Raise a glass (or a goblet...), EpicBattleCry is BACK in video form and kicking more ass than ever before! This week, we're camped out inside the rumor mill to talk about potential dragon jacking in Skyrim, praying that Prey 2 isn't in development hell, harnessing the power of our inner hacker to see how it feels to be bitch-slapped by Microsoft's ban hammer and otherwise getting you up to speed on what's what in the world of gaming.
We also embark on a discussion about the role of character development in video games after spending some quality time with two very different games - Dishonored and XCOM: Enemy Unknown.
So, check out the show notes below and be sure to chime in with your thoughts on all or all of the topics discussed!
Cheers!

Topic - Developing Character
With the month of October bringing big releases in both established franchises like Resident Evil and Assassin’s Creed alongside new or niche titles like XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Dishonored, the EBC crew breaks down what role the actual characters in the game play in determining our perception of the experience. How important is it for the player to relate to the characters? To what lengths do developers need to go to develop a sense of association? Does gameplay and atmosphere trump identifiable or enjoyable characters? We discuss on Skirmish 168 of EBC!

I just finished Dishonored!!! while it may fall short in some areas, the immersion, gameplay, and the visual style is well worth your time. it reminds me of playing old splinter cell games with the visual look of something you would expect from bethesda, and a splash of bioshock. a must play for any stealth fan.
now they have developed the world and mechanics for this solid franchise, i can wait for the next installment to tweak and flush out the weaknesses into something amazing. i personally would like to see more enemy types, night missions, shadows for cover, better sword play and a more production in the story scenes. what do you think?
Comment by Raminder Singh on October 18, 2012 at 3:41pm glad to see the AXE Lords Thriving!
I felt a little nostalgic seeing that first image with the chapel tower again.
Comment by Our Lord Despair on October 18, 2012 at 3:55pm so friggin happy!
So who cut together the video? Cause i thought it went away cause of time restraints. Man I love the photos that pop up occasionally (the dragon jacking one was fucking funny as!!!)

Comment by Marc Schade on October 18, 2012 at 4:26pm I'm glad that you were able to bring this format back. This was the way I was introduced to the Axe and I really think it's great. But since then my habits changed a bit and I would love it if you could also make a Audio only version available like back in the day.
One word: Woooooo!
Comment by FrankeeNL on October 18, 2012 at 4:49pm Okay, so everyone is probably stoked that EBA is back in videoformat, and I'd hate to be the buzzkiller over here, but I actually listen to the podcast when I'm on the go. So uhm... Could I have the mp3 format back please?
I love seeing that the podcast is back in video form. I usually listen to the podcast while dealing with the hell of Los Angeles traffic. I find it therapeutic. The sarcastic rage of DLC shenanigans and my rage for traffic seem to coexist quite well.
Are the podcasts still going to be uploaded in audio form on the site?
Comment by Human Metal on October 18, 2012 at 5:03pm The new intro is so friggin' awesome. Love the upgrade.

This week, we investigate the news that Microsoft decieved the world by running their E3 demos on high-end Nvidia gaming rigs and why the company suddenly finds itself in such troubled waters. Plus, we examine Tom Clancy's The Division, go hands-on with Remember Me, The Last of Us, and more!

As I am typing this, we're deep inside the annual summer gaming drought of 2013. The last interesting current gen game I played was Bioshock Infinite. I'm now waiting patiently for The Last of Us to drop through the mail slot. In the interim, I have amused myself by going back and playing a whole bunch of the old Metroid titles. And I've had an absolute blast doing so. It's been one of the most nostalgic and satisfying gaming periods of my entire life. I replayed and finished all five of the…
After some discussion with the axeheads I asked myself what I want out of the next generation of gaming. And my answer is suprising. |It is neither better grafics or better AI. It does not even have to do with hardware.
What I want from the next generation the most is the introduction of used game sales for digital games. As soon as one of the major platforms does that I will go all digital, never looking back.
So, what would you like to see?
This bold statement was made by Nintendo and features on the Polygon site.

Personly i do, considering that most of the games made today and which are gonna be made for the Next-Generation of konsoles will be like before.

Step one: its EpicBattleCry! E3 2013 has played host to exciting game news, dramatic moments, and, some would claim, out-and-out homicide. From EA dropping the AT-AT foot to Jack Tretton dropping the mic, this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo will certainly go down as one of the most memorable. With DK still on full-time looking-good-in-LA duty, Brent and Tony sat down to discuss Nintendo's showing at this year's show, the fallout (good and bad) from Sony and…

The Last Of Us is a slow game, intentionally slow, because it has a story to tell and takes the time to do it. Naughty Dog knows that if you're not making an "action" game, then you need to engage…Continue
