Comment by StarBound on March 7, 2013 at 4:33pm I don't mind annual releases. It is more of the same and in most cases it is what we want. However having the pc gamer background I would much prefer an expansion. Sequels on PC generally had some form of overhaul with noticeable improvements. The downside to it was you always needed your base game.
I feel that directly following sequels should perhaps be released 2 years in a row and then brake the tension by releasing another branching franchise for 2 year to give players the time to appreciate which ever part of the franchise they enjoy the most.
Take Command & Conquer as an example. The split between the tiberium story and the red alert story was just what was needed to keep players locked in the franchise while allowing them to choose which one they would rather follow without the feeling of missing out on content.
Comment by Rudolph Solomon III on March 7, 2013 at 5:00pm DK can question Ubisoft's marketing techniques all day, but it comes down to one thing...money. Each successive AC sold better than it's predecessor, although Revelations didn't quite surpass Brotherhood as well as anticipated, which ultimately led to a new numbered title. Putting a 3 on the box garnered a lot of positive attention and sales. Previous iterations sold around 7 million while AC3 got to 8 million.
So to me it seems like Ubisoft is doubling down by having a numbered Title that also has a subtitle and will be the first AC on "next-gen" systems. We may hate the Ubisoft for cashing in on the abuse of milking a franchise but we should really hate ourselves or our gaming community for encouraging them to continue this by throwing money at them every year. I personally could care less, Bethesda takes a few years to make a game and it still comes out a buggy mess, so if Ubisoft can bring out a great game every year, please the majority and make more money than last year then more power to them.
Also to another point, Ubisoft did/are doing a side story for AC3. It's called Tyranny of King Washington.
Comment by Berserkaren on March 7, 2013 at 6:20pm EBC FTW!
Thief might be good.
Beyond two souls is really a game I want to experience. It seems cool. That part about what is on the other side is very intruiging since the dawn of man we have wondered about that and now a game that takes that in the story in a movie like cinematic experience coupled with interesting gameplay and different outcomes.
The. Witcher. 3. Wild. Hunt. .. Holy crap .. Axeheads here know that this game is like my potenital game of the decade for me. The Witcher franchise is among the best friggin series I have ever played. It is on the same level as The Longest Journey series for me. I need this game. I really want to experience the conclusion to this arc in Geralts story. I'm a huge fan of The Witcher and CDPR. I'm pretty sure that Cyberpunk 2077 is gonna be great. CDPR has not let me down so far.
I'm more interested in Assassin's Creed IV - Blackbeard.. Uh.. Black Flag. I mean it is much cooler looking. Also you get to be Ken Masters fighting in a pirate assassin costume with swords and guns. Awesome! This looks great. Give me this. As long as the story is good and the game is not buggy. Sure release it. If the game is not ready yet then take your time to make the title awesome.
I will wait a bit to play Tomb Raider on PC then. I will wait for the update and then play the game. It does seem to be very cool. indeed. I've played Tomb Raider since 1996. I really want a Tomb Raider game that changes and updates gameplay a bit in this franchise and this game is it and I want to play it.
Great stuff! Thank you! Stay Frosty!
Comment by Stephen East on March 7, 2013 at 6:31pm my battle cry goes to drm its so obvious that no matter what publishers say its there to combat piracy the irony is that often its actually punishing the people who actually buy the game.
I have lived in two places and in both my internet connection has never been that reliable so a always online is not really feasible but my biggest bug bear is the enjoyment of a game can be down to things out of my control for example EVERY time i play diablo 3 first group of enemies i come across i get terrible lag and often my character has been killed purely down to the lag.
I think in the end the more companies enforce drm the more it will encourage people to actually pirate purely just so they can play the thing
Comment by Lucius Silver on March 7, 2013 at 6:41pm I’ve been an AC fan since day one. The franchise has been my favourite this gen hands down and the keyword here is franchise. Not to pull a Kayser here, but the Assassin’s Creed series has become Ubisoft’s flag title. The fact that I own comics, t-shirts, collector’s editions and freaking encyclopaedias says a lot about its presence in the industry. I believe we reached a point in which the developer can’t afford to not have an AC title on the shelves or at least anything related to it – the upcoming movie is a fine example.
Despite being disappointed with the third instalment to the point of not finishing it, I think Black Flag will turn out OK for two reasons:
1) they’re taking the most awesome feature AC 3 has, i.e. the naval gameplay, and giving it the spotlight;
and 2) the setting is still fresh in everyone’s mind.
The main problem people had with the latest instalment relate to setting and character. Sure, AC 2 had Ezio, but they never departed from Altair, as he is mentioned and features in Brotherhood and Revelations. The same goes for setting. Italy and the Holy Land were a part of Assassin’s Creed all through four games and a sudden detachment left players with that bad taste in their mouths.
Having said all this, I did expected Ubisoft to put the franchise on ice, giving relevance to titles like Splinter Cell or Watch Dogs, but such is business. It’s all about the green...
Comment by MixMasterMike on March 7, 2013 at 7:12pm Sadly no Battlecry for the extremely successful recently started Kickstarter for Planescape Torment's successor :(
Assassin's Creed is not a story driven game, Torment is really what could be called that.
Comment by MixMasterMike on March 7, 2013 at 7:23pm Also, regarding Tomb Raider of Duty: you EBC guys seem to be passionate Nvidia users and I, as a passionate AMD Radeon user since a long time, am somehow feeling some sweet irony regarding those performance issue problems.
Nvidia was foul playing with its "TWIMTBP" program for years and AMD cards always performed shitty on release, now things seem to have changed for once with AMD's "Gaming Evolved" program.
But still, all of this sucks for the PC platform and for gamers in general. Thing is that it has always worked so well for Nvidia to do all kinds of dirty things like rebranding graphics cards and people who are usually pretty dumb were still buying them in droves, since no one reads PC tech magazines anymore. Maybe Geforce owners deserved this kind of experience.
Comment by MixMasterMike on March 7, 2013 at 7:31pm I am sorry, I do not know how to edit my postings here.

