Axehead Assembly #30: Cats! Cats! Cats!

Prepare to swap out the cheese on that giant mousetrap with some catnip because the Axehead Assembly is marking in your territory again!

On this week's 'All About the Axe' we pull a double header and talk about Miguel Ramos's EBA community game of the Generation discussion AND CornRpeople2's 10 Things Spelunky can teach you about life blog.

After that in the 'The Vanguard', we talk about multiplayer games. We debate whether local multiplayer is actually dead and go on to discuss our favorite online and offline MP experiences of the last generation (and of all time).

Along this rocky road, you'll hear about God of War: AscensionUnreal Tournament 2Timesplitters 3, Perfect Dark and Call of Duty: World at War. Then add in a dash of one man's obsessive love affair with Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and you have a Sonic strangling, Sigmund sucking, Donkey Kong fisting podcast on your hands!

All that and a lot more can be enjoyed right here:

My favorite local 'multiplayer' games were actually single player games a lot of the time. For example playing FTL, my girlfriend controlled the game while we gave her advice and voted on what decisions to make, then when we eventually died I would take over the controls.

Dungeon crawlers like Dungeon Master and Legend of Grimrock are a ton of fun to play with friends around. Name your team after your friends and solve puzzles together. Let one friend write down the spells or clues on paper and make maps.

Heavy Rain was a lot of fun to watch a friend play and discuss the decisions. Horror games can be a lot of fun to play with friends around too. One of my friends came over every day to watch me play through Deadspace.

Of course local multi-player games like Little Big Planet, or Civilization 5 have been a ton of fun for us too. My girlfriend, father, and I also have had a ton of great memories playing Minecraft online - which brought us together because I live on the opposite side of the world from him.

So I would say single-player, local multi-player, and online multi-player are all a ton of fun with friends and I wouldn't want to go without any one of them.

It would be awesome, if the axelords would put this podcast on a more prominent spot on the webpage, so that there is more discussion ongoing. Awesome episode btw :).

NBA2K15 Review

The NBA2K series has been one of the most dominant franchises in gaming. While some sports franchises rely on exclusivity deals to corner the market, NBA2K was able to do it the old fashioned way: make a far superior product to your competitor, and force them to close shop. This dominance allowed NBA2K to end the last console generation as the unchallenged king of basketball video games. 2K began the new console generation with another solid entry in the series. While NBA2K14 for the PS4 and…
