Well, Lightning Returns was an excellent game that suffered from one major flaw that plagues many others, and that's length. I liked it but it was just way too long. I don't enjoy playing for 33 hours, sorry. The final boss also dragged on too long and had no checkpoints. I'll admit that I got to it's final form, lost, and decided I'd rather watch the ending on YouTube than go find better gear and finish the game an hour later. I hold by my assertion that easy mode should require no adaptation to design or learning of mechanics, much less grinding. On normal, that's fine, but when playing a game on easy for the story, it's a lot like getting to the climax and being required to rewind and watch the previous half hour. That's fine when I can't get enough of the game, but in this case I found it too much to tolerate.
That being said, 28 out of the 33 hours were a blast and I'm gonna stick to my guns and say I really enjoyed the ride that the FFXIII series took me on.

I just had a similar experience with Dragon Age Origins. Was ready for that game to end a couple hours earlier. I was playing on easy to burn through fights and got really weird enemies at the end. Swarms of dudes that die to one hit and couple guys that take an several minutes of smacking to kill. Finally get to end boss, die, die, die for no discernable reason, uninstall, search Web for endings, find out ending sucks because I didn't do stuff with characters I found tedious.

I played the demo and I was really impressed by the combat but I suspected the full game would end up being more along the lines of XIII so I decided to pass. Also, I think they really dropped the ball this one. I was hoping that the story would make more sense than the original but after playing the demo I realized it wouldn't.

Congratz anyway, man. I might play it if it ever drops in price.

Leigh Alexander Gets Fisked

So Leigh Alexander at Gamasutra, Luke Plunkett at Kotaku and Dan Golding (who has written for many places), have written articles on the same day, on the same subject. That's an interesting coincidence. It is also interesting that Chris Plante over at Polygon also had a very similar article, covering the same issues, on the same day though it was written more as a summary of the past week. Now there are time zones to consider but these were all published within 24…
