What’s up everybody!!! DK here kicking off yet another week of EPICNESS with this week’s Member BattleCries. If you haven’t watched EBC Skirmish 063 as of yet or checked out this week’s topic starter post (What the hell is wrong w/you?), then lemme clue you in. This week we’re taking on the (somewhat sensitive) topic of the best console exclusives…ya know, those gems that you rush out and BUY A SYSTEM FOR??? We’ve asked you to talk up your favs and let us know which franchise exclusives you swear by and so far, you all are responding rather well.
Now, lemme say this out of the gate gang…KEEP THE CONVERSATION CONSTRUCTIVE! I know these things get heated, passionate, whatever, but we’re here to discuss the games we LOVE, not the ones we HATE. So, with that in mind (and out of the way), let’s kick things off with this week’s first MBC which comes from Axe Head Jinxstar and goes out to the most bad-ass console exclusive character of all…
Jinxstar says:
My Battle cry goes to God of War. A franchise that defined the meaning of “Scale”. A Franchise that had some amazing story from start to finish. A franchise where you get to kill gods.
This is my favorite franchise. Everything from pioneering QTE’s which are commonplace anymore to most games in some way or another. The game was amazing as is perfectly paced with great systems for upgrades and otherwise. Pacing is something that should not be overlooked. God of War has a very good formula for story delivery and a great story too. Steal Pandoras box to find forgiveness for slaughtering your own family and kill the god that created you and trained you to be the most bad ass guy around…
There is just too much good to be said about the God of War franchise. Huge boss battles, great controls, great story telling and delivery, Great characters, Great atmosphere and scale… even on the PSP. I could go on for a while but I just feel that all around it’s a pretty damn good franchise.
END
Well, I think it’d be pretty difficult to argue with that! God of War is EASILY one of the best things Sony has going with the PlayStation and perhaps one of the biggest system sellers in the world. Well, at least that’s what I think…What about YOU? Let us know your thoughts on God of War in the comments section below and as always, feel free to sound off about ANYTHING pertaining to the game’s industry over on this week’s topics starter post where you can SUBMIT A NEW TOPIC:
SUBMIT YOUR MEMBER BATTLECRY IN THE COMMENTS SECTION HERE.
That’s all for now, but check back tomorrow to see which Member BattleCry gets featured right here on EpicBattleAxe.com. Ya never know…it just might be yours!
Later,
DK

Can’t argue with the God of War series. I wasn’t a big fan of the first one but the second one was outrageously awesome and set my expectations beyond high.
All the GoW 3 trailers look like my expectations will be met so I’d say that it would indeed persuade me to get a PS3, if I didn’t have one already.
Glad to see my post up there. GOW is just amazing. I have been thinking about it for a while and well… I was kind of torn between this and Zelda but int he end I never bought a Nintendo console just for Zelda… I did however buy a PSP just for GOW. It is that game to me that is just amazing. Just double platinumed GOW and GOW2… It’s all just amazing to me.
Thanks DK for posting my short rant. Thanks to the EBA crew as well. I love your site and podcast. Keep up the amazing work and I’ll keep listening and spreading the good word.
My battlecry is for the Metal Gear Series, I missed the start early on with Metal Gear Solid for the ps1, but after my first time playing MGS2 Sons of Liberty on the PS2 I was hooked.
MGS has a lot going for it that some other titles plainly just avoid. With every entry in the series Mr. Kojima aims to provide a layered (although at times head scratching) universe, amazing cutscenes, and a methodical pace, bucking contemporary trends and establishing the series time and time again as fresh, whether it be the unprecedented foundation of stealth in MGS1, folding in first person controls in Sons of Liberty, adding CQC and a camouflage system in Snake Eater or having the stones to put the revered Solid Snake out to pasture.
It should come as no surprise that my first paycheck at my summer job went to picking up a PS3 MGS4 bundle.
I recently bought a PSP in anticipation for Peace Walker, and although I’ve had it for several months now, Peace Walker will be my first purchase. Whereever there is Metal Gear, I will be sure to follow.
