What are your top 5 games of 2013 so far?

Hey Axeheads.  Well, it seems like we have reached the half way point for 2013 and in these past 6 months, we've all probably played a lot of fantastic games.  Since it is the half way point of the year, I thought an obligatory "top 5 games of 2013 so far" list had to be made.  So, without further ado, here are my top 5 games of 2013 so far.

Fire Emblem Awakening (3DS)

I love my 3DS, and Fire Emblem Awakening is definitely the best game for the system.  It's a turn-based strategy RPG and my first ever experience playing a turn-based strategy RPG game.  I never thought that the genre would appeal to me, but it turns out it could be a lot of fun.  You could partner up with certain party members on the field and the relationship between them would improve the more they fought together and the stronger they would both become. Eventually, you could even get married, have kids, and then those kids could become part of your army.  The 3D is beautiful, the gameplay is engaging, the game is gorgeous, and it's just a must play.  Can't recommend it enough for any 3DS owner.

BioShock Infinite (PC/360/PS3)

What hasn't already been said about this game?  It seemed like the entire games industry all focused on this one game when it was released on March 26th of this year.  I know there are a lot of conflicting opinions, especially now since the insane hype has died down a bit, but I really loved this game.  The shooting mechanics were a bit bland, but I'll never forget the story.  One of the best stories ever told in a video game for sure.  If you've managed to avoid all the spoilers, I first want to congratulate you because I don't know how the hell you did it.  Secondly, I would recommend that you play this game and experience it for yourself.

Gunpoint (PC)

Got to love me some indie games!  Gunpoint is simply a lot of fun.  It may have been on the short side, but trying to A+ all the missions can be pretty challenging.  It's especially hilarious when you mess up and get shot in the face while trying to escape the building by jumping out a glass window.  If you love stealth games that "rewire" some planning to execute the perfect stealth hacking, it's for you.  Not to mention that the writing is genuinely funny most of the time.  Definitely pick this one up.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch (PS3)

*sigh* Oh Ni no Kuni, you charming son of a bitch you.  One of the best JRPGs of this year exclusively on the PS3 by Level-5.  The artstyle is simply gorgeous.  It's really colourful, and just oozes of childhood wonder and imagination.  It feels like your walking through a painting.  Every destination you visit in the game is simply stunning.  The story is also fairly simple, but enjoyable nonetheless.  The main mechanic involves capturing and training "familiars," which seem really similar to Pokemon, which is AWESOME!  If you've ever wanted a truly 3D Pokemon game, this is it!  And come on, Drippy is flippin' adorable, mun!

Guacamelee (PS3/Vita)

Here's another brilliant indie title, brought to you by Drinkbox Studios.  This Mexican lucha libre inspired metroidvania wrestling beat-em-up game is superb.  Once again, the artstyle is simply gorgeous and the gameplay is so smooth and satisfying.  At first, the combat may appear very simple, but there is a lot of depth hidden away with crazy combos and juggles and recognizable wrestling moves like the suplex, for instance.  The music is also fantastic, and the game is littered with video game and pop culture references that will put a smile on your face.  If you have a PS3 or a Vita (it's a cross buy title), then I highly recommend you pick up this game.

Well, that does it for me.  So, fellow Axeheads, what are your top 5 games of 2013 thus far?  Let me know so I can get to playing them as soon as possible.

Well, I've played two of those 5 at least! Bioshock and Ni No Kuni. I need to get around to playing Guacamelee since I do have a vita. I also want to play Fire Emblem, but I don't want to buy a 3Ds just for one game, and 3D doesn't appeal to me. I don't know what my top 5 so far would be, but I do know that The Last of Us would be at the top. :)

1) The Last Of Us

2) Bioshock Infinite

3) The Last Of Us

4) Tomb Raider

5) The Last Of Us

(Yes, it's THAT good)

1) The Last of Us

2) Tomb Raider

3) Bioshock Infinite

4) Fire Emblem: Awakening

5) Dead Space 3

I don't think anything in the year will change the Top 4 at this point, and I can only see Saints Row IV or Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn taking Dead Space 3 out.

IN all honesty, I don't think I have played any 2013 games.  Shame on me.

2013 seems to be quite slow on good games so far, but I kinda enjoyed Antichamber, Rising Storm and Papers Please (Haven't played The Last of Us nor Blood Dragon yet).

Nice blog, Amrit. Only two really interesting games for me this year:

1. Bioshock Infinite - Blew mw away totally. One of the best games I ever played in my life!

2. The Last of Us - Still playing this. Great game, though. The characterizations are brilliant! Much prefer this to Uncharted.

Not too much coming in 2013. GTA V is an obvious pick up. Looking forward to Duck Tales and the new Ninja Turtles game too. Beyond Two Souls, if it comes out this year, might be worth a look.

The only 2013 games I played:

1. Bioshock Infinite

2. Borderlands 2 DLCs

3. Monaco (not really great)

From all games I first played in 2013 my #1 pick would be Dragon's Dogma. Easily. Even over games like Dishonored, Uncharted 1 + 2, Killzone 3, Alan Wake, Infamous 2 (unfinished yet) and Terraria.

Axefactor 180. We Get What We Deserve

I would love to change my username to DaySixEdition games.

Greetings fellow Axeheads.  I am once again compelled to write my thoughts in the same theme I wrote every other time in relation to the AxeFactor #180.  Our glorious Axelords Brent and Lorin again ponder as to why it is that our industry treats us like crap.  There is even a pole again for us to express what we feel about the situation.

The pole is missing the ''The industry treats us as we deserve.''   Which is what…

What We’re Watching:…

AC: Unity - The good, the bad and the ugly

The good:

- Graphics. It looks stunning and the amount of NPC's roaming through the city give the game a nice ambiance and make the city come to life like no other game has ever done before.

- Interiors. Much more inside buildings now. Fast short cuts through a house or complete missions taking place in a palace. Not every house is accessible but there is plenty of them to make it divers.

- Riddles. Less hand holding this game. Riddles and murder cases to tease the…

Hatred is not about violence & here's why

PSA: Nothing I am saying is meant to be inflammatory or antagonizing. I am simply informing you the reader on my personal take of the Hatred controversy now that it has been several weeks and we can really take a step back to examine what the issue is.

The Hatred controversy is not about Violence in video games... Hatred is not about Grand Theft Auto, Hatred is not about Halo, heck Hatred is not about Boondock Saints or even Sons of Anarchy. Hatred is about Columbine, there I…
