impossible to play fps games like, counter strike with it’s fast paced action or racing games like Midnight club LA. It will be interesting to see what Microsoft got in stock for future natal buyers. Im guessing it will be something like wii sports resort.
Keep up the awesome show! Cheers.
My Natal Battle Cry goes out to the potential of a 3D fighter maker. If anyone is familiar with the PSX/PS2 fighter makers by Enterbain, it allowed you to pick or edit a character and create an enormous movelist for that character. You determine each frame of the move using a 3D wire image of your character, controlling each individual joint. Now imagine the same basic idea, but using the Natal to record the movements for your character to perform. To be able to simple act out the animation would also be less time consuming then manipulating it with a controller. Also, the facial/vocal recognition could even be used to actually voice the character yourself. As for playing the game, stick with a controller. Leave all the customization options to Natal.
My Member Natal Cry is as follows. I thought of it just after watching the last episode. Natal would be great for games that try to be interactive movies like Heavy Rain or Fahrenheit (read Indigo Prophecy). Think about it! Those games are usually based on heavy dialogue and pressing the right button on the right time. Natal has voice recognition. Maybe you could choose your characters lines as normal but you’d read them aloud and say if you get into a fight and normally you’d press a random button to block a scripted punch but now instead of a button you’d raise your arm up to block the blow. I’m not talking about fullbody precise controls, that would be awful. Only simple and reflex actions. With this type of control you’d really submerge yourself into the game IF done right. The game would have to have a really good script and story, but movies tend to have good scripts and stories. Maybe the film industry could get interested and start looking at games in a different light, a positive light.
Gamemakers and moviemakers working as one! How sick and potentially awesome that would be?
Maybe even Uwe Boll would stop making shitty ass movies of games and start making shitty ass games… of games… wait, what?
PS: I’m Finnish so mind my spelling.
PPS: Also why not use a real guitar in front of Natal and strum the strings for real to play guitar hero! Wow! Wait, Why?
My Battle Cry for Microsoft is to put natal on the back burner. While I get that they want to hop on the train of success the WII has been having, I feel that natal is just going to be a failure. And while many of the comments that have been posted have good ideas, lets face it, Microsoft is probably not going to implement any of them.
That being said, I feel that something like natal will be the future of gaming. But most gamers in today’s gaming world don’t give a shit about it. Maybe in 5 to 10 years KIDS will eat natal up. But as an avid gamer right now, I’d rather Microsoft and any game developers currently working on natal focus on making more and better games. And while I get that these companies want to be innovative, I think there are other ways to do it. For example, Demon Soul’s was probably the most innovative game out in 2009 and what made it so innovative was the subtle ways it tied other gamers into your own personal game experience. It’s thinking like that that is going to bring gaming forward as a whole, not this natal nonsense.
My first battle cry goes out to Natal’s ability to destroy the competition in the fitness gaming genre. With Natal. software will be able to track your stance, movement, and speed with each exercise, correcting these in order to maximize your workout. Not only workouts, but stretches can also be correctly monitored. All in all, I think this is probably the best application of the Natal tech.
My Natal suggestion goes out towards “Party Games” and “Educational Games”, I originally was writing this in favor of RPGs but then realized everything I was suggesting simply made use of a camera… which we already have technology wise. Not knowing exactly what Natal offers more than a camera and microphone I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest creating games that change in accordance to someone’s tone of voice and emotional level. I’m not exactly sure how someone would go about creating such a game, but if it is possible I see such games having at least a little bit of a following. Now a game I can see being very fun on Natal is game like Mario Party, obviously it would not be called Mario party since Natal is Microsoft, however the principle behind a board game on the screen where every action can be done using either hand or body motions is appealing. Imagine rolling the invisible dice, to then end up having four people having to play a mini game involving timing jumps, or attempting to sing a song at a certain note or keep a pitch for so long. I see endless fun with having friends over for nights of laughing at each other possibly getting hurt, which would cause further laughs if someone did get hurt. Educational wise I could see Natal being handy for learning languages or games made for younger kids that react off of simple clapping and laughing methods.
