Xbone touting a 2014 "Product of the Year" win http://j.mp/OGRkgS I guess TV was a bigger innovation than I thought, who knew

I think I am shocked and surprised. But not really, that was the way they were going. Gaming isn't as big as watching TV.

All while the PS4 has sold 4.2 million units...

@ Marcos 5.8 million actually, it just overtook the WiiU, which a little frightening

Haha, microsoft wishes. Smells like padded numbers to me

THis is from a survey of 45,000 people right,  I think all in America and would be your typical cross section of society.  So for the Wii buyers, quite possible that the XBox One is attractive.  Unlike the Wii though, the XBox One is being sold at a lost, so unless there is regular software sold on top then could end up being bad for MSFT.  Same for SONY as well.  More importantly is where are the gamers going.

Then again maybe I am just full of it and have no idea. Actually I think the later is true.

The size of the sample doesn't matter nearly as much as your selection criteria, which is simply just parade magazine readership.

On the issue of number though, microsoft has only talked about shipped to retail numbers in an attempt to pad it up, an even THOSE numbers are over a million behind PS4's sold to consumers numbers.

How can you have a 2014 product of the year 2 months in :/
Comment by KyussRyn on February 28, 2014 at 1:11am

I guess you gotta take your wins where you can find them Aussie.  But with out re-reading the Article, it could be anticipated or the product you are most wanting to buy in 2014.

What should be concerning is that the console has been suffering by crippling inconsistency where Kinect is concerned and that it's missing functionality that was advertised close to a year ago still. But again it's a weak award from Parade magazine it's like getting your gaming news from the Wall Street Journal.

Leigh Alexander Gets Fisked

So Leigh Alexander at Gamasutra, Luke Plunkett at Kotaku and Dan Golding (who has written for many places), have written articles on the same day, on the same subject. That's an interesting coincidence. It is also interesting that Chris Plante over at Polygon also had a very similar article, covering the same issues, on the same day though it was written more as a summary of the past week. Now there are time zones to consider but these were all published within 24…
