Well gang, another year, another E3 in the books. Obviously, it was a busy time for the entire industry and we here at the ‘Axe hope you enjoyed our coverage of the event which delivered a TON of new news, big reveals, and so on. From new hardware (3DS anyone!) and new ways to play (Kinect, Move) to big announcements (Twisted Metal returns!) and a steady stream of media, it was certainly an eventful week in gaming. That said, when it comes down to it, for us E3 is all about the GAMES! With an impressive roster of quality titles on all platforms, it seemed like the competition for “Game of Show” was at an all-time high. Honestly, I didn’t feel like there was a single “runaway” game that defined the show, but rather numerous games that generated significant buzz. Now that we’ve had some time to soak it all in though, we’re gonna task you with telling us what YOUR favorite game of E3 2010 was. So, with that in mind, we’re posing the following question as this week’s Member BattleCry topic starter:
WHICH GAME OF E3 2010 WAS YOUR PERSONAL FAV?
I know, I know…hard questions, but what we want to do here is open up the floor to hear from our community about exactly WHY a particular game stood out to them. This IS NOT a flame war to bash other people’s opinions…DO NOT criticize someone else’s post simply because you don’t agree. Everyone here is entitled to their own opinion and I’m hoping that we’ll all be turned out to something that we may have missed or overlooked when the conversation is said and done. We’ll be checking the Member BattleCries all week long and then selecting one Member BattleCry of the Week that will be showcased on the next skirmish of EpicBattleCry.
Also, we’re going super top line, but we encourage you to vote in our poll which simply asks you to tell us whether you think Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo had the better show. You can vote in the sidebar anywhere on the site, so don’t forget to chime in! We’re looking forward to your feedback gang so keep your comments coming as we Cry Havoc and Let Our Voices Be Heard about the games of E3 2010!!!
Cheers,
DK

Another E3 Battle Cry ? I posted mine on the other post already.
http://epicbattleaxe.com/member-battle-cries-6710/
Favorite game of E3? Hard pick, but the game that caught my eye this year and just wont go away is SW TOR. Just seeing the love and level of polish Bioware is putting in to this its clear that Lucas is staying Away.
Who Won E3? Sony!
not just cuz i am a Sony fanboy But because they came out and showed GAMES! and even games that used the move that look interesting. Microsoft was just mehh, i dont care about Kinect for 1hr and 20min, and i dont care about Skittles, Nintendo WoW’d me but i am not a Zelda/Kirby/Micky fan sssooooooo, When kids were watching Disney films when they were 3-8 i was watching Aliens, Predator and Terminator film
Game of E3? … Portal 2, no doubt about it. The game itself and the fact that the PS3 version will feature steamworks (something a lot of people didn’t seem to fully understand) make it the best thing since sliced bread for me.
yeah Portal 2 for sure, but the game i didnt know about and looks very promissing is Homefront, i like the setting, ingame storytelling, gameplay and graphics looks good, i like goliath.. reminds me HL2 a little
The game that caught my the most was Twisted Metal, maybe because all the other games I knew about, but this one brought back more fond memories than any other rehash that was presented on the floor. At least this time I won’t have to play co-op on an 18 inch TV. I was disappointed to hear that they are going for a T rating instead of a M rating like Black, but I am sure the dark humor will still be there.
Brink
..and Rage because my comment was too short.
My Battle Cry this week goes out to Star Wars The Old Republic. This might be the first MMO im really wanting to play more then just a couple of days trial. The art style took me completly, the integration of real story in a so-called “storyless” genre, the depth that Bioware is going to make this game true both to their KOTOR games aswell to the Star Wars myth in general.
The CGI movie was again incredible and it really pulled it of to get you in the vibe that the game is going to give when you play it. (HELL i havent made a fanmashed trailer of the first trailer and the new one with the underscore of requiem for a dream for nuthin’ haha). But for the rest E3 wasnt really showing games that I was swepped of my feet. Halo Reach looked cool, GoW 3 looked impressive aswell, Epic Mickey looked good and a fun game, and and and, how wait, maybe this battlecry isnt usefull for the overall coverage of very high quality titles that im interested in….