To be honest I don’t see Natal ever taking a huge dive into the Hardcore gaming world, the suggestions you had with Rainbow six with hand gestures should already be possible with a basic web-cam. .. And we’ve had voice communication forever. Natal will be for a smaller player-base involving quicker, more casual games. Just like the Colecovision had an Atari 2600 ad-on this is the Xbox’s Wii ad-on. I see the Natal as a means to try and steal some of the Wii’s thunder (If it ever had any) and take a bigger chunk of the casual gaming market. It’s a smart move by Microsoft, since at that moment they will have a motion controller equal if not better than the Wii’s and the added bonus of having hardcore games at the same time. In the end this all boils down to Microsoft appealing to all audiences, whereas before Natal the Xbox 360 is viewed more as a hardcore gaming system.
My battlecry starts with a reply from your last episode when you commented on how you cannot import games in certain regons. But all ps3 games are region free as ive bought games from japan, hong kong, and canada and they have all worked on my ps3. Which now moves on to my actual battle cry is that ive heard of many american gamers complaining about all retail games maybe moving up to $60. I live in australia and all new games that come out start off at $120! you guys are getting friggen half priced AAA games and your complaining about it! (eg. i bought AC2 in Canadia for $37 in Aus still $110!!!!!)
All 3 of you are wrong about this weeks member battle cry, Demon’s Souls may not be coming to the UK. but you can play import an American copy and play it on any PS3 regardless of region. Don’t you know that, and also for the guy who had this Battle Cry, do your self a favor and get that game at all costs. Trust me. Even if you have to spend over $100(or the UK equivalent) it is so worth it.
And to counter this mishap,
My BattleCry goes out to Atlus as both a developer and as a publisher/distributor. They have been very good about making sure people like me who have just earlier last year became a huge fan of there games and was able to get to older ones because they reprinted them. And also bring more game that I would have never herd of before & they turn out to be amazing. Demon’s Souls was a Favorite game of ’09 and hearing that your region is not getting a proper release is bad, but I do have a friend in the UK who has a japanese copy that works perfectly in his PS3 because it’s region free. So in other words you 3 guys wasted your time last week. But then again I could be just wasting your time. I wrote this much because I want and more people to play DS and spread the word on the best PS3 game to date.
My Natal Battlecry:
I think that, if done correctly, Natal could be very cool for skills and spells in video games.
Lets say you’re some type of Warrior in an RPG and you use one of your special abilities, lets call it “Deadly Blow.” You’ll activate it with a button on your controller but now wouldn’t it be cool if, as Deadly Blow is about to activate, you get a quick time event that tells you to lift you’re arms up and then swing them back down as if you were swinging an axe? It’d be even cooler if Natal could recognize how much strength you put into your swing – giving you a bonus to damage depending on how strong your swing was.
This could work with a spell too. Press the button to activate the spell and the, as your spell is about to finish casting, a quick time event will pop up on your screen, telling you to thrust your arms forward to unleash to spell. It could be taken even further with spells. There could be quick time events that have you match the arm movements of how the caster casts the spell. For example, you’ll get a set of quick time events and it’ll direct you to sway your hands to the left, then to the right, then up, than finally thrust forward to unleash the spell.
The thing is, this shouldn’t be something that’s used for EVERY spell and ability in a game. It’d get tedious after a while, and it won’t be as cool after a while. It should only be used for really powerful spells and abilities or ones with really long cooldowns for example. Maybe as a finishing move or fatality or something.
My ideas for Natal would utilize full body movement as it is meant for. For example, DDR. Instead of stomping around on a pad like a retard, you would have to move your entire body and actually dance to earn points. Also maybe bringing back something from the past, Parappa the Rapper. Doing some actual kicks and punches instead of button mashing. Now for our darker, and more adult crowd, (no, I don’t mean porn), Manhunt. Instead of pressing a button to kill your prey, you would actually physically do the hardcore killing actions yourself to put you more into the game.
