Axehead Assembly #31: Pixelated Junk Shooter

Prepare to grab an emergency nut-cup because the Axehead Assembly has an air rifle and a good bead on your balls!

In this week's "All about the Axe" we use Zane Wong's What the Robocop reboot should have been forum post (itself about the hilarious crowd-sourced Our Robocop Remake movie) as an excuse to launch into a conversation about all the different remakes, reboots, prequels and sequels to old 80's movies that have been clogging up Hollywood of late. In the segment you'll find a whole treasure trove of movie goodies like The Amazing Spiderman, Prometheus, Total Recall, Captain America, Star Wars, Blade Runner, Maximum Overdrive, Blood Sport and many more.

Then, in "The Vanguard", we discuss our best downloadable titles of the last generation. We pay homage to titles like Journey, The Walking Dead, Hotline Miami, Bastion, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, Mark of the Ninja and Duck Tales.

Add into that some Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Loadout and Batman: Arkham Origins plus some judgement calls on The Wolf Among Us - Episode 2 and you have a moon-theme forgetting, alligator spotting, hard junk shooting podcast on your hands!

All that and a lot more can be enjoyed right here:

I cant believe no one had Blood Dragon on their list but that just shows us how robust the downloadable games have been recently. My list in no particular order would be The Walking Dead, Journey, Stealth Inc, Hotline Miami, Duck Tales Remastered, Retro City Rampage, Blood Dragon, Brothers:ToTS, Call of Jaurez:Gunslinger.  I wish I could have played Bastion but alas I only have PS systems and my PC cant handle it so that sucks for me.

My top DL titles are probably:

1) Minecraft - I love the survival and creative aspects both.

2) Journey - It's a work of art that is beautiful in the graphics, music, and story.

3) FTL - A great rogue-like that gives you a feeling of exploring the universe.

4) The Walking Dead - The characters and plot line had me deeply engaged.

5) Monaco - A ton of fun to play with other people, online or local.

Honorable mention goes to Joe Danger which I didn't play much of but my Girlfriend was crazy for, it feels like a first party Nintendo game. Another honorable mention for Legend of Dungeon which is basically a multi-player remake of the original Rogue.

@Scott Blood Dragon almost made my list but in a way even though it is standalone i still look at it as Far cry 3 Dlc. Picked up Call of juarez: Gunslinger last week in the psn sale and it is a great arcade shooter. The most fun ive had in a shooter since Bulletstorm.

@Ian I am really interested in playing Monaco. i want to play it localy but i dont own a xbox 360 anymore. Does the local co-op work on pc ?

@Brak: Yeah I played Monaco online with some axeheads and locally with my girlfriend. I used two PS3 controllers to play it on my PC, but you could use a keyboard or whatever.

Leigh Alexander Gets Fisked

So Leigh Alexander at Gamasutra, Luke Plunkett at Kotaku and Dan Golding (who has written for many places), have written articles on the same day, on the same subject. That's an interesting coincidence. It is also interesting that Chris Plante over at Polygon also had a very similar article, covering the same issues, on the same day though it was written more as a summary of the past week. Now there are time zones to consider but these were all published within 24…

Thursday Throwdown: Let's talk Twitch and life just before marriage...

White America, on the cusp of thirty, something happens... You're about to get married, and you find yourself in the grocery store with a cart full of salt for your water softener, a 20 pound bag of dog food, and a bottle of liquid plumber while you peruse through the romance novels in the book section next to the gift cards. Is there a reason you're buying the latest Susan Wiggs novel? Well yeah, your nana's ninety-third birthday was this past Tuesday, but you've been…
