The thing with CoD is that it cannot change for fear of alienating its gamers. No or little change is actually what sells it. I believe that the future for CoD should be MP only, with season statistic resets, new maps and gun rotation. That is what you are getting anyways. CoD has perfected its formula for gameplay and there really is no reason for it to change it. Other games might steal players though and I think that BF4 and in the future Titanfall and Destiny will attract some CoD gamers who want something different, but for the gamer who only has a console for playing yearly editions of CoD nothing will sway him (or her) from that fix.

Looking back at the last console generation and hearing what many people who have said positive thing about the PS4, it seems to me that the eventual success of a of any game format be it PC hand held or console  is one simple and subtle aspect: Whatever the device is suppose to do, does it work smoothly. The kinect 2 would be wildly anticipated if what it offered was not perceived as being buggy. I feel that consoles are in a spot where they are being faced with PC gaming that has become increasingly more user friendly and offering a more console like experience. The console market has been trying to prove their distinctiveness by offering experiences like motion controls and I believe that that is a miss direction. The PS4’s has been praised so far on it’s easy of use and enhanced performance and a lot of seemingly small improvements that come together to make a big difference in how people are using a console not a wild paradigm shift that I feel other console manufacture are pushing and betting on.

I cringed every time DK said Final Fantasy "EX". It's a Roman numeral DK! It's Final Fantasy "TEN"!! No hard feelings though DK, that's just a HUGE pet-peeve of mine and I had to get that out lol.

The PS4 launch was great even if I am only getting the system on 13 December in my country. Sony PR did a great job of getting everyone hyped over the coarse of the year and Microsoft kinda helped by conveying their console they way they did.

The takeaway though is concerning and I'm not talking about the low failure rate but rather the incomplete hardware features out of the box. If its missing just patch it in later. The world is becoming more connected but it should not be the excuse for not having the base features (talking about the media functionality).

That said the system is a games console and if nothing else atleast it can still play a game out of the box.

:52.......hilarious!!  I bet it was DK.  Show  was awesome as usual.  Anyway Im down for some Killzone or BF4 Saturday if anyone wants to play.

So I was checking out some settings on the PS4 and ran into this option.  Control with Voice.

The Wii U is next-gen and I am continually annoyed at the assumption it isn't. "Next-generation" is merely a name for the next console cycle and isn't dependent on visual fidelity or expanded functionality. In any case, the Wii U brings both those things in some ways and not in others. Taking just the Wii as an example, which arguably had the best 3D platformer (Super Mario Galaxy) and RPG (Xenoblade: Chronicles), the technical limitations didn't stop great games being released. Sure both the titles mentioned could have benefited greatly from being in HD and a game like Skyward Sword would have been much better if the Wii had the ability to render larger areas. But that's not really the point, the games were great and there were plenty of them.

The Wii U is the only next (now current) generation console that is backwards compatible. It also has a free online network, the second-screen experience straight out of the box and is currently the only new console with a decent library. With Super Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3, Lego City Undercover, The Wonderful 101 and a good selection of big multi-platform titles. Nintendo have also been thoughtful with DRM and DLC, with the former limited to region coding and the latter thoughtfully implemented and adding rather than taking value. Nintendo isn't doing a lot right but they are still doing a few things better than both Sony and Microsoft.

I'm happy I've bought the Wii U and I can confidently state that short of a sudden increase in my cash-flow, it will remain the only new console I buy until 2015, or until something special convinces me to settle on the Xbox One or PS4.

As for the great titles this year on the 360 and PS3, well that is to be expected. 2005 saw the release of Resident Evil 4 which felt like a next-generation title to me at the time. I think the releases this year of Tomb Raider, The Last of Us, Metro: Last Light etc. are more previews of what's to come as they pushed those consoles to their limits. Resident Evil 4 was better than anything the 360 had and thinking about this years Tomb Raider and Gears of War: Judgement, it is clear that it had a lasting influence. Many of the titles we are seeing this year are both swan songs and previews of what is to come. Hell, the Witcher 2 on PC was just such a title and it was released two years ago! I think Titanfall and the Witcher 3 are the two titles to watch for now. The former just may be the next big thing in multiplayer and the Witcher 3 may do what Mass Effect did for the RPG last-gen.

Wow, getting picked for the member battle cry sure is an ego boost, but hearing it spoken out aloud made me very self-conscious of how poor I am at expressing myself in writing.

I hated the VGA's last year for it's poor presentation and poor chosen winners. I can't remember how many prices there were last year but it was like this:

"And the winner for best shooter goes to: Call of Duty!" Oh and here in the invisible bottom of your screen we give away 10 other prices which you will probably miss because this show isn't about giving awards.

Is that why they don't call it the VG"A"s anymore? They just stop giving away awards and sell advertisement spice that nobody cares about?

@Averagus: Well written. I own a Gamecube and had tremendous fun with the exclusives. Unfortunately due to the technical limitations of the Wii in comparison to the Xbox360/PS3 killed the multiplat support and thus I never really considered to buy one after the initial hype. Even though I missed on such great games as Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (the original Metroid Prime belongs to my all-time favorites), Zelda Skyward Sword (the only Zelda game next to Majora's Mask I ever missed), The Last Story and the aforementioned Xenoblade Chronicles. Thankfully the WiiU is backward compatible, so if I am going to buy one, I can enjoy all these great titles from the fading generation plus the new big N titles. Heck it might very well be the first next generation console I am going to buy (followed by the PS4, after the first re-design).