natal is a idea only intrection whit a consule i dont think so the hardware of aniconsule could not make it possebol to let it get a qeustion and answer programm its no possebol the caclition speed of the 360 is way 2 low 4 that and even a super computer it would be just not possebol whit all diffrent voices im sorry but im not buying that shit
sorry 4 the bad english
natal interaction is not possebol becaus the hardware of any consule and pc is not getting there if a 360 could do that think about it the ps3 has better hardware and what about a good pc im very sorry not buying that if you take that away you just have a upgraded itoy of ps2 the demo they showed was fake he know what to say and the super pc they runed it on kwow that 2
the english is bad i know sorry
Ok so my battle cry goes out to natal and microsoft. Remember back when Microsoft payed an insane amount of money for rare games. Since then they have become microsofts “casual” developer, with games such as viva pinata, banjo nuts and bolts and the avatar system…now don’t get me wrong i actually own banjo and used to own viva pinata, however i dont ever think to myself fuck yeah lets play some viva pinata.
This is where my battle cry comes in i have a horrible feeling that microsoft will use rare to churn out some casual market game for natal at launch, which to me is very frustrating as i believe its stopping rare what they are truly good at. perfect dark and conkers bad fur day were two of my favourite games of all time, and I read recently (it was old news though) that there was actually a script for a new conker game…Is it just me or do you guys get a sense that microsoft is forcing rare to do projects that aren’t necessarily ones they want to do, if so why do you think they are doing that?
DRAGON BALL Z!!!
Obviously…. who in there right mind does not want to throw down some massive kamehamehas (probably spelled wrong…sue me). Personally, I would thoroughly enjoy reducing Bulma to some annoying retarded form of vaporized she-male.
I love the idea of integrating Natal into certain set-piece moments of games. The Kamehameha in DBZ, maybe interrogating someone in an assassins creed game. Wouldn’t it be awesome to punch a helpless bad guy right in the kisser, or do something weird like tickle his ear, I wont judge you. I also think Natal would be amazing to use during the slower story oriented parts of a game. Not during a huge gunfight when precision outweighs novelty, but during a conversation where it might be used to intimidate or charm. However the bottom line is, its going to cost allot of skrilla, and if it just slightly augments the way I play games, I’m never going to by it. But if it takes over as the new controller, I’m going to buy a PS3.
My battlecry isn’t for Natal, or against it, but for Mass Effect 2, and the people behind the marketing and hype machine. I wasn’t much too bothered about Mass Effect 2 before Christmas, but the amount of media they put out for it, such as the narrative trailers, really makes me want this game right here right now. My battlecry also goes out to the industry as a whole, because this is the way games should be marketed in general, I believe that producers are going out of the way to make their trailers far too much like movie trailers.
My battlecry goes to the creativity of all the game developers, so let them be creative with natal. in my opinion Microsoft should make natal available for evry software used on the XBOX, as an aditional input-device. like headtracking for Simulations and shooters. so you have an option of activating natal enhancements in the game. In my opinion the future of gaming lies with motion tracking, but not with full-motion-controlls, only partial. For RTS on consoles, i think it would be great to mainly controll with the pad, but scroll over the battlefield by using your hand. just grabbing it and moving it. headtracking would be a major feature for a lot of games, like seen here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AO0F5sLdVM
sure there will be great games completly controlled by motion, but those are only some kind of party-games, not the time of game u wanna play when u come home from a hard and exhausting day at work.
And i would not by it only for some kinda partygames. i think it hase great potential. So MS make it avaidable for every softwareproduct on the xbox. and let the creative minds of the industrie be able to bring us the future and great enhanced experiances in the genres we love.
My battle cry goes to Peter Molyneux and Fable III. It is known that Peter Molyneux is one of the main leads in the natal project. But also with fable III coming out and with the videos realeased about a year ago showcasing descision making as a ruler. Is natal going to be used in it? I for one would not like to see this as im a huge fan of the franchise and have doubts about natal and now the fable franchise.
p.s. if DK puts on sunglasses he will look like geddy lee.
My battlecry goes to James_Portnow or daniel floyd (i dunno what his real name is).