My favorite game of E3 would have to be the new Castlevania (though, it was my fav long before E3). Not to be confused with that embarrassing 2D one, I refer to the ever growing Lords of Shadow. Not much was shown other than the teaser trailers and a few screens, I’m glad to see this shaping up so well. For those hell bent of crying out “GOW ripoff”, I pity you. Nothing I’ve seen from this game (from the locations, to the monster design, to the music) seem outside of Castlevania standards. It didn’t even have to break the maturity level with excessive gore or nudity; even though this has always been a bloody series, just not as graphic (and lets not forget that the Succubus in SotN was nude 1st). And the combat, its Castlevania. Just because Kratos wants to use his swords like a whip doesn’t mean that Castlevania is mimicking GOW. I’ll see this as what Lament of Innocence could have been. As for repetitive hack-n-slash, were the 2d ones ever that deep in terms of combat. There’s not much to do besides whipping straight at the enemy. The series was always about more than just combat, so u cant go judging this game on that alone. Besides, if the old school vania’s can influence the likes of DMC, how else could it appear in the 3D realm.
This is definitely gonna be a late entry for game of the year, no doubt. I hope the new crap a duty doesn’t rob GOTY like it did with Batman.
As for that new 2D one, it brings despair to my eyes. Was it too much to expect HD visuals like Murumasa or Odin’s Sphere? The least they could have done was a 3D/2D hybrid like so many other titles are doing nowadays. On top of that, no story. Really!? I cant accept that one. I’m not feeling this time attack mode. Is this the best Iga can do? At least the music sounds good and kojima’s art returns, looking forward to that soundtrack.
Two games stood out from the crowd to me, and both from the Microsoft camp, I might add, which is strange considering I usually side with the PS3 side of arguments.
First off, Metal Gear Rising completely took me by the blind-side. I had expected a really fast paced Ninja Gaiden type knock off for the 360. For some reason, I never thought it was going to be so like MGS. One thing I noticed about it was the old MGS style attention to detail was there, and that’s what I loved about it. The first cut Raiden makes on the big guy at the start of the trailer, he slices down the length of his arm and you can completely see inside his arm, all the length of it. I love how you’ll be able to do that to enemies, or you can just be ruthlessly efficient and slice his head off. I loved the slow-mo combat. A sneaky way to make what used to look like really fast paced action that bit slower, but still keep up the madness in the gameplay. The slice system seems really innovative. Cant’ wait to see how that properly works. I was going to skip over Metal Gear Rising. Really glad I didn’t now.
And the other was Halo Reach. I think the trailers they showed for Firefight and the Campaign stuff is really going to set people’s interests off who aren’t completely convinced with Reach. Introducing new game modes so late in production ((I’m talking about the space battles moreso than Firefight, because that was in ODST)) is a ballsy move on Bungie’s part. I hope it pays off for them, because what they’ve done so far looks really impressive.
Oh, and Kevin’ Butler, definitely.
Oh, and Kevin Butler. Definitely.
You know what, as hard as it is for me to choose just one, I’ll go with the game that my gut is telling me, and that game is Marvel Vs. Capcom 3.
First off, the visual representation (sounds better than “ZOMG TEH GRAPHIX!!”); The game is friggen gorgeous to look at. The colors are just so vibrant, and they definitely add something when you think of all the muddy, grey and brown FPS’s that come out these days, and they go great with the cell shading(cell shading-esque?) style. Also love the cool little comic book style text effects that pop up, and the effects on the attacks are great as well.
Second, the character roster; Dante + Deadpool = Nuff Said. Those were two of my most, if not the two most anticipated characters for this game. I guess it was a long shot for them to NOT show up, but seriously, the early confirmation puts me at ease. Now I’m eagerly awaiting the unveiling of Viewtiful Joe and Thor (again, seems like two safe bets, but I want confirmation).
Third, the gameplay; Still that good ol’ flashy fast paced fighting with a character roster that you would normally only dream of and talk about on “*Blank* Vs *Blank*” topics on an internet forum……this game brings that to reality. I’m really liking how they simplified the launch system myself. I never personally had a problem with the way it was in the previous games, but this will make it easier for the noobies to hop in and play. I realize people are probably going to complain that “Easier = Dumbed Down”, but really, MvsC isn’t exactly the best example of a good competitive fighter (Storm/Magneto/Sentinel/Cable anyone?).
So yeah, MvsC3 is my Game of E3 2010. I’ve been waiting for this to happen for sooooooo long, and honestly, I really only ever dreamed of it happening. If it’s this much fun to just watch, I can’t wait to get my hands on it.
Gonna give some honorable mentions to these games as well:
Dead Space 2
Twisted Metal (Best entrance ever)
Fallout: New Vegas (You hear that? That’s the sound of 100 hours of my life going *poof*.)
