In regards to the frustration brought on by install time, updates, etc. I could not agree more. Unfortunately, I am old enough to remember the same uproar that was caused by loading times. When the PS1 came out, many people (myself included) held off on buying a Playstation because the idea that I had to wait 10 to 30 seconds when venturing between areas was ludicrous.

But here we are today and nobody even talks about load times, we have just accepted it. Unfortunately, all the bad habits of modern gaming (lengthy install times, updates, patches, etc.) are going to go the same way. As I have gotten older I have come to realize one undeniable truth (this especially goes for males): we will go through hell and back just for a good experience.

Amidst all the media attention being poured upon the new generation of consoles I would like to send a battle cry back towards the aging Playstation 3. There has never been a better time to own a PS3, thanks in large part to the excellent service that is Playstation Plus.

I finally bit the bullet and purchased a PS+ membership as a Christmas gift to myself. It is a gift that has paid off in spades! Since January I have gotten Borderlands 2, Bioshock Infinite, Brothers: A tale of Two Sons, XCOM Enemy Unknown, Payday 2, Metro: Last Light, a slew of smaller titles, and now Tomb Raider has been announced for March, all at no additional cost to the price of membership! “Instant Game Collection” is no exaggeration. PS+ paid for itself instantly.

I believe this is a conscious effort on Sony’s part to keep their fan base happy given the content drought associated with the launch of a new console. It’s working. I have more than enough games to keep me busy on my trusty old Playstation 3, until such time as that first ‘must have’ game comes out for PS4.

So, here’s to many, MANY more hours of gaming on the Last Gen PS3!

What's the point of being able to play a portion of a game while it's still downloading when a majority of the patches or updates that actually make most games playable don't install until after you have the full game downloaded? Patches are always the last thing and with the trend of semi finished products being sold that need day one updates to work as intended, I don't see the appeal of playing the buggy version first.

Hey Brent, you mentioned that you like the idea of detective games like LA Noir, etc. I like them too and I'm thinking about purchasing the Sherlock Homes for my PS3, but I would like to hear from people who played this game. Any word, analyzis on this game specificaly?

I just watched this episode again and I totally missed that Brent got my lame joke. Also, good on you sir, for your reply (my wife would certainly agree). Anyways, great episode and thanks for the battle cry!

@ MuttonChops:

I too recently signed up for PS+ as well and highly recommend it to anyone who owns a PS3. Having two small children and my wife being a stay-at-home mom, money is tight and I’ve had to really be selective about what I'm willing to spend $60 on. The instant game collection has allowed me to play games that I wanted to play but just didn’t have the money for or enough interest to spend $20, $30, $40, etc, on.

Money is a superpower.

That's all I got this week.

Great show guys.

Referring to Frank Tenpenny's battlecry: it is true that we may not be able to pull out our Xbox Ones and play them in ten or twenty years, and that's pretty sad. True, we have advantages to these modern consoles, but we should not resign ourselves to this fate. Things are certainly not as good as they could be, and we should demand that they be better.

There is also a (high) possibility that these issues are temporary. Maybe technology will advance to such an extent that we will never have to wait even a second to start playing, that these current required updates are totally seamless with the experience, even if that won't happen in the foreseeable future.

Although overall I think Sony and Microsoft's policies don't diverge from one another too much this generation, it's thanks in large part to Sony's initial decisions with the PS4, which forced Microsoft to follow suit. Sony gave more respect to gamers and their rights by stating that yes, we will have physical media on our new console, and no, there won't be DRM or always online requirements. I have a feeling that it will be easier to play Knack on PS4 in twenty years than it will be to play any Xbox One game, because of Sony's attitude with their message and approach.

In general, I'm very suspicious of digital media, because it fundamentally deprives gamers of their rights as consumers and collectors. I know this won't happen anytime soon, but if Sony one day decides to only concentrate on its insurance business in Japan, and drops all its other involvements, my PS Plus library would probably disappear immediately (I know, I don't own those games, it's a rental service). But in that worst case scenario, all the digital games I own, which I have paid full price for and which aren't downloaded on my PS3/4 will be lost as well. At least if Sony did go bankrupt or some other terrible scenario (again, unlikely hypothetical situation to make a point), I could play my physical copy of Puppeteer with no problems.

Dishonored 2! Yes! That, The Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 are the games that are going to make me buy a PS4!

Axefactor 180. We Get What We Deserve

I would love to change my username to DaySixEdition games.

Greetings fellow Axeheads.  I am once again compelled to write my thoughts in the same theme I wrote every other time in relation to the AxeFactor #180.  Our glorious Axelords Brent and Lorin again ponder as to why it is that our industry treats us like crap.  There is even a pole again for us to express what we feel about the situation.

The pole is missing the ''The industry treats us as we deserve.''   Which is what…

AC: Unity - The good, the bad and the ugly

The good:

- Graphics. It looks stunning and the amount of NPC's roaming through the city give the game a nice ambiance and make the city come to life like no other game has ever done before.

- Interiors. Much more inside buildings now. Fast short cuts through a house or complete missions taking place in a palace. Not every house is accessible but there is plenty of them to make it divers.

- Riddles. Less hand holding this game. Riddles and murder cases to tease the…

Hatred is not about violence & here's why

PSA: Nothing I am saying is meant to be inflammatory or antagonizing. I am simply informing you the reader on my personal take of the Hatred controversy now that it has been several weeks and we can really take a step back to examine what the issue is.

The Hatred controversy is not about Violence in video games... Hatred is not about Grand Theft Auto, Hatred is not about Halo, heck Hatred is not about Boondock Saints or even Sons of Anarchy. Hatred is about Columbine, there I…