In his videos he brilliantly points out the way games are good, and how they can be good, he does it in a way that turns around almost all modern day criticism on games, like “you can’t learn from games”
this is a link to one of his best youtube videos
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rN0qRKjfX3s
Its very much worth checking out, and his opinion on the lack of feminine gamers and the use of sex in games is also very good. His presentation in the vid. is also fun to look at and it makes the video all the more worthwhile.
So, check it out!!!
My battlecry Natal edition would be something constructed on the idea of the oooold game “Die By the sword”(awesome title name btw) mixed in with maybe the kind of dialogues as in Dragon Age.
For those of you who didn’t play “Die by the sword” it was awesome at it’s time cause you could control the movement of the sword with your mouse using some cool shit called a vism-controlling-thing of pure awesomeness…
With a motion-control-natal-kind-of-thing you would be able to chop the arm of while you parry a sword from some random orc then you head to town to chat with some beer smelling dwarf.
Also the whole voice system could maybe go into the dialogues when you talk loudly you get a different respond then if you talk calmly… I might seem farfetched but this is a game idea I would look into…
My first EBC HELL YEAH!!
Thougts about natal:
Character creations in rpgs, stand up in front of the camera and click there you are.
MMORPG Imagine going into a tavern chatting with other players as your character, when you flip the bird your charachter flips the bird when you moonwalk yor charackter moonwalks etc.
If you could interact with other caracter in a rpg like the kid milo, that could be cool if done right.
perform cpr on a fallen comrad or something (your shadow would have to be on screen for that)
Any control room, minority report style, i mean it looked a bit cool.
I think natal could be a lot of fun if they think creative listens to, and aim at the hardcore gamer.
Peace Out!
My Battle cry is about how Natal would work. So far, all games that require a character to move are out of the question. If it requires full Natal control, then your body would have to move for the character to move, which means walk in place, or have the game on rails. But if someone figures out how to move your character without walking into the TV, I would love to see a “Beat Um’ Up” game like Streets of Rage or Double Dragon but more of a over the shoulder camera view. Imagine just beating up thugs in the comfort of your own home. Punches, kicks, headbutts, throws, uppercuts, ect. Oh, DBZ would be kinda fun to see.
I was thinking of another way Natal could be used. Now I don’t play soul calibre but you can customize your characters looks right? Well with Natal maybe you could capture distinct motions (punch, kick) and load those into your character aswell. I don’t mean you control your character with natal just copy your motions.
This is just an example that maybe Natal can also be used as a device that can take the mod community to a whole new level with captured motion. You could capture motions and load them into your character and use them with a button press.
Alot of people rip on Natal but when you sit down with an open mind the possiblities really start to open up to you. I believe Developers are truley interested in trying to use it to better gaming in one way or another.
[...] up? DK here with today (or rather “tonight’s”) Member BattleCry! Sticking with this week’s theme, our BattleCry is about Natal and hearkens ALL THE WAY back to earlier in the week when we [...]
[...] Member BattleCry and boy, it’s a pretty good one IMO. In case you missed it, this week in our MBC Topic Starter we’re asking our members to share their ideas on Microsoft’s Natal. How can it be made [...]
I agree with the idea that Natal should be used to enhance games rather than replace the traditional controllers.
One way I can think of is to recognize leaning during racing. I often find myself leaning involuntarily when I try to make a turn. They could use that to move the screen a little to show more of the actual curving road, rather than the area directly in front. That would make turning easier, since you usually look more to the side you’re turning when you drive in real life, and not straight ahead. That would give players a better feel of the turns, I think.
In the spirit of battle cries that don’t have to do with the topic I devote my battle cry to these guys on youtube called Reckless Tortuga and their video called “The Online Gamer”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCYPGnJdO1U
This Video represents everything wrong with the online gaming community in a rather comical fashion. the great part about it is that none of it is overly exaggerated)
Ok, here’s my Battle Cry for Natal.
As most of you I’m a little bit skeptical about its potential to be a stand alone game experience. So I thought: what about its real potential to improve our actual perception of “online play” and the way all of us interact each other on the multiplayer side of a game?
