TOPIC: THE NAME GAME: After the recent closure of Irrational Studios and layoffs at Sony Santa Monica, some industry analysts are suggesting that the gaming industry is better off when developers don’t get the recognition they deserve. With that in mind, team EBC evaluates how and why the gaming industry prefers its professionals to maintain a low profile as to not damage a particular brand while discussing the pros and cons of doing so.

Amidst all the media attention being poured upon the new generation of consoles I would like to send a battle cry back towards the aging Playstation 3. There has never been a better time to own a PS3, thanks in large part to the excellent service that is Playstation Plus.

I finally bit the bullet and purchased a PS+ membership as a Christmas gift to myself. It is a gift that has paid off in spades! Since January I have gotten Borderlands 2, Bioshock Infinite, Brothers: A tale of Two Sons, XCOM Enemy Unknown, Payday 2, Metro: Last Light, a slew of smaller titles, and now Tomb Raider has been announced for March, all at no additional cost to the price of membership! “Instant Game Collection” is no exaggeration. PS+ paid for itself instantly.

I believe this is a conscious effort on Sony’s part to keep their fan base happy given the content drought associated with the launch of a new console. It’s working. I have more than enough games to keep me busy on my trusty old Playstation 3, until such time as that first ‘must have’ game comes out for PS4.

So, here’s to many, MANY more hours of gaming on the Last Gen PS3!

Is it time for the Battlecry already? Nice

As a WiiU owner I'm still very hopeful for Watch_Dogs on the system. If the Ubisoft team in Bucharest can utilize the gamepad to its fullest potential then I'm okay with it being delayed for the system. I don't intend on getting an XboxOne or PS4 any time soon so all I can do is wait some more; It better not be cancelled though!

As for all of the delays in general I agree that the industry should get people excited about their game in every which way other than talking about a release date until they are certain its coming out. Obviously you can give the fans a time frame like which quarter it might potentially release in but more than that is just asking for trouble.

Good EBC! As always.

Watch dogs? Meh, not a fan of dogs in general so.

The Witcher 3 being delayed killed me. My most wanted game this year. But, I suppose the extra months will ensure great stabillity and polish polish. Still now there is higher pressure on CDPR, since if the game comes out and there are bugs in it, internet will get nuts. Then one might wonder how buggy would it have been if released in 2014? So there are many things to consider.

Trailers in general show too much footage nowadays, I remember where you had 30sec-1 minute trailers and that was it. Now in both movies and trailers you can even see the plot twist in there.. Really? What is the point to see the movie or play the game? I don't get it.. I mostly see the teaser, debut trailer and a gameplay trailer and then I go media black, as much as possible anyway.

I hope in the future trailers/game footage gets less plot revealing.. In this case "Less is More" is the key to success.

Amy Henning leaving Naughty Dog may or may not be a good thing, however if the Uncharted series needed a fresh up it can be either good or a bad thing. As for Amy Henning I hope she finds another studio fast to work on stories since she is doing a good job and I would like to thank her for her contribution for making the Uncharted series as good as it has become.

Stay Sharp and keep cleaving that gamefat from the gaming industry so we can have the good juicy parts! :)

If anything in Uncharted needs an overhaul it isn't so much the story as it is the gameplay; like Assassins Creed I fear it might get old fast.

I'm not saying it's a common thing in games, but there are instances where, like film, games have one persons name attached to them to help sell them, whether or not they were actually involved in the development at all is another story.

American McGee's Alice

Sid Meier's Civilisation / Pirates

A Tim Schafer Game: Brutal Legend

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six / Ghost Recon / Splinter Cell / everything else

Colin McCrae Rally

Tony Hawks Skateboarding

Those are just a couple examples, but you get my point, it's not common but it does happen sometimes.

I am glad you are hyped for Watchdogs Brent. Unfortunately that story trailer has turned me off completely. The over the top executions and uninteresting main character has me putting this game on a rent first no matter what. Very sad about Witcher 3 getting delayed but with Dark Souls 2 coming to PC at the end of April and Dragon Age 3 in the fall(still on the fence as I do not want to use Origin)plus many older CRPGs I need to play it was for the best.

@Brandon Mack I feel the same way you do about all you said, although, Origin has become a LOT better compared to 6 months ago.. Far more stable, also their support is fast and friendly.

@Berserkaren I have been hearing this alot lately. I guess I would really just like a DRM-free version. (GOG.com is spoiling me) I will need to update my computer before even thinking of buying DA3. So I have time to make up my mind.

I honestly believe Microsoft and Sony both stretch the truth a little (or a lot) in regards to the games that will be available at the launch or around the launch time of their new console in order to boost pre-order sales. At the very least for Drive Club I think between Forza 5, the strong presence of the current Need For Speed series and even Sony's own Grand Turismo 6...Well Evolution Studios definitely had to step up their game. As for Watch Dogs well I think that game was way more an adventurous project that would have made it for a polished release around the PS4 launch.

As for PS+ I couldn't agree more about the awesome value of the service. Not just amazing free titles but great discounts as well. It's become like my second Steam account. I wish I installed a bigger HD into my PS3.

That Driveclub story is a load of bollocks btw, I have no idea how gameinformer ran that crap.

Axefactor 180. We Get What We Deserve

I would love to change my username to DaySixEdition games.

Greetings fellow Axeheads.  I am once again compelled to write my thoughts in the same theme I wrote every other time in relation to the AxeFactor #180.  Our glorious Axelords Brent and Lorin again ponder as to why it is that our industry treats us like crap.  There is even a pole again for us to express what we feel about the situation.

The pole is missing the ''The industry treats us as we deserve.''   Which is what…

AC: Unity - The good, the bad and the ugly

The good:

- Graphics. It looks stunning and the amount of NPC's roaming through the city give the game a nice ambiance and make the city come to life like no other game has ever done before.

- Interiors. Much more inside buildings now. Fast short cuts through a house or complete missions taking place in a palace. Not every house is accessible but there is plenty of them to make it divers.

- Riddles. Less hand holding this game. Riddles and murder cases to tease the…

Hatred is not about violence & here's why

PSA: Nothing I am saying is meant to be inflammatory or antagonizing. I am simply informing you the reader on my personal take of the Hatred controversy now that it has been several weeks and we can really take a step back to examine what the issue is.

The Hatred controversy is not about Violence in video games... Hatred is not about Grand Theft Auto, Hatred is not about Halo, heck Hatred is not about Boondock Saints or even Sons of Anarchy. Hatred is about Columbine, there I…