Hey all. As I said in this week's episode of The Axe Factor, we won't be able to record EpicBattleCry this week. With DK still out of town and a last minute snag in Tony's schedule, we just weren't able to carve out the time to get together.
In light of today's news vis-a-vis Microsoft, that might not be such a terrible thing since we normally record on Tuesday and we would have completely missed out on discussing this dramatic reversal. In any case, we should be…
Grab the scissors and run, its The Axe Factor! This week, we investigate the news that Microsoft decieved the world by running their E3 demos on high-end Nvidia gaming rigs and why the company suddenly finds itself in such troubled waters. Plus, we examine Tom Clancy's The Division, go hands-on with Remember Me, The Last of Us, and more!

As I am typing this, we're deep inside the annual summer gaming drought of 2013. The last interesting current gen game I played was Bioshock Infinite. I'm now waiting patiently for The Last of Us to drop through the mail slot. In the interim, I have amused myself by going back and playing a whole bunch of the old Metroid titles. And I've had an absolute blast doing so. It's been one of the most nostalgic and satisfying gaming periods of my entire life. I replayed and finished all five of the…
After some discussion with the axeheads I asked myself what I want out of the next generation of gaming. And my answer is suprising. |It is neither better grafics or better AI. It does not even have to do with hardware.
What I want from the next generation the most is the introduction of used game sales for digital games. As soon as one of the major platforms does that I will go all digital, never looking back.
So, what would you like to see?
This bold statement was made by Nintendo and features on the Polygon site.

Personly i do, considering that most of the games made today and which are gonna be made for the Next-Generation of konsoles will be like before.

The Last Of Us is a slow game, intentionally slow, because it has a story to tell and takes the time to do it. Naughty Dog knows that if you're not making an "action" game, then you need to engage…Continue
