Okay, after listening to the recent podcast and doing some extra research, I must say that I am uber excited for the possibility of the movie based on one of the most (if not the best) creative game ever made, Half Life.
This discussion is bound to happen, I thought we might have our own and have fun on the Battle Axe :)
Now, that being said, every movie that was based on video games sucked, sucked bad. I cannot think of any feature that impressed me as much as the game, with its storytelling, characters, environment, and the Mood of the game. I am thankful to God neither Lucas or Spielberg jumped on this boat :)
I think the shiniest from all the turd, for me personally, was probably the first Silent Hill movie. I had a good connection to it and felt like it was pretty close to the game, too.
I want to touch really briefly what makes Half Life not only an amazing game, but an amazing experience while you are playing as a main character, being so different from other titles.
The fact that Half Life is more of the feeling that you are participating in something bigger than yourself or the game: the story, dialogs, consequences, the tension and excitement, the feeling of the constant danger. Even though it's an FPS, the acquaintance with other characters, the feeling of struggle to fix the World and involvement in it's fortune are the definitions of Half Life.
I never thought of HL as an action game, weird, I know. I think it's the magic of it, it never was meant to be, even with shooting guns and killing creatures from another world. My question is: is it possible to deliver that in a movie?... We'll see :)
Overall, I love watching movies with my wife and kids, on weekends. It is a family event and I enjoy my time either way. I love talking about movies and sharing my experiences and hopes for titles I am excited about (even if they end up sucking ass). So, let's just have some fun and tell what actors that you know of, from movies and TV shows, that would be a perfect fit for the main two characters of the Half Life and Half Life 2: Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance.
There are no rules, I will include two images of both characters, you can download it to your computer and include in your post with the picture of an actor next to it explaining your choice. Some thoughts: I think we need to see beyond the beard and glasses though. Everyone will got the the guy from Breaking Bad or House, just because they already have beards and it is easy to visualize the character. But, if you look at Gordon's face, it's slim and a little long, he looks in his mid-40s, he has features of a handsome man and we need to find out who might do a good job of delivering that character .
Lets begin! :)

Comment by Tokyochuchu on February 15, 2013 at 9:23pm I got this one IN THE BAG!
I vote Mark Wahlberg because he is such a consistently great actor and is underexposed when it comes to video game related movies. He has just never put a celluloid foot wrong!
I am, of course, kidding. He would be shit... Unless there was a scene where he was masturbating into a dirty gym sock and sniffing girls underwear. He would nail that one!
sadly, I feel he's the number one choice for most B-movie pap these days. Fuck off, Marky Mark!!

This week, we investigate the news that Microsoft decieved the world by running their E3 demos on high-end Nvidia gaming rigs and why the company suddenly finds itself in such troubled waters. As I am typing this, we're deep inside the annual summer gaming drought of 2013. The last interesting current gen game I played was Bioshock Infinite. I'm now waiting patiently for The Last of Us to drop through the mail slot. In the interim, I have amused myself by going back and playing a whole bunch of the old Metroid titles. And I've had an absolute blast doing so. It's been one of the most nostalgic and satisfying gaming periods of my entire life. I replayed and finished all five of the…
After some discussion with the axeheads I asked myself what I want out of the next generation of gaming. And my answer is suprising. |It is neither better grafics or better AI. It does not even have to do with hardware.
What I want from the next generation the most is the introduction of used game sales for digital games. As soon as one of the major platforms does that I will go all digital, never looking back.
So, what would you like to see?
This bold statement was made by Nintendo and features on the Polygon site.

Personly i do, considering that most of the games made today and which are gonna be made for the Next-Generation of konsoles will be like before.

Step one: its EpicBattleCry! E3 2013 has played host to exciting game news, dramatic moments, and, some would claim, out-and-out homicide. From EA dropping the AT-AT foot to Jack Tretton dropping the mic, this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo will certainly go down as one of the most memorable. With DK still on full-time looking-good-in-LA duty, Brent and Tony sat down to discuss Nintendo's showing at this year's show, the fallout (good and bad) from Sony and…

The Last Of Us is a slow game, intentionally slow, because it has a story to tell and takes the time to do it. Naughty Dog knows that if you're not making an "action" game, then you need to engage…Continue
