EpicBattleCry Skirmish 245 - Week of August 18 2014

Hey all, as some of you may already know I was in the hospital over the weekend with salmonella poisoning. Its taken me a few days to get back in the swing of things so I thought we'd do things a bit differently this week for EpicBattleCry. I'm posting a playlist with all five of this week's video episodes in addition to the weekly audio skirmish.

This week, we tackled the XB1-exclusive news surrounding Rise of the Tomb Raider, the return of Sierra Games and King's Quest, and the departure of Casey Hudson from BioWare. We'll be back to the normal routine next time around. Thanks for understanding!

Crystal Dynamics basically pulled a Don Mattrick with that Temple of Osiris comment. We know now that the Rise of the Tomb Raider Exclusivity has a duration, it's just a timed Exclusive, but that comment was truly moronic.

In the words of The Miz... AWESOOOOOME! Salmonella Poisoning? You gotta stop eating live baby chickens, Brent. Glad you're feeling better.

As businesses, MS and Square Enix have every right to do exclusivity deals if they choose to do so *mumbles* doesn't make any less of a dick move. However, as consumers we have every right to not do business with those companies for behavior that unfair to us.  If you feel the RotTR exclusivity deal is unfair but still want the game, then I would suggest renting or buying it used. As for PC users, buy a grey market Steam key. Both methods would result in SE losing direct sales and that would send a strong message 3rd party publishers considering similar deals.

Wow, sorry to hear you got salmonella poisoning, Brent. Maybe you can sue someone, lol? Do people still get rich doing that? Glad you're better, man.

Thank you for taking my question! DK pretty much nailed my thought process when I posed the question... Just with the over-commercialization of EA, trying to shoehorn relevancy into games with stupid marketing gimmicks.  Clearly the multiplayer for ME3 was tacked on, what other compromises will the development of ME4 face as a result of corporate policies?  And they're already well into the development of ME4, so it's shocking that Hudson wouldn't stick around at least until that game was released.  What memo did he get on his desk where he just said "Fuck this, I'm leaving."?  I correlated it with EA Access, because we still don't know the full extent at which they're going to push that agenda, and how it relates to Origin and your EA account, or what you have access to when you purchase a game.  Day-One DLC?  I'm pretty sure EA invented that.

Good show, as always. Interesting debate on Microsoft making deals, back-ally-deal? Nah, dick move? Maybe.