Portal 2
Pretty much everything from Nintendo that was at E3: Kid Icarus 3DS, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Kirby Epic Yarn, etc, etc
Sorcery (Actually did some really cool stuff with the Move controller. Nice to see something for the core gamer)
I’m going to have to go with Ghost Recon: Future Soldier on this one. Because although it has a stupid name, the demo that they showed blew me away. Before the show, I was hearing a lot of people saying that it was just trying to copy Modern Warfare. But, as it turns out, ITS A STEALTH GAME! And it looks like a damn good one too. Stealth games have been getting more and more aggressive over the past year or two, from Arkham Asylum to Splinter Cell and now to this. Im convinced that this is the next step in the stealth game evolution. Instead of sneaking around your opponents and tranquilizing them like Snake, you just put on your invisibility suit on and tactically run and gun your way through an enemy army. Im not saying that this aggressive style that stealth is heading towards is better than any other, but it sure is refreshing to see games taking a new approach to an old genre. Way to innovate Ghost Recon!
My BattleCry goes out to Eidos Montreal (Square Enix, now…)!
Deus Ex came out in 2000 and the proper sequel still remains to be seen.
EM is working on sequel (actually prequel) titled Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
Every fan is concerned how will it turn out, but the thing that strikes me most is EM’s communication with fans, better said lack of it.
There is not a word on official forums from the developers about the game. Members there need to search other (gaming magazine) sites for information and repost them. It’s ridiculous!
And now, everyone hoped E3 will restore faith in Deus Ex development by showing some gameplay footage. But guess what, it was shown behind closed doors…
Eidos Montreal did a nice ‘screw you’ to fans!
There were some leaked video footage of it and it looked rather good. I see no reason why it wasn’t shown to public.
P.S. Sorry for my bad English
My Battle Cry goes out to two words…Twisted…Metal. I mean ive been waiting for this game for such a long time on the ps3 and its FINALLY HERE!
My Battle Cry goes out to Crysis 2. My Battle Cry goes out to this game because it looks amazing! Not only graphically but also in terms of gameplay. It’s an open world FPS adventure that like it’s predecessor is giving you a linear campaign but thanks to the nano-suit it allows for non-linear approaches. Are you going to use the Predator style visor to scope out the enemies and plan from there? Are you going to use stealth to get behind the enemy? Or are you going to charge in guns blazing? It’s this freedom in gameplay that gets me excited and I already find myself planning ways to defeat the enemy with the nano-suit.
My battlecry goes to a game that really deserved to be showcased but it wasn’t, and that is Final Fantasy XIV.
Square Enix is doing an amazing job with this MMO but a lot of people don’t seem to notice it at all, kind of shame considering the technical and aesthetic prowess injected onto it even at this Alpha stage.
Cheers axeheads!
Well, frankly speaking what I really like were conferences. EA and Sony. As for games then here is my list:
- Witcher 2 (mainly because I love Witcher and what sequel ASAP)
- Bulletstorm (correct me if I wrong but main voice actor is a guy who gave his voice to Wolverine in all cartoons)
- Bad Company 2: Vietnam (I know it was one small teaser, but I love this game and that teaser injected some placebos into my blood)
- Dead Space 2 – cool horror and monsters.
So yeah, that’s not just one game. I know. But what can I do? The whole E3 was good. EA + Sony = EPIC VICTORY!!!
Wassup, my brothers of betrayal, my Uncles of Underhandedness, HOW ART THOU!!! (Had to try it once)
My Battlecry goes to Kid Icarus: Uprising. While Nintendo announced many Great games this year, The game they showed that got me really exited during the show was Kid Icarus. I think its been 23 years since the original game and Pit has been overdue for his triumphant return. The Trailer was pretty cool and really showed off what the 3DS would be capable of doing. I really hope that the game will turn out to be good.
Last note: The Game looks really different from the original style (platforming + metriod-ish duengeons). While I hope it keeps elements from the original, if this new title at least allows for a new game to be made that follows the original style, I will be happy.
Gonna have to agree here. There really wasn’t anything remotely as interesting, imo. While swtor has awesome cinematics, as a long time MMO player, I haven’t seen or heard anything that makes me jump for joy over swtor. I’m generally not an Asian MMO fan, but Final Fantasy definitely has me interested.
Offcourse you would agree with him, YOU ARE MARRIED TO HIM
just kidding, I know how you to “fight” with each other, with thanks to the forums
My fav game at the show that I saw gameplay for was Deus Ex. and Mortal Kombat. I liked the Deus Ex gamplay because you could actually do everything you saw in the trailer. You could punch through walls, it had dual stealth kills, stealth camo, other abilities. And love the new x-ray moves in MK. I can’t wait to see the new fatalities.
