No EpicBattleCry This Week :[

Hey all. As I said in this week's episode of The Axe Factor, we won't be able to record EpicBattleCry this week. With DK still out of town and a last minute snag in Tony's schedule, we just weren't able to carve out the time to get together.

In light of today's news vis-a-vis Microsoft, that might not be such a terrible thing since we normally record on Tuesday and we would have completely missed out on discussing this dramatic reversal. In any case, we should be…

Today I 'ave been mostly rememberin': Metroid Games

As I am typing this, we're deep inside the annual summer gaming drought of 2013. The last interesting current gen game I played was Bioshock Infinite. I'm now waiting patiently for The Last of Us to drop through the mail slot. In the interim, I have amused myself by going back and playing a whole bunch of the old Metroid titles. And I've had an absolute blast doing so. It's been one of the most nostalgic and satisfying gaming periods of my entire life. I replayed and finished all five of the…

What is your greatest wish/expection for the new generation?

After some discussion with the axeheads I asked myself what I want out of the next generation of gaming. And my answer is suprising. |It is neither better grafics or better AI. It does not even have to do with hardware.

What I want from the next generation the most is the introduction of used game sales for digital games. As soon as one of the major platforms does that I will go all digital, never looking back.

So, what would you like to see?

EpicBattleCry - E3 2013 Special

Step one: its EpicBattleCry! E3 2013 has played host to exciting game news, dramatic moments, and, some would claim, out-and-out homicide. From EA dropping the AT-AT foot to Jack Tretton dropping the mic, this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo will certainly go down as one of the most memorable. With DK still on full-time looking-good-in-LA duty, Brent and Tony sat down to discuss Nintendo's showing at this year's show, the fallout (good and bad) from Sony and…

Gran Turismo 6 Wishlist

Well GT6 already has a lot of goodies announced:

-new physics engine

-new tire model

-new suspension model

-new aerodynamics model

-adaptive tesselation (whatever that may do, i guess better frame rates with more detailed models)

-new rendering engine

Then there's obviously new tracks/locations and new cars.

I want to know what you would like to see in addition to those features already mentioned. And which cars/tracks in…

Video Game Awards Idea - Please Share

The Spike VGA's in my opinion are a waste of time. It's the game media attempt to become more like mainstream media and doesn't recognize the unique characteristics of video games. It becomes more about the celebrity appearances and game reveals then about celebrating the achievements in video games throughout the past year and the people involved who dedicated their time to create those games.

I would love to see a Video Game Award Show that really is about the games and nothing…

The Axe Factor 119: Like Bringing a Nuke to a Fist Fight

Sleep after you're dead, its The Axe Factor! E3 is finally here and next-gen blood is already in the water. Tony Grice joins us as we discuss all the news coming out of the day-zero press events and stand witness to the opening salvo of the new console war.

NOTE: There was a problem with the audio quality on my recording and, while I've done all I can to minimize the effect, you're going to hear a buzzing sound while I'm speaking. Just…

One man's opinion on the PS3 vs X360 controller debate.

The PS3 controller is better.  I find it superior for shooters.  I have large hands, and the location of the thumb sticks has never once caused a concern.  I've heard, no joking, people complain about their thumbs hitting each other because the sticks are so close.  If the sticks are controlled with the tip of the thumbs, it is impossible for your thumbs to hit each other.  If you control the thumbsticks by placing the knuckle of your thumb over the stick, then my thumbs hit each other on…

I don't own the arcade anymore

I have been a ‘passive’ member of the clan of the Battle Axe for a long time now.  I’ve never actively been involved in discussions or written any blogs - mainly for 2 reasons:

  1. I’m a software developer by profession and have little or no incentive to be behind a keyboard in my own time (unless I am gaming of course...) and
  2. Most of all I have always thought that other people would fight my corner.

This week though I have finally had enough.  But before I…

Today I 'ave been mostly rememberin': Kabuki Quantum Fighter

Hello fellow Axeheads! Does anyone remember the NES title Kabuki Quantum Fighter? No? Anyone?

First, let us examine the word Kabuki. What exactly is Kabuki? Well... Kabuki is a very traditional Japanese type of play. Actors and actresses dress up in maiko or geisha style and perform dances. Sometimes there are…

How Microsoft is making reviews more relevant for next gen consoles

With next gen consoles just around the corner, and hopefully the truth one way or another about DRM, always online etc., I’m going to speculate how reviews will become more integral to our purchasing decisions.

I currently have a 360. I have a modest income and am a very passionate gamer. I play up to twenty hours a week, and have taken Monday off work to watch E3. With the recent news coming from Microsoft, I’ve been thinking how my gaming career might…

Bad news day

Just heard about the xbox internet requirements. This is one piece of news I was hoping was wrong since I'm in the military and can't always get an internet connection depending on where I am in the world. Guess that pretty much made my decision on not buying it unfortunately.

I'm Making A Game (Update 1)

Earlier this week I finished up the last game screen mock up which brings me to the end of the concept art phase. For now anyways as I'm sure there will be more concept work to do later. My new goal is to get a very rough prototype up and running so I have something that can actually be interacted with. I expect this to take a while because I'm using programs I've never used before and I haven't programmed anything in yeeears. So it might be a while before I update my progress here again.…

Major Kudos To Blizzard for the Spawning feature!

http://eu.battle.net/sc2/en/buy-now/spawning

In short: The spawning feature allows players with starter editions or WoL to be upgraded to HotS (or WoL), as long as someone in the party has that expansion.

I've always liked blizzard. They did some major missteps with Cataclysm and Diablo 3. But SC2 has always been good imho. But with the new spawning feature they've show how multiplayer DLC is properly…

The Axe Factor Poll!

How much does the Xbox One-Nvidia "scandal" bother YOU?
A lot. This is one step removed from the Killzone 2 pre-rendered E3 trailer0%
I don't care as long as the games look this good running on Xbox One hardware (which they probably will)0%
Not at all, people are being naive to think this practice doesn't happen all the time0%
I'll reserve judgement until we see if the games look noticeably different on Xbox One hardware0%
