EpicBattleCry - Is The Resident Evil Remake A Scary Good Idea Or Just Scary?

With recent word that the original Resident Evil is being remade (again), team EBC fields a question from Marcis Jekabsons (@marcoolio1) regarding our excitement (and fear) levels pertaining to the game while gathering our thoughts on the state of the franchise as a whole.

I actually am excited about the Resident Evil Remaster. Mostly because I've never played it. My first Resident Evil game was the second one, which still to this day is my favorite game in the series.

The series itself is something dear to my heart and I love every bit of it (except Operation Raccoon Shit). While I am sad that it has lost it's survival horror roots, I still find this series hard to resist. I can't explain it.

I recently tried to play Resident Evil 1-3, however they don't work very well on modern PCs. That is another reason I am excited about these news. I hope RE2 and RE3 get remade aswell.

I never got around to playing RE1 on PS1. Started with RE 2. Which is the best RE IMO. Later i bought Gamecube limited RE 4 edition. And i played RE remake on it. Also RE Zero. I think they really should reboot this franchise. Because it's just a shadow of its former self. RE 6 is a disaster. If this remaster turns out to be successful, they'll probably remaster RE Zero as well. And if you never played RE 1 , you should consider buying this.

What should they do with popular franchises when they start to fade away? Scrap them, or reboot them? I think Tomb Raider answers that very well.

I'm 2 ways about the re-re-re-remake ( so much for re to the re topic). I have the game on wii so I will be able to play it and see the better version. However the idea of seeing a HD remake gets me semi excited. And then the next part hits that going forward a 1080p high def background is not going to look any better going into a 4k age (PC atleast).

From the looks of things everything is simply going to be upscaled prerendered scenes and not fully 3D polygon models. But then you have Republique on iOS with fully 3D rendered scenes and you expect that Capcom being the bigger company should be able to easily pull this off. After looking at the visual aspect you come to the actual game and from the comments on the Veronica HD release simply says that the controls no longer holds up.

It might have been a better idea to indeed reimagine the game. Same setting, same story but change the gameplay and change the environment.

....... I find it funny that people alreday complain about this game before its even released. Also its a PORT of a REmake. Ive played and still play this game on gamecube and wii because this is what a Resident Evil is supposed to be. To all the complainers out there who have been making there voices be heard i find it funny that from what ive can deduce from there comments thay never even played this game before. The game was released in 2002 and has been a Nintendo exclusive for a long time now, but finally none Nintendo people will actually get a bonafied survival horror Resident Evil game.

If you dont buy this game or at least give it a chance you will cheat yourself out of the best Resident Evil game to date and then any chance of more games like this being released will not happen.

If your truely want a Survival Horror Resident Evil game you have to support this game (i will because im one of those who comlpained since Resident Evil stopped being Resident Evil) and show CAPCOM that oldschool still matters.

So stop complaning and go buy this game when its released.......

Totally on board with this. The original RE is one of my all time favorites. And the remake took everything I already loved about it and made it prettier (plus a few new things). I for one would be disappointed if they try to "modernize it". Keep the tank controls please! It wouldn't be Resident Evil without them. Backing away from danger while still facing it, having to stop to fire your gun, the controls make the game suspenseful and create opportunities for genuine fear. Not just the jump scares, but what true horror REALLY is... when you get goosebumps and when the hairs on your neck stick up. Chilling. If they add action controls then all of this will be lost. As will my interest in playing it.