My BattleCry goes out to Final Fantasy Versus XIII that is exclusive for the PS3 and one of the main reasons why I own the system over any other. When I first saw the teaser trailers for it, I was instantly reminded of FFVII with a similar style in looks and since then I have been screaming out to have that instead of the normal XIII. If you have seen the teaser trailers then you will understand as it comes across to me a darker FF game which we have not seen since VIII but looks a lot more badass and metal as opposed to having a J-pop theme to the game for a romantic love story.
So I have high hopes for this game to bring a different battle system as no game footage has been shown or leaked, as well as a more elusive story plot instead of save the world jobbie (maybe not but a man can dream) And I hope it surpasses FFVII and to become this gens best rpg.
My Battle Cry goes out to Uncharted 2 because it was the reason i got me a Ps3. I was thinking a long time about getting a Ps3 in addition to my X360 and PC but i wasnt really eager to do it until Uncharted 2 hit the Stores.
I eventually bought it anyway due to God of War 3 cause i am a big fan of the Franchise but i made my final decision when the Uncharted 2 bomb dropped.
The good variety of gameplay elements, top notch graphics, genius voice acting, a storyline like one of the great Indiana Jones movies and a really fun multiplayer made we wanna have this game so badly i cant even describe it.
I am really looking forward till the day comes when Uncharted 3 will be announced just to see if Naughty Dog can elevate this level of quality even higher.
god of war collection for outside the states…
get the fuck on with it sony! >:(
You can import it here, like i did. http://www.axelmusic.com
God of War almost made me buy a PSP. But I was just too poor. Definitely agree with everything this series does right and can’t wait for the new one. It is a big system seller and, for me, a Slurpee seller.
My Battle Cry goes out to the Gears of War and Mass Effect franchises. These two franchises have proven to be the future definitive franchises for Microsoft if Halo Reach is the last Bungie Halo game. These are games that have garned much applause from the industry and fans and can definitely sell systems when the third in each series are announced.
I also admit that I am planning on picking up a PS3 this summer for certain games, the two being God of War and Killzone. While God of War is an obvious choice along with others like Uncharted, I have played Killzone 2 before and find it to be a fun and overlooked game by many people, due to the constant overflow of FPS games, but it is one that has a unique feel to it that is worth playing in my view.
Nintendo, on the other hand, has been falling due to the over-reliance on the classic franchises. Now I am not the biggest Zelda fan, it is a game that I always have a hard time getting into, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t great. What I am saying is that while you say companies like Ubisoft are bleeding their franchises, Nintendo has been doing that for years an I believe has finally hit the point where third party developers have to step in to reboot their franchises example: Metroid Other M.
Having just had surgery, for the last week I have had plenty of time to play a rented copy of Dante’s Inferno. Rented because money is not an easy thing for a guy like me to come by these days(because of the surgery, and also life ain’t always easy). The point is I’m glad I only rented it because I was pretty excited about this game, but being told to be lazy for a week gave me plenty of time to play this title, and I gathered up all 1000 achievement points in about 20 hours of playtime. This is the first time I got all 1k points from a game, and it wasn’t hard.
It got me thinking about the value of a game, and how some games are clearly and should be more valuable than others. I’m talking about release prices, although I did enjoy Dante’s bastardized telling of the tale, it is not worth 60 dollars to me as a person who also has to pay rent, utility bills, medical bills, gold membership fees, ect.
Aren’t we supposed to be in a recession!?!
What I propose is that games be priced what they are worth. How about a little honesty with our games these days? Can’t there be a panel of non biased gamers out there to determine the overall worth of a game? Dante’s Inferno, although fun and entertaining for a brief moment should not be the same price as God of War, clearly the man hours were not spent to make this into a top quality title, so why should it get a top quality price. I hope I made my point, and I hope my blathering is read and concurred with.
Also I am new to shouting a BattleCry, so I just wanted to say I enjoy your show quite a lot and and I have a fond respect for Tony, Dan, and Brent, and I think that your different tastes and humors form a fantastic trio. Keep it up!
My Battle Cry goes out to The Last Guardian and its creator Fumito Ueda. While this is not technically a franchise game, this is the man who brought Shadow of the Colossus, a consistent top ten of the decade entry, and Ico to the PS2. With The Last Guardian being so close in style and gameplay to those to titles, its easy to see it as a spiritual successor. I thoroughly loved Shadow and the new trailer for The Last Guardian was perfect in almost every way, with beautiful music, once again from Kow Otani, an already moving story, and inventive game play. This game will make me buy a PS3, if I have to beg for the money. Of course this is on the assumption that I won’t already have one for God of War 3 which is the only other game that could make me buy a console.
