Wow, lots on the docket this week! I'm excited to hear more about your Walking Dead experiences, as well as Far Cry 3! I'll listen to the show as I play Terraria with my girlfriend.

Congrats Lorin for your big move. I moved to Taiwan 4 years ago from the USA and I've been loving it - it's fun to wake up every day and be 'on vacation' in a place you didn't grow up in! Not sure about South America, but in Taiwan there's a lot that's the same, and a lot that's different when it comes to gaming, hope to hear more about how it is for you. I'm guessing you won't have to deal with shitty Gamestop anymore, for one!

Great show and will be looking forwards to Ep.99!
(and yes Lorin, TWD is well worth full price =P Go buy it, like right now! If you haven't yet)

About the Phantom Pain; I didn't think anything about MGS when I saw it, I was just like DAMN, how would it be to wake up in that situation? No arm... being under attack... totally defenseless. That was a very effective trailer for me because it brought up some fear and emotion in me that I didn't expect when I clicked on the video.

Brent's comment about Assassins Creed and not wanting to change history made me laugh, with the greatest respect (as I love Brent) AC 3 was pretty inaccurate even without the whole Assassins - Templars feud thrown on top. It was like watching the Patriot all over again.

In some way I agree that the dlc shouldn't have gone down that route, but only because it seems fucking stupid.

Listening to Brent talk about the Walking Dead in such a way is hardly surprising to me. A large number of Axeheads (myself included) flooded the Activity feed the day Episode 5 came out with equally extravagant praise, and I still feel that way today (my personal game of the year by a pretty hefty margin). This game gets so many things right its scary. I can honestly say that Clementine is the first child character in any work of fiction I've ever legitimately cared about. Typically children tend to either be used to raise stakes (being kidnapped for instance) or as a source of conflict (see pretty much every movie ever), but seeing Clementine grow from such an innocent naive child to the courageous young woman she is by the end of the game is such an absolute pleasure to experience. Its that relationship between the player, Lee and Clementine (as well as the other fantastic characters but to a much lesser extent) that forms the backbone of the experience and why it works so incredibly well.

I think all of us have felt 'that feeling' playing this game, that feeling of equal amounts of excitement and dread to see what was around the next corner, in that next sequence, that next decision and its implications. I don't think a game has pulled that off as well as The Walking Dead has. Brent is right though, playing this game episodically properly (for lack of a better word) has every bit as impact as you would expect. The wait between episode 4 and 5 was absolute TORTURE. I know a lot of people *cough*ShaneSatterfield*cough* have complained that the game is too short to be the 'game of the year'. First off I think that's absolute horseshit, and secondly I don't know about you but I've been playing this game for 8 months now. It may be a fair criticism for a lesser game, but The Walking Dead has absolutely kept my attention in the weeks and months between Episode releases and was something I actively thought about on a regular basis. All I can say is unquestionable kudos to Telltale for getting this so so right, and I'll be there day one for season 2.

I would actually love to do a post-moderm myself on this game at some point actually, as there are so many aspects you could delve into (which I won't state here obviously for those who haven't picked this up yet). I love games that you can converse with others for hours on end, Mass Effect 2 had this effect for me (although obviously in a bit different context). I could literally spend whole afternoons just chatting away with friends about aspects of the lore, meanings behind certain design elements, the philosophy and inner-workings of the galactic civilization, plot scenarios, relationships and social implications of the different races... Games with such depth, as an interllectual person, is something I absolutely crave in games and would absolutely love more of (the only other two games in the past that I've ever done this with are Red Dead and Chrono Trigger, plus now The Walking Dead).

As for my thoughts on the VGA's I thought they were markably improved. So glad the Walking Dead was recognised (fully deserved) and the trailers that stood out for me were South Park (looks fantastic) and Bioshock Infinite (still the game I've most anticipated, I think ever honestly). Have a good one guys and as always, a great show.

@E-Role, my father was an extra in The Patriot. He and a lot of the history buffs tried their best to get the directors and higher ups to make things more realistic, but obviously it was to no avail. The only thing I remember they managed to do was refusing to stage a scene where the Elite Redcoat Grenadiers are supposed to flee in terror from the US Minute-man militia.

Personally I prefer a movie like 300 which is so far from the real event that it makes people want to read more about the real event, whereas The Patriot appears to be accurate to the common dude, but actually its just about as inaccurate as 300 or something like that.

The Axe Factor Poll!

How much does the Xbox One-Nvidia "scandal" bother YOU?
A lot. This is one step removed from the Killzone 2 pre-rendered E3 trailer0%
I don't care as long as the games look this good running on Xbox One hardware (which they probably will)0%
Not at all, people are being naive to think this practice doesn't happen all the time0%
I'll reserve judgement until we see if the games look noticeably different on Xbox One hardware0%

Today I 'ave been mostly rememberin': Metroid Games

As I am typing this, we're deep inside the annual summer gaming drought of 2013. The last interesting current gen game I played was Bioshock Infinite. I'm now waiting patiently for The Last of Us to drop through the mail slot. In the interim, I have amused myself by going back and playing a whole bunch of the old Metroid titles. And I've had an absolute blast doing so. It's been one of the most nostalgic and satisfying gaming periods of my entire life. I replayed and finished all five of the…

What is your greatest wish/expection for the new generation?

After some discussion with the axeheads I asked myself what I want out of the next generation of gaming. And my answer is suprising. |It is neither better grafics or better AI. It does not even have to do with hardware.

What I want from the next generation the most is the introduction of used game sales for digital games. As soon as one of the major platforms does that I will go all digital, never looking back.

So, what would you like to see?

Nintendo Says: If devs are worried about used game sales, they should make better games

This bold statement was made by Nintendo and features on the Polygon site.

Personly i do, considering that most of the games made today and which are gonna be made for the Next-Generation of konsoles will be like before.

EpicBattleCry - E3 2013 Special

Step one: its EpicBattleCry! E3 2013 has played host to exciting game news, dramatic moments, and, some would claim, out-and-out homicide. From EA dropping the AT-AT foot to Jack Tretton dropping the mic, this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo will certainly go down as one of the most memorable. With DK still on full-time looking-good-in-LA duty, Brent and Tony sat down to discuss Nintendo's showing at this year's show, the fallout (good and bad) from Sony and…
