With Call of Duty: World at War‘s four player co-op being such a big success, many of us thought it would also be introduced into Modern Warfare 2. Although the introduction of Co-op will be at play in the new title, it will stick to a two player “sweet spot”.
Also, instead of a two player Co-op campaign. Co-op will be introduced in a “Special Ops” mode.
Robert Bowling, director of communications/community manager at Infinity Ward, explained to Videogamer.com the decision saying, they didn’t want to “ruin the story by cramming co-op into it”. He also clues us in on how Special Ops will play by stating that “It’s about playing over and over again, getting a better time” and that“it’s about challenging a friend going in on co-op and trying to beat it on veteran.”
Hmmm…interesting.
We’ll see how the game mode plays out, when the Modern Warfare 2 comes out November 10.

Good, they’re right this is a sweet spot for the type of gameplay you had from Modern Warfare 1 and when I was constantly trying to complete the whole game on Veteran (still haven’t mastered the plane) the only thing I could think was “This would all be so awesome with just 1 more player”.
Gears of War on the other hand needs to realise that it needs to open up playtime for Baird and Cole in the next game. 4 Player co-op, with the 4 players splitting into 2 sets of 2 player co-op on some chapters.