If Natal is really capable of detect our facial expressions and our voice intonation (also distinguishing our voice from someone else’s in the same room, for exemple) it could be able to transfer them into the character we are playin’ with, almost in real-time (with or without customized characters). And so would be for all the other players around us in the game world, porting our “feelings of that moment” into games, and in combination with its microphone, making that experience much more real-life like (mimicking our personality, our way to be, even within the game). A kind of “ultimate avatar”.
I’m not sure that Natal could detect and perform a real time lip-synch right now, but a generic one (mouth open/mouth shut based on voice-tracking) in combination with facial expressions could work well though.
Developers could create a bunch of little body animations that respond to our actual behaviour and feelings (performed by the character from time to time, not always, it would be invasive) without interfere too much with the gameplay.
Now, think about your favorite multiplayer game, and all your friends you use to play with, in this kind of situation… it would be like being together in the same room and talk about shit with a beer in your hands… ok, not a beer, an AK47 more likely, but in-game. (if I close my eyes I can already visualize a digitalized Brent in all his epic barbarian rage and awesomeness! I’m going to shit my pants…)
All these things with some other “moving detection potential” (that other axe-heads keep imagining and sharing) could really be a step forward.
I’ll not play as “Marcus Fenix” anymore, he’ll play as “Me”… I think it might be awesome.
Sorry for my english, but I’m sure you get the point.
My Battle Cry goes to the Bad Company 2 singleplayer reveal trailer. I’ve been really looking forward to see even a bit of the singleplayer, and the singleplayer trailer is just AWESOME, great song too.
Gotta love DICE !
my battle cry goes out to virtual reality i remember it being depicted in movies and commercials in the 80s, 90s and even till this day and it seems so cool. if microsoft, sony and the whole 3D-HDTV revolution can get us closer to that then im on board but the games have to be like we saw at E3 {namely sony}or better at launch for anyone to really get in to it lets hope they can nail it so we can have an alternative to the controller even though we love the controller and it should be here to stay
My battlecry goes 2 Fuckin Dark Void.I am a pc user and was trilled about this game, untill i found out it was a consoleport from the xbox360.The buttons on screen are xbox? are u fuckin kidding me.Nice tutorial crappy controls. They fucked up the pc version.
Fuck all consoleports and do a decent job or just dont put it on pc.
Well i know actually its an idea fot natal battlecry thingie,
hmm an idea an idea? ow i got 1.Use natal for multimedia and dont fuckin make games out off it,dont want a natal port on my pc where i knock of my monitor well i talk 2 my friends on teamspeak.
Pe@ce
My NATAL battlecry goes to the method they want to make money out of it. If it had been done not-in-a-MONEY-MAKING-way maybe the gaming community wouldn’t be so stiff about the whole ISSUE. My IDEA FOR NATAL’s potential would be INMERSION in the game:
-Visual and voice recognition and processing-:
Marcus Fenix: By the way, did your mom pick that T-shirt for you?
You: Oh come on, reload and let’s kick some Locust butt!
Marcus Fenix: Yeah, whatever you say Mr. Pink. Do you have a toothbrush to match?
-Precise finger detection for RTSs + voice command-:
(if not possible, some colour elastic cloth you put on the tip of your fingers)
Base: General, our base is being attacked. North Wing.
You: Base, list me the upgrades. (while you select your tanks and order them to attack your enemies with your hands)
Base: Missile unit improvement would help in this situation, General.
You: Get on it ASAP! (while you order a defense tower construction)
Base: In process as we speak, General.
- Casual games (yeah, why not?)-
You can always play games like Rock-Paper-Scissors right?
- Driving games -
Tilting your head for a better visual angle. Again talking with your manager while racing.
- FPS + voice command -
(gun type controller needed, with an analog stick for movement where the hammer of the gun would be)
Grenades can be thrown by you. Reloading. Aiming. Voice commanding. Breaching. Planting bombs. Disarming. Manage computer data (Minority Report Style). etc.
