So up to this point all we knew about the new Modern Warfare 2 Map Pack was, well…the maps. We knew that the pack includes 2 reworked classic COD4 maps, Crash and Overgrown, along with the 3 new maps Bailout, Storm and Salvage. What we didn’t know was the price…and now that we know most of us probably wish we didn’t.
The voice of MW2, Robert Bowling, recently made a quick stop onto Major Nelson’s podcast to share some information about the Stimulus Map Pack which is coming to the Xbox 360 on March 30th. Apart from telling us what we already knew he finally dropped the officially price point of 1200 Microsoft Points…or $15 for those of you without a MP/Real Money converter. So, let’s see…that’s 25% of the entire game price and more/equal to the price of some XBL/PSN games.
Interesting.
So there you have it, the Mapathy battlefield has been set. In one corner you have MW2 with its 5 maps for $15 and in the other corner you have BC2 with 2 maps for $0 (and an obvious love for showcasing this fact). Now, the ultimate question isn’t which one you’ll choose (who WOULDN’T download the free one?), but rather if MW2 players will fork over a relatively large amount of money to pick up the Stimulus Map Pack. Is it worth it? Is it not? Is this the gamer’s chance to speak with their wallets or a fairly priced bit of DLC that will truly enhance the core experience???
Think it all over and lets us know in the comments section below!

will it be 15 bucks for PC users? Or free through steam like the last ones? The cod 4 and waw were all free, but cost on xbox
man, i hope this does not apply for us PC users…
Kind of a rip off don’t you think?
Biggest rip off of the decade, bigger than bioshock 2 on-disc DLC
I am pretty sure they will charge us 15 bucks on the PC because that was the point on binding the game with a STEAM obligation…
But still – dont forget, you will pay 15bucks for 5maps, which 3 are really brand new, and not to mention that thanks to IWnet you will probably only few times being able to play (since there is no way to choose a map etc.)
I am going to skip that Infinty Jew mappack…
Not to forget that Robert Bowling mentioned on the interview that ther will be a new patch (free of charge) timed with the release of the DLC, which will get all maps into Hardcore Headquarters and a Hardcore Moshpit preset to choose from…
Not that it aplies to me, but this is a total rip off of the people that have MW2.
I thought normally that map packs were around 5-10 bucks? but 15??? and I doubt that they didnt have this ready when shipping the game.
that is RIDICULOUS!!!! 5 maps? 5 maaaps? for 15 bucks? are you freaking serious?!!! I don’t know what is worst, this or the shenanigans of GameStop!
Not only the idea that this maps were already planned and not included in the disk for milking gamers, but also they are charging you 15 dollars more for an already $60 game is quite a stretch.
You hear people all the time saying “oh! the poor industry, is so hurt because of gamestop” well when I see news like this, I think it’s well deserved. Infinity Ward doesn’t have anything to do with this(they already got paid for making the game) this is just Activision and that god awful greed of them.
DUDE JUST THINK ABOUT IT!!! they already sold 7 million copies of the game!!! do they really need those 15 bucks? I really don’t think so……
Speaking of Bioshock, 2K confirmed DLC content being on the disc

this is little less a rip off more of slap in the face to consumers, its basically a statement of we have made a game that sold like hot cakes and we know our rabid fans will buy anything we put out. besides it being a horrible glitched , hacked and broken game multiplayer wise why would i be inclined to pay 15 dollars for only 3 original maps and 2 remakes. the standard price was 800 magical coins for map packs. omg and if they bull bungie playlist move that requires you to buy these map packs , nothing less slaughtering from Kratos will ease my anger as a consumer.
An interesting point by a lawyer

I think the fact that I payed $60+ for a game that’s inferior to its predecessor (which I payed much less for) is the biggest rip-off. Not to mention that they’ll be releasing another COD every other year at full price, with its own set of dlc, and no more support for anything old.
As for on dic content, let’s not forget that capcom gave us cheap costumes on disc for us to buy, twice.
Buying MW2 on the PC was the first mistake.
Everyone will be charged the same amount – Activision has been aiming at this for a while now. It’s common knowledge.
Man, this is sad. I was really happy to see Crash being remade as that was my favorite map in CoD4. But at 15$ ? Thats a rip-ff. I’m not realy surprised though. We’re talking about Activision here. They almost seem to make efforts to be hated. You know whats worse in this case ? It will still sell like hot cakes and they know it.
Now, if there were some Spec-ops maps included, I think that would have been a fair price, but just a regular map pack containing 2 rehashed maps from CoD 4 ? I won’t be buying it. Definetly not until they lower the price.
Below are the official descriptions for the soon-to-be available environments.
Bailout – a multi-level apartment complex
Storm – an open industrial park littered with heavy machinery
Salvage – a snowy junkyard fortified by stacked debris and crushed cars.
Crash – a war-torn urban environment (CoD4)
Overgrown – features a massive dry creek bed (CoD4)
Lower the price and I’ll surely purchase it!
You can buy COD4 for $30 used…and get ALL the maps…In fact I argue that COD4 is STILL superior to MW2 except for graphics.
Sadly this will probably sell like hotcakes as two of my friends can already be quoted as saying “I’ll buy it no matter what it costs” but this is absolutely absurd. Not only was this game rushed to retail and has suffered numerous glitches that number greatly more than I feel like typing right now but now they are slapping consumers in the face. I applaud Battlefield for releasing their maps for free if only because it makes Activision and Infinity Ward look even more like tools. $15 dollars for 5 maps….2 of which are releases from the first Call of Duty Modern Warfare, Count me out faster than Wally West in an orgy.
Got to be joking.
They need to fix the game first, then make DLC.
Plus MW2 map-design is crap, so why should we believe MW2 DLC maps will be any better than the default MW2 maps.
I won’t buy a map pack for MW2, but no doubt a bunch of CoD fanboys will. A lot of people are moving to BC2 though, so maybe this DLC will fail.
