Summer Is Upon Us...Most Anticipated Games

Hey fellow Axeheads! It's been a looooong time since I posted a blog, but now that summer is right around the corner, I wanted to take the time and talk about my most anticipated games between the months of June and September. Here are the top 3 games I'm interested in this summer:

3. GTA V (September 17)

To close out the summer, Rockstar is bringing us my number 3 most anticipated game, GTA V. You might ask, why is this game only at the number 3 spot on the list? Well honestly, I am cautiously optimistic at Rockstar pulling this game off. To me it seems too overly ambitious in its scope and its got me worried in terms of its final execution. Rockstar has been very selective when it comes to what they have decided to show off to the public and I still don't fully understand how the mechanic of switching back and forth between characters is going to play out. With that being said, the trailers that Rockstar have put out have me intrigued.

2. Deadpool (June 25th)

Number two on my most anticipated games of the summer is Deadpool. This title comes from the folks over at High Moon Studios known for their excellent work on Transformers War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron. This game has got me excited because I think "The Merch With a Mouth" is a perfect fit for video games. His witty lines and constant breaking of the fourth wall in the trailers have been pretty damn funny. This game might not be the most visually stunning or try to reinvent the wheel in terms of combat, but it seems to be very faithful to the source material.

1. The Last of Us (June 14th)

Number one on my most anticipated games of the summer is the Playstation 3 exclusive The Last of Us. Not only is this a new IP, it comes from the great studio Naughty Dog who has a nearly impeccable record when it comes to creating high quality franchises (Crash Bandicoot, Jak & Daxter, Uncharted). I am currently on COMPLETE media blackout when it comes to this game. I have not watched any new trailers, behinds the scenes videos, or played the demo included with God of War Ascension. I have complete faith in Naughty Dog as a studio and will be picking this game up day 1.

Honorable mentions:

Animal Crossing: New Leaf (June 9)

Project X Zone (June 25)

Dragon's Crown (August 6)

Splinter Cell Blacklist (August 20)

Rayman Legends (September 3)

Killzone Mercenary (September 10)

Wonderful 101 (September 15)

So are you fellow Axeheads interested in picking up any of these games? Do you have any other games you are interested in? Will you skip any of these titles and strictly focus on cleaving the fat out of your backlog (Tony Grice voice)? Let me know in the comments below.

If I'm honest with myself, I think I'm only going to be picking up Dragon's Crown because it's a bit cheaper ($49.99) and the pre-order comes with a huge 64 page artbook, and The Last of Us.  There are so many games I am excited for, and you've pretty much nailed them all for me but there's no way I am going to be getting to even a third of them right now.  My backlog is already way too long, and I don't need that many games right now either.  I'll get to these eventually. :D

Aside from The Last of Us and GTAV I'm definitely going to use the summer to kill some of my backlog. Really want to try Wonderful 101 cause I love P* and their games but I'd need a Wii-U first lol

Games I will buy at launch: GTA 5, FF 14, Tales of Xillia, and Killzone Merc. I will probably rent the other 'big' games.

GTA V, Deadpool (Because 1 Deadpool is one of my FAVORITE marvel characters ever and 2, it's out a day after my B-day), Project X Zone, The Last of Us, Tales of Xillia, Time and Eternity, and Shin Megami Tensei IV for me. Gonna be a great summer for those who love JRPGs x)

@Amrit: I feel ya man! I gotta work on my backlog also. I'm intrigued by Dragon's Crown. If I do pick it up it'll probably be on Vita. The art book is a pretty sweet preorder bonus!

@Ry Marinara: Same here. I still haven't gotten a WiiU yet. I might pick one up in September once Rayman Legends and Wonderful 101 are out. Hopefully Nintendo confirms the new 3D Mario comes out in October and some other fall releases.

@Davis: Killzone Mercenary looks really good! Hopefully it turns out great. The Vita really needs a great FPS after the failure of COD and Resistance.

@LordX: Yeah a lot of love for fans of jrpgs. Deadpool looks hilarious, can't wait!

Hmmm... I feel it's going to be a bit of a vacant summer. GTA V is a given, of course, but the only other games I'm excited for are Duck Tales and TMNT: Out of the Shadows.

Comment by Israel Pacheco on May 19, 2013 at 12:12pm

@Tokyochuchu: Damn I completely forgot about those games. I'm personally more excited for TMNT but I'll probably check out Duck Tales also.

Nothing is really grabbing me in all honesty, I still have to go back and play Skyrim.  That's if I can get off my Demon's Souls trophy whoring.  God help me if I get Dark Souls but really I should break it up.  Looking for a good easy to play co-op game that can play through the story co-op to break my Soul's playthrough with.

@KyussRyn: It's all good man! Working on the backlog is a great way to spend the summer.  In terms of a easy coop game to play I recommend Little Big Planet 2. I'm currently playing through it with my younger brother and having a great time.

Gamer or QA tester? Early Access (long)

On the 16th of May 2007 the Halo 3 public Multiplayer Beta saw release for members of Microsoft's Xbox Live Subscription service. It contained 3 maps, a handful of game modes to play as well as a selection of the new weapons added in the sequel. Ostensibly the build was disseminated to test the matchmaking system, network loads and game balance but the use of an outdated iteration or 'Build', the heavy marketing and it's bundling with another…
