Youtube responds to angry gamers about the recent mass copyright ID claim bullshit. Don't expect an apology... http://ning.it/1hZGbmR

I honestly don't think a thing will change until we "change channel". Youtube (google) will only ever respond to a good old kick in the wallet.

This still doesnt explain why videos of people are getting flagged by youtube that have FULL rights to the content. The only thing to do.. move onto another video site.

Exactly Talis. It doesn't explain that at all. I just saw a tweet from the dev of VVVVV and he said the video of his own game that he posted got claimed for copyright. How the fuck does that make sense and how does youtube think that this is okay? Earlier, Jonathon Blow's own video of the Witness got claimed too. Youtube is just bending over to the huge corporations because it doesn't want to get sued and doesn't give a fuck about anyone else. Like Joe said, the only way that this will stop is if people move to a different site, but youtube is so monolithic and big right now that it just doesn't seem viable to people that garnered a huge following and a livelihood on youtube. How many people will actually move over with them?

I have had this happen to the first 3 videos that I uploaded before I knew what was happening. The claims came in so fast and weren't even from the actual owners of the copyright which pissed me off even more. I think that if I make any new video they will just have to go up on Vimeo or daily motion.

@Amrit, Those who are actually making a living out of this will find a different way to get their revenue. For them it will be either vlog without any 3rd party content and stay on Youtube or keep doing what they're doing on another site to keep pay the bills. The only other option is for them to get a regular job and i dont see that happening much. Only one big guy needs to make the first step to something that works for them and the rest will follow. AngryJoe, Totalbiscuit, FarFromSubtle or any of the others will look for other means. I can see a lot of those guys doing their own site with a subscription fee. They already have the followers. Even if only a third of their fanbase comes with them they can keep going.

@talis12

Yeah, but that's not going to happen immediately.  What you're saying about someone else stepping up and providing something better than youtube isn't something that is going to happen overnight.  It's also a huge risk moving to a new site when your whole life and in some cases, your family, is on the line.  I can see people moving if it gets bad, but not right away.

Also, regular job?  Come on, a 9-5 isn't something people should be striving for and youtube should be considered a job as much as anything else.

The Axe Factor Poll!

What do YOU think the game industry should do to address social injustice?
Nothing, everyone should make the games they want to and include whatever they like0%
Provide players a choice with regard to gender/ethnicity/sexuality0%
At every stage of the process, simply ask "Are we being exclusionary?"0%
Other (Post a comment on TAF 156)0%
Not much needs to happen beyond raising awareness, people will make better choices once they understand why its important0%
Accurate information needs to be injected so publishers understand that being inclusionary doesn't equate financial loss0%

Gamer or QA tester? Early Access (long)

On the 16th of May 2007 the Halo 3 public Multiplayer Beta saw release for members of Microsoft's Xbox Live Subscription service. It contained 3 maps, a handful of game modes to play as well as a selection of the new weapons added in the sequel. Ostensibly the build was disseminated to test the matchmaking system, network loads and game balance but the use of an outdated iteration or 'Build', the heavy marketing and it's bundling with another…
