Glad to hear that there was actually a Discussion happening, as opposed to three people flat out saying Nintendo is F**ck** and needs to release games on other platforms. Really appreciate hearing multiple opinions, despite my refusal of the whole idea.

I wonder about the future of video games...while each past generation was marked by graphical leaps.  We can all remember walking passed an EB Games (Gamestop) or Best Buy and seeing a PS1, Dreamcast, or 360 and staring in awe.  The PS4and XBOX1 have not had a great graphical leap as compared to the past generations; worse yet, the marketplace and market buzz stir around games currently available on last gen systems, are remakes/re-enhancements games available on last gen systems, or are prequels or arguably derivative of other game experiences.  And, sadly, poor AI, awkward game mechanics, and mediocre games still abound.  Perhaps my expectations are too high or the new console incubation period of creativity will last a lot longer than usual.  But I ask the question....what if it never gets better than this my brothers?... I am hopeful a hero will emerge to inspire us all beneath these wretched stars.

I am shocked Brent hasn't played Civilization before (or at least that is the way I am inferring from his comments here and from what I know he's said in the past), it seems absolutely right up his alley considering his affinity for history and emergent narrative. Also Firaxis has plenty of teams so I'm sure a new XCOM is also in the works, Jake Solomon who is the lead on XCOM is not working on this project the guys behind the last two Civ expansions are behind it (one of which was just okay and one which was fantastic and you should never play the vanilla game ever again without it). So yeah, I wouldn't worry about Beyond Earth eating up a potential next gen XCOM sequel just yet.

Also I am totally behind Tony on the Super Mario Sunshine train of thought, it would seriously go a long way to me picking up a WiiU or at least considering one (something which I'm not considering currently)

Tony, they /did/ remake Mario 64, on the DS. Graphics were actually smoothed out a lot and besides other additions they also had a bunch of new minigames and let you play as 4 characters.

To me the PS4 version of The Last Of Us is simply the best possible way of releasing the GOTY-edition I've been waiting for.

Might get an upgrade rather than buy the whole game again. I'd appreciate that.

I think Star Citizen is setting the bar for this generation. If there was one thing last gen was missing it was space-sims. The technology is really there now to deliver a hell of a deep experience and these are the sort of titles I will be keeping my eye on. Not just space sims mind you but shooters as well. Where were the space/flight shooters last generation? The tech is so there for new Rogue Squadron, X-wing, Panzer Dragoon, Starfox and Crimson Skies titles.

Also Dinosaurs. I heard they were coming back. In game form.

And I second with Tony and AL for a Super Mario Sunshine HD. It was a great game but it didn't have the polish it should have. An enhanced upgrade/remake could be a wonderful game in its own right.

I am one of those that did not play The Last of Us because I had already sold my PS3. So maybe I will check it out now on PS4.

Regarding remakes I would like to see Commander Keen again. An a 2D sidescrolling shoter thing where I don't know the name anymore :( It was on the C64. You were a soldier and walked from left to right (and back?) and there was a automatic shots powerup das was a big "A" and a damage powerup that was a big "P". I also would like to see some Turrican.

I love the Battlecry of Brent. I am a backer of Star Citizen, too. Brent, I hope we will fly together in my bigger multi crew ships.

Do YOU think console makers should keep it simple?
Yes, I need a controller, graphic horsepower, and an 'on' button...that's it 0%
Its not realistic to think mainstream consumers will buy a device that only does one thing0%
I actually like all the entertainment options and hope they can be balanced with gaming0%
Keeping it simple is fine, but if everyone does that then no one stands out; console makers half to also stand apart0%

So let me get this straight.. (Last of Us Remastered Rant)

A game comes out with a game of the year edition (same base game, all dlc) for $60 a year later, everyone eats it up. Last of Us Remastered comes out on a DIFFERENT console, better graphics, extra features and all the DLC for cheaper than the original base game was and every one calls bull$hit and practically wants it for free? GOTY editions require almost no additional development. Just put all of the existing content in to one package and that's it. Last of Us:Remastered was actually…

Living with Tinnitus, the (not so) silent killer

This is a hard article to write. Not necessarily to express what I want to say, but because no matter how one writes an article of this nature it's nigh-on impossible to avoid sounding like a crusade, or a victim-piece or some form of self-indulgence. I can only implore you to read on in trust that I'm writing this article with no other intent than to help ensure that you never develop this condition. PSN Plus Instant Game Collection (May to July 2014)

Back again to give my impressions of games that I have played (and many I failed to complete) thanks to the PSN plus instant library.

Stealth Inc.: A Clone in The Dark

The first on a long list of games that I failed to complete. I enjoyed the puzzles, it was well polished for an indie title and it is a perfect fit for mobile gaming. I played it in bite size amounts and ended up logging three or four hours into it. If I had more of an opportunity to…
