TOPIC: THE NAME GAME: After the recent closure of Irrational Studios and layoffs at Sony Santa Monica, some industry analysts are suggesting that the gaming industry is better off when developers don’t get the recognition they deserve. Amidst all the media attention being poured upon the new generation of consoles I would like to send a battle cry back towards the aging Playstation 3. There has never been a better time to own a PS3, thanks in large part to the excellent service that is Playstation Plus.
I finally bit the bullet and purchased a PS+ membership as a Christmas gift to myself. It is a gift that has paid off in spades! Since January I have gotten Borderlands 2, Bioshock Infinite, Brothers: A tale of Two Sons, XCOM Enemy Unknown, Payday 2, Metro: Last Light, a slew of smaller titles, and now Tomb Raider has been announced for March, all at no additional cost to the price of membership! “Instant Game Collection” is no exaggeration. PS+ paid for itself instantly.
I believe this is a conscious effort on Sony’s part to keep their fan base happy given the content drought associated with the launch of a new console. It’s working. I have more than enough games to keep me busy on my trusty old Playstation 3, until such time as that first ‘must have’ game comes out for PS4.
So, here’s to many, MANY more hours of gaming on the Last Gen PS3!