For me surprisingly Metal Gear Rising…. im not a massive MGS fan, in fact i haven’t even played all the consoles versions or any of the PSP versions (yet). But the ones i have played, i really enjoyed. Going into E3 there was a lot of mystery about the newest installment and what a Raiden only game would bring to the table.
The debut trailer however was awesome and my highlight (there wasn’t many) of the Microsoft press conference. I loved the new cutting mechanic and the news later in the week, that the game will still feature some steath aspects. Only helped to increase my hype levels for this game. It may be a long time before it comes out and we may of not seen that much of the game. But it was the game after E3 that i wanted to see more of the most.
Other honourable meations go to Rage which was close and Swtor which i was already hyped for before the show but they only showed an (awesome) trailer. If they showed off more gameplay and gave out further details it would of been my game of the show.
At the risk of drawing the ire of every axe head here, I’m gonna give my battle cry to Kinect – not because of their demos (which were, admittedly, abysmal), but because of the prospects of the technology. I know that Kaiser Shizzle is worried about shoehorning Kinect-ability into the hardcore market, but I think there are a lot of possibilities of merging this nascent technology into hardcore titles in unobtrusive, exciting ways. I’m a big fan of voice recognition, and I’d love to see some of the higher tier tactical shooter devs play with this new tech a little bit.
Also, I don’t know about the rest of you, but I would be FINE with Kinect providing the same gameplay fills that quick time events do now – you’re running through the mountain path at the beginning of RE4 and the boulder falls – why not prompt the player to physically dodge it? Or perhaps Bioware could use Kinect to improve the hacking minigames in Mass Effect 3?
That’s my battle cry, and also my prediction. Kinect is awesome, just not yet. Believe.
Trust me, we do disagree from time to time on gaming. =P
Also, thanks to Solidus for reminding me about Mortal Kombat and Dues Ex. Definitely looking forward to those two titles.
My Battlecry goes out to Marvel VS Capcom 3.
After seeing screenshots and hearing about the implementing of TvC controls I was pretty much ready to dismiss the game altogether.
But after seeing the gameplay I’m happy to say I’m hyped as hell to get my hands on it, I’m still worried about the controls, but overall I’m just happy to see it in motion.
Greetings fellow Axeheads, my Member Battle Cry for Favorite of E3 is . . . . . . . ( insert your favorite NEW Intellectual Property here ) What kind of answer is that?!?! you ask. Well, in my opinion only developers with real BALLS would be willing to risk them by putting them out there on the table with fresh ideas. I also feel like that is something not just gaming, but the whole world could use a little more of these days. New ideas and the balls to be different. I am seriously so fucking tired of all these FPS sequels (especially THIS year, for some reason) I could fucking puke!!! If I never see another FPS for the rest of my life, it wouldn’t hurt my feelings. My grandma could make a few maps, slap some new skins on the same old FPS and call it a game, WTF?!?!? Just sayin’ . . . . ROCK ON AXEHEADS ! ! ! !
P.S Sports motion-control games do NOT count as new IP.
Just because all the good games are probably taken by now (portal 2, Halo Reach, MvsC3, Crysis 2, ect.) I’m gonna go out on a limb here.
My Epic Battle Cry goes out to the Star Wars Kinect title. There’s only one fucking game we asked for when we saw the Wiimote for the first time, motion plus for the first time, and PS Move for the first time. A Star Wars game that lets us use a lightsaber. Now we find out it’s on Kinect of all things, and even though your not holding anything, I say fuck it, if it works then I got to give them props for that. At least someone listened.
One thing I noticed in the trailer was that the game was on rails (if that was even gameplay). That actually sounds like the right way to go about this, cause if it’s anything like Star Wars Arcade back in the day then it’s gonna be fun.
I would have to agree, I love the idea of a motion-controlled lightsaber but . . . .
”you’re not doing it right”
My EBC goes out to Necromachina, not because it looked the best, but because I want people to check it out. It’s exactly the kinda game the boys are talkin about, a 2d, 4 player co-op (not just over the net, but in the same room) with awesome graphics. I stumbled across it on Game Trailers. It looks like SO MUCH FUN!!! It’s a PSN/Xbox live game, kind’ve a mix between Devil May Cry and Stryder. It wasn’t Mortal Kombat (which was AMAZING) but don’t overlook this one with all the big names being thrown around.