Salutations from Spain,
Alecs
My Battle Cry goes out to Microsoft for overcharging for the 360 and making it look competitive with the ps3. Right now 360s with 120gb and ps3s with 120 gb are both selling at about 300$. I got a new HDMI tv set for Christmas and decided to upgrade both my consoles. For my ps3, I bought an HDMI cable for 10$ and a 320gb drive for 55$. Total: 65$
My xbox wouldnt run HDMI, so I needed to buy an elite (300$). I needed to buy a wireless network device because my tv isnt close to my router (70$). I needed to get the HDMI Cable (10$). I needed a sound converter cable because my 360 doesnt have an optical out port (15$). I wanted a bigger drive, but there is no comparable drive, and xbox charges 5x the market value of a drive for their hard drives. I had to buy an upgrade kit to transfer my save games and 360 data off my original drive (13$.. free on my ps3).
To get my 360 next gen ready, I had to spend 410$, and I still have just a regular dvd player. If I want to play online games, I need xbox live gold. I also still have only 120gb drive.
For a PS3, I would only have to spend 365$ to have a good next gen system, with blu ray, online service and a 320gb drive.
I remember when people were complaining about how expensive the PS3s were, now we really need to turn around and take a look at how expensive the Xbox is, and how microsoft screws its customers by making us buy only microsoft upgrades at 5x the price.
This is not to start a flame war, I like my 360, I just hated the fact that my ps3 cost me 65$ to upgrade, and my 360 cost me 410$. The 360 should be retailing at 200$ with all its non included features to make it competitive, and stop pretending its an equal value at the 300$ price point.
My battlecry goes 2 Microsoft’s Natal what can it be use for, well i thought of 4 thing it could be use for: 1. it could make game like Broken sword, in cold blood and csi where u can solve puzzle and Investigate. 2. it can be a learning tool 2 help u cook nice dishes, play the piano or learn how 2 read and write for kids. 3. or it could be something u could use for read newspaper or comic books. 4. last one use it 2 explorer the internet easier.
btw keep up the gd work u are doing ppl later
My battle cry this week goes out to weird sh*t. Because without it, our lives would kind of suck ^^
Hey guys, Whats up. My EBC goes out to the constant trashtalking of games… by gamers… and also a use for Natal…
I just don’t understand, Why is it that everyone has to bash everything out there, i mean, if it meant that 1 person who hated a game/movie/book/song/music/footballteam/campfire song and hotdog flavor, and everything else in the world, meant it would be erased from existence, it would mean nothing good would exist. We would live in a boring world, in our boring country, in our boring homes, and what would we have, nothing but our boredom… and DnD… no one can trashtalk DnD… its the 8th sin to do…
All im saying is… and im not even gonna say plz on this one… Cant the gaming community AS IN EVERY F***ING GAMER OUT THERE understand that everyone has their own opinion, but that you dont have to be such an complete D**chbag about it… Come on people, what are we, cavemen. Cause i think even they had standards about what to whine about, and what did they have, ‘Sticks and Stones’. Today, i notice we don’t even have a standard… its a disgrace really…
And to all who go: this game, that game, halo, star wars, star trek, Bioshock, AS, AOT, COD, DnD, MOH, WH, WOW… What ever game that you think of, is trash and worthless, come on… No game is perfect, no game is trash, well those made by people at home that looks like a 2year olds first contact war with a crayon and paper, maybe.
Because when you say a game is perfect, you’ll only concentrate on finding faults in everything else, and when you think a game is trash, your actually crotchkicking the guys who spent time and effort into a project, that they knew, not everybody would like, but that they put their hearts into making… i mean come on, Did da vinchi paint the ‘Mona lisa’ because he just felt like it, i think not…
Lastly, A game is based of the story that it plays, be it mass effect, bioshock, Batman, final fantasy, splinter cell, those the developers state there isn’t one, or even games that are only about shooting other players like counterstrike, unreal tournament, etc. All games have a story to tell, be it a horror, action, adventure, shooter, strategy or otherwise… we cant blame the story, we can only blame ourself that we dont see the story, or understand it… cause thats what makes a game good in someones eyes, when he gets a feeling for the idea that its giving…
Being honest, polite and saying ‘i dont like this game, it doesn’t appeal to me’ makes so much more for a guideline in the game developers strive to better them selfs than ‘THIS F****** GAME IS A F****** PIECE OF S***, A******’, cause this is just disgraceful, not to them, the gamedesigners, but to you(only aimed at those who do this) as a gamer, because your not showing respect to the dedication that some people put in their work.
