Tried playing GTAV and Red Dead back to back. Difference is mostly the writing, but something about GTAV just feels more antiquated to me.

Yeah if gta v would have had a better story I would have liked the game a lot more.

Something about GTA5 just seems so... inconvenient on every level. Having to go back to my garage if I order any new vehicles, having those vehicles suddenly disappear at random and them being destroyed forever besides the default ones I feel forced to use. Besides just the story just playing the game for any ammount of time just makes me feel inconvenicnced when I think about how much easier it would be to do x thing in say, sleeping dogs or saints row, especially when it comes down to "Man I really wish I was on a motorbike right now but I don't want to have to dive halfway across the city or lay in wait in certain places to wait to see one."

MAYBE if it was on PC and I could just teleport around and spawn stuff as I wanted like Fallout it wouldn't be annoying me so much but for some reason I'm much happier to play Red Dead as it is without wishing for much more from it.

That and there's not a single character in GTAV that's half as interesting as Bonnie or John.

I agree with you on the vehicle issues, Rowan. The online part, however, does allow for your mechanic to bring you a car... most of the time. Seems like he is arbitrarily busy at the most inopportune times.

As for characters, Trevor was certainly the most entertaining. But I don't think we were supposed to feel the same about GTA5 characters as we did with RDR characters. The latter were created with the overall narrative in mind, and that narrative seemed like it was meant to be an emotional and compelling experience; the former was mainly just for shits and giggles.

I too went back to play some RDR recently. The very moment the landscape loaded and the music seeped in, I was immediately taken back to that emotional level of immersion.

Some of the time, and only with one kind of car at a time, for a price and with the caveat that I have to play their badly designed online mode where even passive mode doesn't stop me being chased and killed if they just get in a car and hit me or if I try to drive or if someone else just happens to bring the police nearby. The fact that even that not-great solution to the problem is only available in MP makes it worse.

I didn't find trevor all that entertaining either, as he was just an attempt to lampshade player behaviour in previous games but utilizing their own hit-and-miss, dated style of satire and consequently it all just felt far too flat and familiar for me. It's true that Red Dead took itself more seriously but that doesn't mean that I don't expect a better standard of writing when the last 4 rockstar games between GTA4 and 5 were some of my favourites of all time. GTA5 didn't even give me giggles, just sighs as it exemplified all the things I liked least about their other games, red dead at least constrained it's uninteresting/offensive stereotypes to supporting characters I could mostly ignore.

Axefactor 180. We Get What We Deserve

I would love to change my username to DaySixEdition games.

Greetings fellow Axeheads.  I am once again compelled to write my thoughts in the same theme I wrote every other time in relation to the AxeFactor #180.  Our glorious Axelords Brent and Lorin again ponder as to why it is that our industry treats us like crap.  There is even a pole again for us to express what we feel about the situation.

The pole is missing the ''The industry treats us as we deserve.''   Which is what…

What We’re Watching:…

AC: Unity - The good, the bad and the ugly

The good:

- Graphics. It looks stunning and the amount of NPC's roaming through the city give the game a nice ambiance and make the city come to life like no other game has ever done before.

- Interiors. Much more inside buildings now. Fast short cuts through a house or complete missions taking place in a palace. Not every house is accessible but there is plenty of them to make it divers.

- Riddles. Less hand holding this game. Riddles and murder cases to tease the…

Hatred is not about violence & here's why

PSA: Nothing I am saying is meant to be inflammatory or antagonizing. I am simply informing you the reader on my personal take of the Hatred controversy now that it has been several weeks and we can really take a step back to examine what the issue is.

The Hatred controversy is not about Violence in video games... Hatred is not about Grand Theft Auto, Hatred is not about Halo, heck Hatred is not about Boondock Saints or even Sons of Anarchy. Hatred is about Columbine, there I…
