This is one of the most overlooked game of 2012. Mostly because its an indie game with no AAA marketing campaign. For me personally it was one of the most enjoyable game experiences of 2012. So let me tell you now four reasons why you should give it a try too. This could be one fun drug trip you could miss, no side effects included.
First Reason: Pixel Art!
In his own rights this is really good looking game. The use of color and light is fitting so perfectly and sets you up for the ultimate adrenaline rush. Colors are shrill to give you the perfect vibe of the 80s and the lights are flashing to reflect the fast gameplay.
Second Reason: Gameplay!
The goal in this game is to clear rooms, to do that you have to do it in a very violent way. The best comparison is the elevator scene from the movie Drive. So you drive from place to place, getting calls to do certain stuff and end up killing a lot of dudes. You start unarmed and fight your way floor to floor. The weapons range from pipes over knifes to shotguns. Enemies react very quickly and with one hit you are done. This games challenges you, yet its rewards you for success. Your reflexes must be fast and your concentration is required all the time.
Third Reason: Music!
One of the best and best fitting soundtracks in a videogame i have heard so far. Its fast electronic music that sucks you into this game. It reflects the 80s miami mood perfectly and mixes this with the violence that it is surrounding. Even if you don't play the game, you could give it a listen.
Fourth Reason: Price!
This is an indie game which will entertain you at least five hours if you complete it. Although you can easily squeeze 10 hours out of it. You wont pay more for it than going to the movies, or you pay half if you wait for a steamsale.
In conclusion it's an exquisite piece of media, combining visuals and music so well. So if you like to have a fast flashing violent trip to miami in the 80s: Just go for it! You'll like it and it might surprise you!
