Completely agree with Tony about Dragon's Crown on the Vita, as a huge beat 'em up fan, especially the old school variety (not to say there haven't been ones lately of course even Charlie Murder from this year was a pretty good effort), and its honestly one of the best I've played. I also played the mystara hd remake this year and in my opinion Dragon's Crown bests it. Its right up there with Guardian Heroes (my usual go to favourite beat 'em up) and among the best in the genre that I've played.

Now that I have my shiny (and overly upgraded with a ssd) PS4 I find myself looking at the current line up for this year and scratching my head. What do I want this year? What games will be the must own day 1 purchases? Should I pick a game for PS4 over PC because of possible stability and/or restriction issues? Should I just go all PC and max everything out beyond obscurity? Or should I just pick up more 3DS and Wii U games because of the stellar Zelda Link between worlds and Super Mario 3D World?

Maybe the best thing to do this year is not to get too excited and wait for games to hit the shelf. After all if you don't have high expectations you might find something to be more enjoyable and surprising. My next gen consoles are already lined up but for those that haven't decided yet, there is "One 4 U".

That's amazing. I've got the same combination on my luggage

This is just a PSA to consider in the coming week(s), and directed at no one in particular I might add, but it is widely considered an unacceptable medical practice to cut umbilical cords using a battle axe. That is all.

I found a couple interesting things about PS Now. Due to its nature, it will inforce DRM and broad digital distribution, the two biggest pet peeves of our generation, but nobody seems to be concern about it right now.

You guys should just make a band and get it over with already, call it "A great name for a band!" xD or if your not that good, people can introduce you like "A so-so name for a band."

Tony AND Brent both making puns in recent eps?!?  I guess the cold weather stopped by Hell after breezing by Niagara.

Aw, such kind words :) (also sorry you had to pick my battlecry cause no one else commented lol, I think a lot of us were pretty busy over new years)

I feel a little bit strange commenting a sport video game franchise because I have slightly less interest in sports video games than Brent does. That isn't to say I don't like them, I just favour arcade style over simulation and couldn't care less about how accurate the rosters are.

With that in mind, there is probably no better time for publishers to start doing what I and many have been thinking they should do for years. Subscriptions! Yearly sports titles are often dismissed as roster updates so why not make that more or less the truth? Let people buy Madden/MLB 2015 but then let them upgrade their game digitally the following year. Allow a yearly subscription that offers a bit more with updates throughout the year that keep the biggest fans engaged. Details? That isn't my problem but it is clear that this would be the best way to maintain some franchises by rewarding their most loyal fans and putting out a yearly retail copy that will get new players in the door.

I wrote about my most anticipated game last week and it is surprisingly still the Witcher 3! But Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze must once again be pimped. It is barely a month away and I am betting it will be the best game this year for at least a month.

Great show, as always, Axe Lords!

I wanted to chime in on Playstation Now and how this is an opportunity for Sony to pave the way in old game streaming.  The idea of having PaRappa, Spyro, and Crash alongside Ezio, Nathan Drake and Solid Snake in one location is quite enticing.  BUT the success, or failure, of this service relies on Sony's ability to create a seamless interface that invites players to participate in the nostalgia.  Something like the NESremix (but better), that builds a game library into a challenge arena of old school games would definitely win me over!  If Sony neglects the user's experience while working with this service, and just builds a library, it will be no different than the Wiishop.  They can set the bar higher than before with careful planning and rewarding implementation.

I enjoyed hearing all of your picks for this year. Can't wait for Second Son and I really hope The Division happens this year.  Stay sharp!

Do YOU think console makers should keep it simple?
Yes, I need a controller, graphic horsepower, and an 'on' button...that's it 0%
Its not realistic to think mainstream consumers will buy a device that only does one thing0%
I actually like all the entertainment options and hope they can be balanced with gaming0%
Keeping it simple is fine, but if everyone does that then no one stands out; console makers half to also stand apart0%

So let me get this straight.. (Last of Us Remastered Rant)

A game comes out with a game of the year edition (same base game, all dlc) for $60 a year later, everyone eats it up. Last of Us Remastered comes out on a DIFFERENT console, better graphics, extra features and all the DLC for cheaper than the original base game was and every one calls bull$hit and practically wants it for free? GOTY editions require almost no additional development. Just put all of the existing content in to one package and that's it. Last of Us:Remastered was actually…

Living with Tinnitus, the (not so) silent killer

This is a hard article to write. Not necessarily to express what I want to say, but because no matter how one writes an article of this nature it's nigh-on impossible to avoid sounding like a crusade, or a victim-piece or some form of self-indulgence. I can only implore you to read on in trust that I'm writing this article with no other intent than to help ensure that you never develop this condition. It has the power to terrify and debilitate you and it may be more likely to occur than you…

PSN Plus Instant Game Collection (May to July 2014)

Back again to give my impressions of games that I have played (and many I failed to complete) thanks to the PSN plus instant library.

Stealth Inc.: A Clone in The Dark

The first on a long list of games that I failed to complete. I enjoyed the puzzles, it was well polished for an indie title and it is a perfect fit for mobile gaming. I played it in bite size amounts and ended up logging three or four hours into it. If I had more of an opportunity to…

So what do you think about Playstation Now?

What I don't get is the pricing structure. 3 dollars for 4 hours of game is absurd. 15 dollars for 90 days of one old game, that you can pretty much buy at that price is also nonsense. How can Sony…Continue