Check it out at Game Trailers now! I COMMAND YOU!
whats up my swordsmen of slashery my deputies of disembowelment how art thou its yours brent treat it well. my battlecry goes out to mortal kombat because the developers really listened to the people who buy their games ed boon even stated that its not really his game it belongs to us. hes just there for the ride. MK looks awesome its the mk we’ve wanted for years, and those guys delivered. MK dosent get the respect it deserves its basically what every male in his 20s or 30s played in the early 90s because it was so vastly different from everything else.the blood, the graphics, the sound, and the fatalities my god those beautiful fatalities. even though MK vs DC was lacking in fatalities it let us have scorpion vs batman and subzero vs superman how cool was that you never saw that coming until it was announced.they always keep the fans in mind. it almost like its not about the business, its about making the gamers happy. they’ve went back to what we wanted and they gave us a little more. so to Ed Boon and his team you guys rock and so do you guys at EBA thanks for letting the gamers speak our minds. you guys were awesome at E3…cry havoc
My battle cry would have to go out to Dead Space 2. The first game had a fantastic atmosphere missing from games these days. The visuals and audio department hit the tone on all aspects. By the looks of the second one they have taken the first dead space to a whole new level.
Gone is the clunky zero gravity it seems. Which is great since some of the frustration involved in the first game was launching from floor to ceiling.
I am looking forward to getting in the suit with Issac to rid the universe of the necromorphs once again.
I can not wait until that game is released next year. As a side note I was upset there was no mention of The Last Guardian or Demon’s Souls 2 at E3… Twisted Metal was not what I wanted to see as Sony’s headliner…
Where is scirmish 79? :’( My battle cry go to Mortal Combat rebirth. Mortal combat vs dc universe i dont count, because nah it is not the same as solid mortal combat with only these characters. I think we will get most brutal, most goriest and most bloodiest game ever.
My game of E3 has to be Kirby. I shit myself with excitement when I saw it.
My member battle cry goes to portal 2. Thanks to the greatness that is steam I got a chance of playing the original portal for free. I just loved it from begining to end. But I got the feeling that once you know the idea behind the puzzles was kinda easy.
When I saw all the gameplay they showed I just shit my pants. All the new gameplay devices such as the repulsion gel, propulsion gel, thermal discouragement beam (the name itself rocks) looked really interesting and knowing the minds behind Valve I’m completely sure that the new puzzles are going to be mind-blowing.
The humor remains intact, they promised a full lengh game, the new co-op, this game has everything. And being this a sequel it means that portal has become his own franchise. I think that along half life 2 this is going to be one of the best valve games.
“It burns”
Just for the record, I was fine with Lament of Innocent (not so much Curse of Darkness) and that was pre-GOW. All I’ll ask for from that game would be more exploration elements and smoother combat mechanics (LoI was fine, but a bit stiff in some areas, like the air), maybe an actual budget that never seems to grace a konami game unless its Metal Gear. U know what, that’s Lords of Shadow.
Greetings Axelords,
I need your help here. (Please don’t laugh, but..) I bought a PSP Go last year.
Ok, done laughing?.. :p
My old PSP broke, and Tekken 6 for PSP came out somewhat simultaneously with the PSP Go. I decided it was a perfect time to “upgrade” my portable gaming hardware and thought Tekken 6 would be the perfect game I could play on the road.
So I checked PSN and Tekken 6 wasn’t available in Asia (yeah I’m from Asia, with an Asian PSN account). I didn’t mind it that much back then as I had Chains of Olympus, Arctic Edge & Def Jam to keep me busy on the “go”. A month later, still no Tekken 6. 2 months, 3 months… checked today and still no Tekken freakin’ 6!!
Now please help me understand this. You guys have always brought sense to this mad world called the gaming industry or at the very least made it fun trying. The game is available in the US PSN store (haven’t checked EU). Why couldn’t they add it to the Asian PSN?
Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but isn’t Namco a Japanese company to begin with? Hell, Sony is a Japanese company and yeah, Japan is still part of Asia. I think we should have even gotten the game before anyone else and now we are not even getting the game at all.
What’s stopping them from releasing Tekken 6 in Asia? An oversight? Some stupid marketing decision? Is the Go selling so well that they trying slow down sales for it or what?
Few notes to consider:
- I could buy the game from the US PSN store by buying a US PS card but that is totally overpriced over here. It’s like paying $35 for $20 worth of games.