You dont disrespect an architect for his houses, you say it doesnt fit you style, you don’t disrespect an inventor, you ask him to prove what he created works and is useful… Need i continue?
I mean im scared shitless of something as simple as project zero, or even deepspace and dont play them, but i love the games as ideas and creations, and the dedication that was given by its creators…
What Natal can be used for, boxinggames, karategames, ‘non running’ sportsgames or ‘large movement actions’ require a lot of space to work, some people just dont have a open space of 10/20/30 sq/ft to jump around in, and any shootergame or weapon game would need extra equipment for fully controllability, and the controller could be mistaken for a real weapon (20-30 swatmembers busted down a poor guys door, in town, weapons ready, because the neighbor thought she saw a g36 through his window, which turned out to be a g36c BB gun)and it would still be a railshooters, unless your feet work a pedal or joystick to control movement, and swinging a sword or similar around for a swordgame or such, is an accident waiting to happen, i would know…death to Wii and its armflailing inducing nerv virus… 6 feet of safety zone when someones playing a fast paced game.
so the best i can think of is… nothing… what a shame… not
My battlecry is totally offtopic from natal, but mainly because I don’t believe there is any hope for that thing.
Anyway, it goes out to Rockstar, or take two, or whoever it was that decided people who bought lost and damned at full dlc price on day one, then bought ballad of gay tony at full dlc price on day one… should get LESS of a bonus than people who held off and bought the retail disc of the episodes from liberty city.
Thanks guys, no really, fuck your DLC from now on, I’ll wait and get the retail version with extra soundtracks and stuff, that costs you more to produce, and gives you less money in between episodes.
Dicks.
My first attempt at an audio member Battlecry:

Hope it doesn’t suck too much…
My battle cry goes out to the lack of marketing for games after their release. Im talking about games like uncharted 2 which did not even place in the top 20 on the NPD charts this month. The month before release I was seeing trailers on TV non stop for the game but about a week after release I noticed none at all. I think that publishers should start to think of more long term marketing plans to keep their games selling for longer rather than the major blitz that only happens at release.
My battlecry goes out to essentially all genres for Natal. If the videos have been truthful thus far, showing features like using your voice and what not, then the Natal could be implemented into many already released games very well.
From the ability to bark orders in a Tom Clancy game to actually speaking the dialogue option in Mass Effect or other RPGs. Obviously this alone would not make Natal worth more (or even equal to) than a headset. Attaching Natal to any other games (Shooters) I could only see it becoming a nuisance and more annoying than it is worth. However coupled together with games built specifically in Genres like racing and fighters (or brawlers) the Natal could perhaps not be an utter piece of garbage. Fighters could obviously used improved controls for the Xbox 360 (think Dpad) and racing is just an easy genre to do…
Another thing I would love to see come from Natal (game related) is to improve the whole taking an image of your face ability in games. The last time I did that was in Rainbow 6: Vegas and immediately changed it to an in game face because of how awful it looked (I know I am not pretty, but it was worse…). If Natal can sense a 3D environment then what is the possibility it could actually put a 3D version of your face into a game rather than the 2D version everything else does now).
To me Natal, much like the vision camera or headset, is just an extension to the gaming experience we already have. Like it has been said before, Microsoft has failed to prove that Natal can stand on its own (unless you are a fan of MS paint… sorry Xbox 360 paint). The best thing for Microsoft to do is to show brand new titles working on Natal (without a caption saying the images are not real) and to pack many of the games shown (not all obviously) with the Natal (much like the Nintendo Wii did). And for the love of your customers, Microsoft DO NOT MAKE ANOTHER TOTEMBALL to showcase the product.
My battlecry goes to head tracking. Natal is the perfect opportunity to turn a standard display into a 3D capable display via the use of head tracking – something I think could be used to great effect for “hardcore” games. Most of you have probably already seen this video, but it’s a fantastic example of the technology: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd3-eiid-Uw note that his example requires LED head gear only because that is a limitation of the Wii.
