Effective Marketing is Effective: 4ThePlayers

So in the comments section of the last EBC I outlined several reasons why I decided to cancel my PS4 preorder and hold out until Infamous Second Son. Then this piece of media hit...

I immediately began to regret my decision. So much so, that I spent countless hours hitting the refresh button on Amazon hoping they would get more PS4's in stock. Luckily they eventually got some more bundles in and I ordered one. I just wanted to share that little story with you guys here in the community because I think this is absolutely one of the greatest pieces of video game marketing that has ever been put out. I've had a commercial similar to this running in my head ever since Nintendo began to struggle with the Wii U. To my surprise it was Sony who actually did it and pulled it off. It really shows that Sony gets it in terms of how they plan to make this console a success. I would love for the Axehead Army to share their thoughts in the comments section down below.

After I saw this I immediately looked for my ps1 and hooked it up to my TV. A big smile went across my face and my cousins and I started to reminisce about how we used to play this game or that game. The conversation ultimately lead to everyone agreeing that we're all getting Ps4s. Really great marketing piece Sony.

It's a great commercial for gamers. For me, my fondest memories are with the Super Nintendo. Now I gravitate more to Playstation since I play more mature games, though. I was planning on getting a PS4 near launch, but when Watchdogs was delayed it left with just Killzone Shadowfall to play. I'll get it when Infamous Second Son is released.

Their new marketing team is earning their pay, that's for sure. Nostalgia is also a hell of a tool when used correctly. The direction and tone being set with the PS4 launch and ad push has me genuinely excited about next gen.

@Ry Marinara: The video pretty much punched me in the gut with nostalgia since I've grown up with the Playstation since almost it's inception. The sound effects of Crash Bandicoot and gameplay of Tekken got to me LOL

@Abel2Disable: I also have very fond memories of the Super Nintendo since it was the console that got me into gaming. It's unfortunate Watchdogs was delayed. I hope it comes out as a polished product once it releases. I was looking forward to checking it out but don't mind the wait to much since there are other titles I can play like Killzone Shadow Fall, ACIV, and Knack.

@Pernicious Panda: I'm really happy Sony has a new marketing team and strategy. That's one of the biggest issues Sony had in the early years of the PS3. They kept trying to be clever with extremely strange commercials that didn't work. Remember that crying baby WTF LOL

This video gave me goosebumps. The sound of PS1 booting up. Oh. My. God. Playing Metal Gear Solid on PS1, my all time favourite game, i became who i am today. I had a couple of PS1's then a couple of PS2's but something snapped and i jumped to Xbox 360 ship during current generation. I recently got me a PS3 aswell, catching up on exclusives. I have my mind set on PS4 as my next generation. I cant wait.

P.S. That PS4 boot-up sound does not tickle my pickle though.

Funny, cause a friend hit me up on this one. Posted it on my FB wall stating "Y'all remember?" - Of course I do.

And after listening to the last, I think it was AF, I immediately had to check out older PS One game intros on YT, starting with Battle Arena Toshinden!

What fun we had and probably will have on the next one.

As I live in Germany and my next trip to the US is planned for March, I'll gift myself a belated Christmas present when I'm there. Hopefully Watch Dogs will be out by then.

PS: Let's have an out of the box 2013 PS4 Version of Marble Madness, Mr. Cerny! - Let's really sink our teeth in that nostalgia...

@Esso: Same here! Brought back lots of great memories :)

@Jerome Hemmersbach: I love looking up old PS1 intros. One of my favorites its Tekken 2's cg cutscene. So badass!

I love this piece of marketing right here, this made me remember the countless hours that I spent playing games that I didn't understand at the time (my native tongue is Spanish). In the video I love the transition from Playstation classic to the re-designed PSOne, which in fact not too many people noticed. I have'd owned all Playstation consoles and I'm not about to let them down. I pre-ordered my PS4 with Battlefield 4 but I'm also planning on getting Call of Duty G and Killzone SF(I don't discriminate). I love you guys, I'm about to cry..........

@Izzy Ortiz: I also loved the transition between console redesigns in the video! I've owned all the Playstation consoles and love them too :)