- I can only use 1 PSN acct with my PSP. If I wanted to play a Tekken 6 that I purchased from US PSN I would have to connect my PSP to my PC/Mac and login to Media Go with a US acct. Then do the same if I want to switch back and play the games bought from PSN Asia (quite a lot). Now who wants to do all that while travelling?
- They have Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny but its priced at around $55.00. Who’s gonna pay that much for a game that you get off an online service for a portable device (whole other story, anyway)?!?
Releasing this game in PSN Asia would solve everything for me but it looks like that ain’t gonna happen. Please help me figure out why.
Or better yet, maybe swing sledgehammer to the face of whoever you guys know at Sony until they sort this whole PSN disaster out.
My cry goes out to Portal 2. Just the sound of her voice gave me the chills, enough about Gabe.
If Sony wants to sell Move this would be the game what would help. Sony are you listening.
Love the show I registered just for this post so I would love some sweet a$$ gaming.
I’m gonna go a little against the grain here.
My battle cry goes to the games that didn’t show up at E3. It may seem a little backwards but my battle cry goes out to these games as I would much rather their teams be busy working on the games than holding press conferences and working at E3.
Blizzard decided not to show this year (again) so my Diablo III and WoW:Cataclysm cravings continue unsatisfied.
Unfortunately Square also decided that it wouldn’t show anything on the non-MMO Final Fantasy series. The fact that they’re not saying anything about FFXIII Versus and Agito is a little disconcerting. I won’t get too paranoid unless they don’t say anything about them at TGS this year.
So props to you developers who are (hopefully) too busy making your games awesome to show up at E3.
Deux Palabras: Mortal Kombat!
Although i was most impressed by Dead Space 2, and Sorcery “props to Sony for involving the core gamers in the move”
my game of the show had to be mortal kombat, after the disaster that was MK Vs DC, seeing them going back to MK’s roots makes me one happy customer, and by the look of things so far it won’t disappoint
The fatalities put a smile on my face “huge Grin”
same logic also applies to Need For Speed, but I am more of an MK fan
It’s always a nice sight when a developer delivers what their fans request, and this time Ed Boon’s approach to the MK reboot seems to be pure fan service. I guess after MK Vs DC “which was good for what it was” they realized that true fans of the series were not gonna settle with T rated atrocities. So thanks ED, and I will buy your game
I think games took a backseat in this E3 with hardware being the real push in the show (motion controls and 3D).
With that in mind I wanted to give a quick shout out to the new Kirby game for the Wii.
I do NOT own a Wii and probably never will, but what they did with that game is pure genius from what I could see.
The graphic capabilities of Nintendo’s console are definitely showing their age – like you guys mentioned on one of your vids, but they turned that around and showed a true work of art of a game.
Also, quick mention to Deus EX, didn’t really see much of it besides the trailer, but I’m really looking forward to.
Peace!
My Battle cry for the best game of E3 is Medal of honor hands down for 2 reasons. First and primarily, MoH seems like it has the serious potential to dethrone CoD as the premier 1st person shooter. With the internal combustion of Infinity Ward we can expect that the next Modern Warfare games won’t be up to the standard we are used to (I mean IW pwns Treyarch soooooooo….)
Secondly, the story or the setting for MoH is set and based off real experiences in Afghanistan. If we all dive down into the memory pool, there was a game called Six Days to Fallujah. Now that game got ALOT of hate because people thought that the guys making the game were tryna profit from the war effort (as stupid as it sounds…games have the ability to bring to light serious and important situations and events occurring in our present time…ignorant Bit**es…anyway) and for that reason the game tanked. Shoutout to the guys at EA for making this game about the war as well as knowing how to generate favor and support for their game with out the ensuing flak.

my battle cry goes to nintendo for giving up on motion control. when i saw the nintendo press conference i assumed that it would be better then last year but it was WAY OVER my expatiations. the main reason for this is them instead of showing more motion control bullshit nintendo has decided to go back to the basics, if you look at what they showed other then wii party, mario sports and zelda everything had barely any motion control but also the majority were side scrollers like kirby and donkey kong. nintendo has realized that the motion ride has come and gone and now their becoming another trend setter with not only a 3d handheld but a GLASSES-LESS 3d expirence, now look at sony and microsoft. sony with their big investment of 3d and also their jump into motion with the move looks honestly like their trying but still worthless and microsoft going full throttle with kinect with kinectimales and shit like that trying to get some of the waiiling your arms around profit looks like a big fat joke but the big red has moved on to oldschool roots and 3d so while they haven’t fully given up on their cash cow of wii sports and crap their at least trying something new and going back to their hayday asw well

My epic battle cry goes out to the upcoming game Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Here is what I love about this franchise. When I got the first Deus Ex title, I loved it. I spent weeks going through the game. I literally tried everything type of maneuver in the maps. Randomly shot people to see the outcome, stuck around to protect characters in order for them to remain in game, I basically tried to do anything I could. That was a great feature about the game. Now here is the kicker. After doing all this stuff and basically 5 years expanding my gaming library, I reloaded the game and went through again for old times sake and guess what. I WAS STILL FINDING NEW PATHS IN GAME. After 5 years I was still discovering new angles. That to me is what makes the Deus Ex series great. The second kind of moved away from that a little. Solid game but not as good as the first. If this new Deus Ex goes back to its roots then it will be another great game in which you are still finding new angles after 5 years.