I sometimes already find myself ducking or leaning while playing FPS games (don’t lie, you do too), just because it’s the natural reaction a person has when immersed in a game, imagine if it actually *did* something instead of just making you feel stupid. Head tracking has already been used for a few games, Need for Speed: Shift being the most recent I can recall, and it’s been confirmed for Gran Turismo. The technology is proven, it’s a very dramatic, gameplay enhancing effect, and it’s just downright cool.
So, MS… Get on it.
My Idea for (N)ot(ATAL)l is:
IT SUCKS, DROP IT MICROSOFT ENOUGH ALREADY. Ok, i guess they want to innovate the gaming industry (yeah, in their pockets) but 1. chose better speakers to tell your ideas to the public and 2. answer me this everyone: WHAT and only WHAT IF the makers of Leisure Suit Larry decide to make their next installment (N)ot(ATAL)l ready? imagine a poor a$$hole playing this game (cause he has nothing else to do, and since he never goes out he threw some bucks for bill gates to fill the plane) and every dude and grandma passing on the street CAN watch directly from the window you moving like…(use your imagination), WHAT THE HELL would they think? they’d call the loonie hospital!!! thats what. Give it that: do i HAVE to throw tomatoes around the room to throw something up on MW2 or do i have to throw jack daniels as a molotov on L4D2? i mean WTF!!!
MY EBC for this week is………………..
PLEASE SHUT THE HELL UP ABOUT NATAL ALREADY!!!!
goddamnit
[...] Spider-Man Hey everyone, DK here with today’s Member BattleCry which, as you might suspect by this week’s topic starter, has to do with an idea on how to implement Microsoft’s Natal into a true gaming experience. [...]
My Battle Cry This week goes to EA or DICE, the makers of Battle Field Bad Company 2:
(I apologize in advance since my battle cry doesn’t involve Microsoft’s Natal or the revolutionary way of getting some nerds to interact with boobs. Just imagine Natal giving a WHOLE new meaning to online sex or in this case sex over your AVATAR, Avatar’s gone wild!)
I have seen some game-play footage of BF:BC2 and it looks absolutely brilliant!
Seems like they have done everything right!
There is one thing that I wish they would still add to the game though. Which is ANIMATIONS to the characters entering vehicles (like in FarCry 2).
That said let me explain why that would be a good idea.
Remember in the old days of BF:1942 and BF:2 whenever some noob was about to get owned and there was a vehicle near by, like a tank, that player would just run up to the tank and enter it because once you hit the button to enter a vehicle in those older BF games you would simply “teleport” inside it, which not only is unrealistic but also would completely unbalance the game, once inside the tank that guy wasn’t only instantly protected but could also take you out with 1 blow.
So EA’s (or Dice w/e) solution to that was to make tanks weaker (2-3 anti-tank rockets would blow it up) Well I say an Abrams tank can take much more than 2 RPGs or even blasts from another tank. So weakening tanks actually makes the game even more unrealistic and eliminates the strategic advantage that tanks give you.
So Instead of weakening the tanks add the animation of your own character climbing up the tank and getting inside the hatch (a 4-5 seconds animation would do) This way nobody can just jump inside a tank in the middle of a shootout and just instantly be armored. The opposite is also true, whenever a tank was about to be blown up you could just teleport out, so adding animations of the character opening the hatch and hopping out quickly (a 2-3 sec animation for getting out) would also make sense.
Also make the animation cancelable simply by repressing the same button you use to get inside the vehicle this way if you see someone passing by you don’t have to wait to shoot them.
Of course with this you could make tanks a bit stronger, and with this you’re also adding a dilemma to a player that is about to enter a tank in the middle of a shootout “If you try to enter the tank you’ll be exposed, an easy target. But if you succeed you’ve got a bigger reward).
IMO this is a better way to balance the game.
make a realy good Diablo for natal. and throw the controler through the window.
[...] Oh, and if you wanna sound off with YOUR ideas on cool ideas for Natal, you can do so here. VN:F [1.9.1_1087]Rating: +3 (from 3 votes) Share | [...]
