GAUNTLET:
My entire opinion about this whole "violence in video games" pretty much boils down to this: If the population of a nation isn't mentally capable to comprehend what's going on in a game and how that differs from reality, then that nation has failed in creating educated and capable human beings. The problem therefore does not lie within games, but in something much, MUCH bigger and complex. Understandably it's easier for somebody to point out something to be the reason behind these problems, but this is only treating a very shallow symptom and not the cause itself.

Tony "grizzled voiced" Grice has technical issues?! Bummer..
I don't mind some old school mechanics in modern games. Do a decent mix of the two can make for a very interesting title if done right. Old school games are still playable purley out of a game mechanic view. They only need a graphical touch up to make the games look crisp on modern monitor and to make the games support the newer resolutions.
Dead Space 3 seems pretty cool even if the scare factor is limited but they have added co-op in a dark kind of scary game. Not many games like this has co-op so this can be very fun to play with a friend or a person who is kind of like a friend. This type of game does keep players co-operating instead of putting eachother in harms way for fun and this is good 'cause you still will be friends after playing, if you are at the same kind of gaming level, since some games like this can destroy friendships forever.
Keep up the awesome Axelords and Axeheads! Keep cleaving things and I hope Tony will be back soon! Stay Frosty!
Comment by Alexander Arts on January 24, 2013 at 11:52am The title card thing has Oliver of Ni No Kuni, so I am looking forward to hearing about that. I have just ordered it online (They are only selling the Japanese version here in Taiwan, so I have to import the US version for English.)
Comment by Aussie Legend on January 24, 2013 at 12:59pm I'm always down for some good old school game design, whilst I'm not one of these gamers who is particularly romanticized by a game just because its retro, I do admire the amount of careful thought and execution that went into those games that were so restricted by the hardware and memory limitations of that age.
In reference to Ni No Kuni directly, JRPG's as a genre have relied on old school game design almost exclusively for such a long time now (most of the newer design philosophy's branched off into their own genre, the WRPG), its good to see a game that truely looks fresh and unique but at the same time familiar enough to be able to tangible to those of us who grew up with the Final Fantasies, Chrono Triggers, Earthbounds and Illusion of Gaia's of our youth. There have been slim pickings as of late for us JRPG fans as time and time again we've seen them poorly designed and ham-fistedly executed. I can't really pin point a specific reason though unfortunately, for some reason developers have lost the ability to make them good as of late (at least outside of Atlus, Monolith or Level 5).
Also I'd like to somewhat defend RE6, personally I don't think it sucks as much as everyone claims. I'm not saying it was great (it was a big disappointment sure), but it was still an enjoyable experience for me (especially in co-op, and Ada's campaign in particular was great) and is hardly a 3 or 4 score quality game, that's ridiculous. I will certainly be picking up Revelations, although I'm not sold on the price point for what is essentially an upscaled version of a handheld game to the best of my knowledge.
Also I know Brent doesn't care, but Gears: Judgement is actually a prequel to Gears 1, not the other way around haha. As someone who hasn't play Gears 1 (yep I'm in that camp) and intends on picking up Judgement, this is a nice little bonus that I shall be taking apart of.
Finally, the Dead Space 3 demo sucks, spoiler alert. Have a good day
Comment by IceSamurai Dono on January 24, 2013 at 1:30pm Thank you for the early audio update. I am truly grateful.
Comment by StarBound on January 24, 2013 at 1:46pm I love advancement in technology. I have mentioned time and again that I stick to my PC because I can upgrade to better hardware and with that have access to faster and better looking games.
The big difference is I still prefer the older style of gameplay. I don't like the cinematic experience that much. I like being in control. Hitting a jump button or action button I want to either jump or take whatever action is needed for the situation.
Going forward demands I keep an open mind. I never liked RPGs. If it wasn't for Diablo I would never have played Final Fantasy 7 and if FF7 wasn't as good as it was I would not have bothered with RPGs at all.
Comment by Amrit Randay on January 24, 2013 at 8:53pm Brent? You gave your nephew your old WiiU? After hearing that Nintendo Direct Conference, you'll want to kick yourself.
Comment by Billy as in Double Dragon on January 24, 2013 at 11:09pm Is it just me or is the mp3 file in RSS feed not working?
Comment by Alexander Arts on January 25, 2013 at 12:29am lol Brent doesn't have a Wii U, he meant to say Wii.

As I am typing this, we're deep inside the annual summer gaming drought of 2013. The last interesting current gen game I played was Bioshock Infinite. I'm now waiting patiently for The Last of Us to drop through the mail slot. In the interim, I have amused myself by going back and playing a whole bunch of the old Metroid titles. And I've had an absolute blast doing so. It's been one of the most nostalgic and satisfying gaming periods of my entire life. I replayed and finished all five of the…
After some discussion with the axeheads I asked myself what I want out of the next generation of gaming. And my answer is suprising. |It is neither better grafics or better AI. It does not even have to do with hardware.
What I want from the next generation the most is the introduction of used game sales for digital games. As soon as one of the major platforms does that I will go all digital, never looking back.
So, what would you like to see?
This bold statement was made by Nintendo and features on the Polygon site.

Step one: its EpicBattleCry! E3 2013 has played host to exciting game news, dramatic moments, and, some would claim, out-and-out homicide. From EA dropping the AT-AT foot to Jack Tretton dropping the mic, this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo will certainly go down as one of the most memorable. With DK still on full-time looking-good-in-LA duty, Brent and Tony sat down to discuss Nintendo's showing at this year's show, the fallout (good and bad) from Sony and…

The Last Of Us is a slow game, intentionally slow, because it has a story to tell and takes the time to do it. Naughty Dog knows that if you're not making an "action" game, then you need to engage…Continue