P.S. The very first gaming magazine I ever got was in NYC in Grand Central station because on the cover was the announcement of Deus Ex 2. I literally flipped out when I saw that back in the day. This series will always have a place in my gaming heart.
I was not at E3 so I only have two comments to make. A few years back everyone attacked Sony for showing a video mock-up of KillZone2 when it wasn’t actual gameplay and while this was justified it seems like everyone is very excited about the 3DS while most games were not playable, no price was given and no release was provided. My second comment is really a question. When did peripherals like kinect and move start to overshadow the excitement about new games especially new IP’s not just sequels? Gamers buy games and quality fun games will move hardware and peripherals.
The 3DS stuff was, more than anything, just tech demos to show off the 3D effect. there was nothing playable but there where a few examples (most notably the MGS demo) that where a bit interactive to show that it wasnt just videos and actuall work went into it.
From the announcement of pre-order dlc coming for enslaved it looks like the twist in the story was leaked. It looks like the chick in the game is actually a robot, why would some developer ever do that to their game
My Battle Cry goes out to Microsoft’s Kinect.
Thank you for showing gamers everywhere what happens when creative and innovative ideas are replaced by a marketing exec wish list. Kerching!
OK..OK MY REAL BATTLECRY!
Deus Ex 3 looks cybertronically good. Seriously I’ve watched the awesome trailer about 20 times!
They’ve “augmented” *chortle* some of the best ideas from the first games with some really sweet gameplay ideas…the passion the developers have for the franchise is obvious to see in the art style and in the cheeky gameplay clip we saw. My jaw dropped.
Gamers may often look back on things with rose tinted spectacles, but I played the first game again just last year, and it STILL really works, every level can be tackled in multiple ways and if they can retain this sense of flexibility and the old atmosphere, but upgrade the gameplay and graphics I think it could be a potential GOTY.
I just hope they don’t feel the need to tag on multiplayer…
My battle cry goes out to all those perfectly timed sequels and remakes, primarily MK, MvC and OoT. these games and many others have changed, revolutionized and defined gaming since they were made and it saddens me that casual gaming and motion control is being pushed so hard that games like these cant be experienced in their prime as an entire generation did so many years ago.
BUT! These games give me hope that some devs havent forgotten the gamers who are now in their 20s and 30s who bought and made their games rise to level of succes theyre at now. On top of that, a whole new generation of gamers can experience them without the whole motion control or 3d nonsense being shoved in their face, without the games having some messed up control scheme that wasnt there back in the day and the cherry on top, updated graphics.
Hey guys, love the show as always. I would love for you to touch on an issue that is near and dear to lot of peoples hearts.
The MIA sequel to the Half-life series. Whether they are working on half-life 3 or half-life 2 episode 3. A lot of us are heartbroken that we are left in dark with a series that for a lot of us, got us into gaming. The end of half-life 2 episode 2 showed such promise for an epic sequel i cant help but feel by now i have blue balls. I dream of endless vent shafts and crowbar wielding power. My whole life, if there is one developer i can say i put all my trust in, its valve. They have always given me the greatest times in my gaming memories. If time is what its taking to make this game brilliant, than by all means do some work but with not even a mention at e3 2010 i find myself anxious for the first time when it comes to a title from valve. With all their new focuses on the consoles and with all this hype over portal i hope Freeman hasn’t been left beyond time and space once again.
Greetings my Lords of Leisure!!! How art thou?
While a lot of good came out of E3, I was overall very underwhelmed with what I saw.
I’ll first start with answering the Battle Cry. My fav game had to be a tie between Portal 2 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Although neither had any real gameplay to be seen at the show, both are games that have reputations of being unique and ground breaking and the possibilities excited me more than any other game I saw.