***By the way, I’m travesty, just wasn’t logged in***
I can’t say that there are many franchises that I’ve got a hard on enough to go out and buy a new system for, but individual games there are plenty.
After buying a 360 and a Wii, I bought a PS3 last year in anticipation of a whole slew of games: inFamous, Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain…and now any multiplatform game that is about equal in quality between the PS3 and 360 I will buy it on the PS3, with the exception of multiplatform multiplayer games (Modern Warfare 2, basically), after 3 RRoDs I don’t want to buy a game and not be able to play it so any game that isn’t a Microsoft exclusive I treat as a Sony exclusive.
Oh yeah, Nintendo. I haven’t turned that thing on in years. I enjoy a good Metroid/Mario/Zelda game as much as the next person, but we haven’t seen any new ones since launch (New Super Mario Bros Wii is NOT new). Sure they have gotten a few hardcore games from third party devs, but I’m not even sure I care anymore. Nintendo leaders seem to think they know what everyone wants because they have sold something like a bajillion units, but some of the things they say like their users not caring about HD makes me think they aren’t any different than Bobby Kotick. I understand you need to make your shareholders happy to keep your job and the ones with Activision and Nintendo are probably very happy, but I’m really starting to get sick of the big N.
My battle cry goes out to the PS3. This generation they have clearly more high quality exclusives than any other major console out today. MGS4, Uncharted 1 and 2, Resistance 1 and 2, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, MotorStorm, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destruction and a Crank in Time, Demon Souls, MAG, Fat Princess, Valkyria Chronicles, inFamous are just some of the great exclusives for the PS3. The games that i have mentioned are not just high quality but some are very original and new IP’s for this generation. Also with great exclusives like Heavy Rain, God of War 3, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Yakuza 3, Gran Turismo 5, Modnation Racers, possibly Resistance 3 and Angent also on the horizon it only get better for the PS3.
Just have to applaud Jinxstar ther, excellent choice sir (poss Madam? Sorry:)
I am a Sir and thank you. Anyone who likes please feel free to add me on PSN. Same name as here.
My battle cry goes out to Goldeneye for the N64. I know it’s over ten years old now, but I honestly still know people who have, in the last year, went to a pawn shop to pick up a used N64 and Goldeneye game to play for the weekend. Besides Halo, I can’t think of a better game for drinking games for get-togethers of up to four buddies, and along with Super Smash Bros. is easily one of the best party games in the history of electronic entertainment.
My battle cry goes out to MGS4 for being one of the first exclusives that handled the new and mostly strange to many developers technology of gaming in 2006 that made the developers familiar with the cell
I think gaming for the PS3 wouldn’t be where it is now because of team kojima who created one of the most epic and mostly awesome gaming series ever and most importantly handled the new tech back then that set the bar for next-gen gaming
And up until now game developers still use the knowledge that was found by team Kojima and use it wisely and use it to their advantages.Like Uncharted 2 just look what they have done with the PS3 and combining millions of polygons to make Beautiful graphics, large amount of environment and a good gameplay mechanic that has so many things put into it.
I can’t wait for GoW 3 and if I didn’t already have a PS3 I would be getting one soon in anticipation, but I saved my Battle cry for Uncharted 2.
The consistency of detail implemented into this title is so impressive. The graphics, THE VOICE ACTING (yeah, it needs to be in caps), the story, the controls, everything is so tight, I can’t think of another title that rivals Uncharted 2 as a complete game. Playing it is such a satisfying experience that it’s hard to find a place to stop.
Not only is Uncharted 2 fun to play, apparently it’s fun to watch too because I have a few friends that experienced the whole game without even thinking to ask for the controller.
As if the single player experience weren’t enough, I was surprised to find the multiplayer extremely addictive with a number of game types including (one of my favorites) co-op where you can team up with two other players to play through environments from the single player campaign with new objectives. These are very challenging and very fun and will keep the dust from collecting on your disk for months to come.