That said…the reason this year was such a let down to me was because it looked more like an Antiques Road Show rather than E3. Motion controls aside, there were a lot of big announcements for reviving beloved series across all platforms along with expected sequels. Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Twisted Metal, Donkey Kong, Goldeneye, Kid Icarus, Mortal Kombat, XCOM, etc. While I’m extremely pumped to play some of these, I can’t help but notice none of the big 3 putting ANY effort into starting new iconic franchises. When was the last time Nintendo announced a new character to add to their roster of Mario’s, DK’s, and Link’s? Microsoft is REACHing (pun intended) the end of many of their killer app series like Gears of War and Halo, and I wonder if next year all I’ll be seeing are spin off’s rather than new IP’s. And Sony had the one new IP I desperately wanted to see most not even show…Last Guardian. The most exciting thing for me about E3 every year is to see what new series I have to look forward to…there weren’t any this year.
Goldeneye, Twisted Metal, and MK are all classics of past gens; where are the classics of THIS gen? My point is, the companies are playing it too safe by sticking to series with already established fan bases. And if they keep being so short sighted gamers are going to have nothing new to look forward to the next few years.
My battle cry goes out to Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. There aren’t many games that I can play co-op with my wife, this game not only looks great, but it has a female lead character which my wife can (sort of) relate to. The gameplay looks simple and very fun, something that she might be able to play easily and enjoy. I have tried to get her to play 3rd person shooters and other such multiplayer games, but being a non-gamer, she just takes cover while I clear the room for her, (like a true gentleman). I hope that this game is a success and many more come to follow in its path, so that I spend time with my wife doing something I like, but she can also enjoy.
My battle cry goes out to incognito games. They have made some amazing titles in the past like the resistance series. But for some strange reason they dropped an immensely popular game and never made a sequel which i am totally disappointed about. The game i am of course talking about is the mighty Warhawk! True the last DLC kind of sucked but it was no reason just to drop such a popular franchise in the making. What are your opinions on this?
My favourite game of E3 was either Rage or DJ Hero 2 but as my one day old DJ Hero controller has just broke it will say it is Rage.
The graphics are amazing but also the gameplay looks great, a mix of FPS’s like bioshock and fallout with lots of traditional gun play, plus its coming from id who created the fps so bound to be good can’t wait to play it.
Whats Up!!! My Bloodknights of Genocide!!! My Mages of Dementia!!! How art’s thou. My battle cry goes out to E3 on the PS3 home. I’ve never been to an E3 event and I know that many people wanted to see what E3 was all about this year. But I really enjoyed how PS3 tried to capture more people into using PS Home in order to catch a glimpse of the digital show floors they had available. I’m glad that Playstation continues to support this software, and gives people an additional reason to go into Playstation Home. I myself wasn’t a big fan of home but I reinstalled it in order to get the digital goodies they had to offer and to see the digital show floor of their E3 booths. I think this was a push in the right direction on what Sony needs to do to make home more appealing , rather than it feeling like “this extra icon on my Playstation that if I click it will take away hard drive space”.
My Battle Cry goes to Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
After seeing the leak of their behind-closed-doors E3 demo and the few interviews they gave, my hopes for this title have raised even higher. I love what they did with the new art style and their take on what made the original Deus Ex the gem that it was.
It’s great to see when a new developer has a clear goal on what to do with a beloved franchise and I salute these guys for doing it justice.
I hope we will get the sequel the original deserved and seeing the things that I mentioned above I’m quite sure we will.
Do we even need E3??
I Know I know… offcause we do,but if we go 3 years back at E3 there where titles that where announced at the game show,we had´nt heard about because,it was first announced at E3.My point is,(this year)there wherent a single game we had´nt heard about before E3 eccept Twisted Metal and Portal 2 wich i thought looked promessing and glad to hear about, but i must admit i was really disapointed this year, cause We/I did´nt get the mind blowing effect at all or is it just me??
Any way,my battlecry goes out for Starcraft II simply because i have been waithing 7-8 years for this game, and yes it does look like old milk on a new bottle but, there are some new elements to the game, that makes it cool, and makes me what to play it,besides the fact that it is Starcraft.btw.. am i the only one that still feels ass-raped by Blizzard?? im referring to “we are gonna make this game into 3 games, instead of 1″.
Finding out Metal Gear Rising will be on the PS3. It was the number one thing I wanted to know going into E3. I’m really excited to see the direction its going in. Looks fast and fun. But right now I am loving the classic sneaking experience of Metal Gear Peace walker on my new PSP 3000.
